How to activate web cam on Satellite C660-C660D?

I cant get my webcam built in to work on Satellite C660D/C660. Do I need to switch it on or download a driver?
Help

Hiya
is the operating system the factory installed system eg:- the system that was installed when you bought it
or when it was purchased from new ??
if so hopefully you could press the start key then all programmes and search for toshiba and click on them and you may find the webcam
also if it is the factory os then you should be able to go to:-
start programes or all programes toshiba/toshiba recovery/software
and re install the webcam if it is not working
this link i believe will take you to a site to download the user guide if this is not in your programes
http://www.pdfuu.com/toshiba-satellite-c660-manual-users-guide-and-troubleshooting.html
or go to :- www.toshibasupport.co.uk
then use the dropdown boxes to find your model no and then find your os and then the webcam driver
you could always use skype to take photos with your webcam or download a free app ( desktop webcam )
i hope you can get it sorted

  • Satellite C660/C660D - Desktop background image not loading

Satellite C660/C660D: Trying to load any image from whatever source fails, with the error message 'an internal error has occurred'. I have tried all the procedures in control panel; none allow a change of background image, although colours can still be altered, as well as themes.
Microsoft advises this is a manufacturer issue, as my OS is OEM.
Can anyone help identify this error and suggest how to fix it?

    >Microsoft advises this is a manufacturer issue, as my OS is OEM.
This is a typical MS answer if the Windows system has not been purchased separately LOL and this is NOT a notebook problem.
Would recommend checking this MS knowledge base article:

  • How do I activate web cam for Skype ?

I have just received this as a gift but cannot operate web cam when trying to answer Skype calls, is this possible ? Thanks in advance !

Whilst I appreciate your responding - I do not think this helps with what I was enquiring (at least not without further explanations anyways).
I am aware of, and do use, the function - System Preferences > Keyboard > Text - for various replacements like (tm), (c), etc .... and also for fractions like 1/2, 1/4, 1/3.
However, my question was in relation to SUPERSCRIPTS for dates / numbers - namely, superscripting numerical suffixes for things like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th,
So - please help - HOW do I set this up ? If indeed it is possible without System Preferences > Keyboard > Text ???

You are absolutely correct - iSights are expensive (here in the UK they are about £100) Using a camcorder is a good solution for occassional use except that they have the annoying habit of powering down at unexpected times when they are not actually recording. On the plus side they tend to have better lenses than even the iSight so work better in low light level indoors. There are also reports of regular use damaging the recording heads through spinning on a tape that is not moving. Not all camcorders now have firewire - a large number seem to only have USB.
There are some USB webcams that claim to work with Macs - not many - my understanding though is that they don't work with iChat only with Yahoo. This might also be the case with the drivers available at the site in my previous post.
At the end of the day individuals have to decide how much use they will make of a webcam and on which system then look at what is available or what they already have. The important thing is to do some homework before spending any money and check that new hardware will work with a mac and for what purposes.
While I agree that the iSight is seriously overpriced it is the best solution if starting from scratch as they are well designed, work flawlessly with a Mac and there are quite a few other applications that can use it too - iStopMotion, Delicious Library etc.
Me - in this case I'd keep checking out the drivers before spending anymore money.

I couldn't , after the update, make the camera work. I've been helped by a friend to execute the download of the aplicative directly in the Toshiba website, but i can't do it.

I just bought the Sattellite L505-Es5015 system unit a couple of weeks ago.  Being overseas, it has taken me a couple of weeks to set-up and install everything on the computer.  Up until I installed the bios upgrade from Toshiba, the webcam worked fine.  Now, it will only broadcast a picture of a tree.  Not sure what that is from, but what gives?  I got this update notification through the built-in toshiba bulletin board, and now I can't revert to the older bios.  I have windows 7 x64.  I need a solution.
The image you see of the tree is probably due to the "screen cover" being activated. It is set in the Start --> All Programs --> Toshiba -->Toshiba  Camera Application --> Effects --> Screen Cover tab. Ensure the Screen Cover option is set to Off (via the radio button).
The web cam launch program on my L505 series laptop is located under the Start --> All Programs --> Toshiba --> Web Camera Application. If the program doesn't run properly try downloading the latest version for your laptop on the Toshiba download site. Note: on my L505 this application also was initially installed on the left side of the menu (thin gray bar) and would hide itself until I moused over it with the mouse cursor.

    (1) Software operates your iSight.
You can check out this list of apps to see which ones offers the functions that interest you:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013310
For a webcam view you can access while you away, consider EvoCam, Security Spy, and the other apps in the "Webcam Apps" and "iSight as a surveillance or Nanny cam " sections of the page.
In addition to checking the functions each app offers, check to be certain the app is compatible with the hardware and OS you plan to use.
These apps offer different cost, capability, and ease of installation and operation. Select the app that best meets the combination of criteria that are important to you.
    (2) You can use the suggestions in this page to test whether you iSight is still working after you blow the dust off of it:

  • How to disable Web Camera pop out menu on my Satellite?

I have a Satellite laptop which has an annoying pop out menu on the left side of the screen. The one with four icons marked, Photo/Video, Settings, Effect, and Face Recognition.
Is there any way to disable it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
In most cases the camera software starts automatically while booting up the windows OS. To prevent this you can disable the webcam software in Startup of msconfig.
Type msconfig in search and choose Startup tab.
Here you have to remove the check from webcam software entry.
Save this, reboot and now webcam software should not start automatically.
But xavers advice should work too.

  • How to activate Intel Speedstep on Satellite L300-1BD?

    Hi,
today i bought the Toshiba L300 - 1BD Vista is preinstalled.
To enhance my batterylife, i changed vista to "classical design" and the energy option to "power save".
Although it doesn't use Intel Speedstep technology.
When I run the utility: CPU-Z, it shows that the CPU Speed is on 2000 Mhz. Normally, when the CPU is idle, it should change the multiplier to low, which shout result in about 1000mhz. This saves much battery!
Does anybody know, why it is not working, or how to get it working?
    Thanx and Greetz from Germany!

Are you sure the CPU supports the Intel Speed Step technology?
I googled a little bit and it seems that this unit was equipped with the Celeron-575 (Merom-2.00GHz) 667MHZ CPU
And Im 100% sure that this CPU *DOESNT* support Speed Step.

  • How to display web camera in jsp

i am used jsp and servelets,
i want to show webcamera in jsp which is connected at client side
    plz help me

Cannot be done in JSP/Servlet as it runs entirely at the server side.
Create a client side Java application for that and finally embed it in your JSP/HTML as an applet or webstart (JNLP) application.

  • Video Streaming on Web Browser from Web Camera

How to run Web Camera on to the Web Browser through JAVA and JMF?

How to run Web Camera on to the Web Browser
through JAVA and JMF? As someone who has written dozens of applets, and
helped debug hundreds of them, I can tell you that
    applets are not for beginners.
Whenever I must have an applet that is any more
than completely trivial, I will code it as a combined
application/applet, if only for making testing faster
    and easier.
Further, if you have a working application, it can be
'launched from a link', just like an applet, but using
    web start.
I suggest you put aside the applet idea for the
moment, and concentrate on doing this in an
    application.
When that is working, you can decide whether
to launch it using web start, or embed it as an
    applet in a web page.
Here is an example of launching JMF (the
    player) using web start.
    http://www.javasaver.com/testjs/jmf/#test5
As far as coding for a web cam, a quick Google leads to..
"Here is the source code to JMF Webcam app + saves jpeg"
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=247253
    2 notes:
    1) I found that URL for the web cam code using
Google. I have never dealt with web cams myself.
    2) Normally I ignore threads with no dukes. I am
usually pretty busy, and dukes indicate how
important a thread is - to whoever is asking.
So, if you want to complete this task faster, you might
    - search for answers first.
    - add dukes to any question, to indicate interest.

  • Cannot load Windows 7 - Satellite C660 keeps freezing

    Hi Everyone.
This is a biggy. I have a Toshiba AMD Vision Satellite C660 / C660D laptop with no Windows installation disc. Last week it became very sluggish, then the interface resembled that of the safe mode interface and it finally became completely unresponsive, therefore, via F8 on start- up I selected the option which allowed for it to revert to factory settings (I no longer have this option)
The DOS screen appeared and started loading as normal then that become unresponsive so I restarted only to see Windows start up for the first time and carry on loading, prior to this I had to create a boot cd from my other laptop to reboot the system as I had lost the boot mngr.
The last part of the installation process began whereby a white Toshiba screen is displayed with a green progress bar that loads certain drivers (see attachment). There are 39 steps to this process and I seem to remember from before that the computer should keep restarting itself, but it keeps freezing after about two steps. I kept switching it off and eventually the system administrator locked my accounts.
Once again I restarted the PC but this time in safe mode The operating system did indeed load in safe mode and I created some new accounts with administrator privileges, however, I am still unable to load the whole operating system as it keeps freezing during the last part of the process.
I have very limited knowledge of loading operating systems so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
First of all it was a big mistake NOT to create an Toshiba recovery disk.
The HDD recovery which you were able to start by pressing F8, is only possible if the HDD is not faulty.
I think in your case I think there is something wrong with the HDD because there was an boot mgr notification which means that notebook cannot find an boot manager in order to boot up the system.
I have no other idea as to try to reinstall the system using the Toshiba recover disk or another Windows 7 disk (of course if you own one)
If the recovery would fail, you have to investigate what hardware part might be affected. I think in such case its needed to start with HDD check.
Possibly the HDD needs to be replaced. Of course it possible that Im wrong an other part is affected but at first stage you need to check new OS installation.
A recovery disk can be ordered here:
