‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • I entered the incorrect password for my home wifi network and now I can't change it. How do I clear out the wrong password so that I can enter a correct one?

I entered the incorrect password for my home wifi network, and now I can't change it. How do I clear out the wrong password so that I can enter a correct one?

Settings > wi-fi  then tap on the little blue arrow next to the network you want to change. You have to tap on the blue arrow and not on the name.
Now at the top tap on "forget this network".
After that, the iPhone will think your home network is a new network and will ask you for the password to connect.

  • Why does Ipad lock after failing your RESTRICTION code

Why Does the ipad lock after failing your RESTRICTIONS passcode I mean what could possibly changing restrictions have to do with people doing stuff bad on you ipad why make it lock you from your ipad tell me why apple WHY

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
As far as I know Apple haven't said. What's your definition of 'bad stuff' ? Being able to disable restrictions can potentially unhide the App Store and/or iTunes store apps, and allow in-app purchases to be made - therefore allowing purchases to be made on your account.

Agree with Andy. I'm afraid we can't configure it to send SMS to user automatically when users enter a wrong password in OWA.

  • Enable OTP after Wrong Password while Reset Password.

    HI Everyone,
If user enters wrong password while trying to Reset Password through SSPR then OTP should be enabled.
    Help!!...
    Thanks~ Giriraj Singh Bhamu

I'm not sure what are you asking about - if he tries to reset
password, there is no need to enter (wrong) password as there are only two fields for entering new one.
You need a notification when password is changed? Add an Action workflow to suitable MPR.

  • HT204053 HOW TO ACTIVATE ICLOUD LOCK WITH CHANGED PASSWORD AFTER RECOVERY

i have lost my iphone5 9 moths ago. recently i find my ihone5 but it is stucked in icloud lock mood. now a days i use that same icloud account for another iphone4s and i have changed the icloud password. i have changed the icloud password 2 month ago. i have also lost access in my hotmail account. in this case can i activate my iphone5 with current password or i have to get access to my email adddress. or what can i do now?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • Bug : How to unlock iPad locked by IOS?

    Hello,
I locked iPad with password to protect it from my kids. I don't want to allow them play with iPad without my permission. I know the password.
IOS had locked iPad after some incorrect attempts to unlock it. My kids did it. So, what is the correct way to use this feature ?
    1. Perform backup after each use of iPad with help of iTunes. So, this way allow to restore iPad after next accident.
    2. Fix this BUG in IOS.
What do you think about it?
    Best regards, Roman.

It's not a bug - the iPad is designed as a one-user device.
One way around this would be to disable the passcode before handing it over to the child and re-enable it after they're finished.

  • IPad locked after trying to upgrade to IOs 8

Have iPad 2 and tried to update OS fro 6.x to 8.x through iTunes.  Downloaded fine and began to install.  Asked for passcode for iPad which I put in.  Grey screen came up with Apple icon and progress bar.  Progress went to about 95% and a box came up saying iTunes could not connect to iPad because needed passcode.  Only options were more info, cancel or try again.  There was no place to put in a pass code again.  Tried "try again" but nothing happened.  Now, the same screen is up with apple icon and progress bar at 95% but I can't do anything.  Tried shutting off iPad but even after holding on/off button for 5 minutes, nothing other then the grey screen with progress bar.  Looked up this issue and all "fixes" begin with shutting down the iPad, which I cannot do.  Need help ASAP as battery on iPad will drain.  As of now, iPad unusable.  Thanks.

Update to above:  was able to finally shut iPad off by pressing both the home button and the on/off button together.  When I then push the on/off button for a few seconds, the black screen with the Apple icon comes up followed by a blank screen with "slide to upgrade" at the bottom of the screen.  When I "slide" that, the next screen is number pad to put in the password.  When I do that, the grey screen with the Apple icon and the progress bar comes up and the progress bar moves to about 95% whether the iPad is connected to my iTunes or not.  If connected to my iTunes, I get the same box saying "iTunes could not connect to the iPad “D’s iPad” because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes." It gives three options again:  More Info, Cancel, Try again.  If I hit try again, the box disappears and comes up again.  Is there any way to remove the passcode at this time.  After this problem, I tried upgrading my wife's iPad, but turned off the passcode first.  Everything went fine.  Seems the passcode is the issue or???. Anyone have any helpful ideas??  Thanks

  • How to unlock ipad when forgot the password

my ipad is locked by my toddler while palying.  I tried many times and unable to unlock it with a correct password.
I also tried to 'back up' and followed by 'restore' but unsuccessful. Anybody can advise me?

    You must restore the iPad.
The Passcode Lock is not included with the iPad's backup, but the Restrictions Passcode is.
