Hi,
I want to add my Mac Mini machine to a windows domain. Is it possible to add it? I have tried but it is not working. It asks for Client ID While joining to a windows domain. I have given MAC address, IP address and hostname of Windows server but it is not working. Please do help me out to sort out the issue.

Why should we create a user again? The point is I am going to join this Mac Mini to a windows domain controller. Windows domain controller means a centralized database of an organization. It is communicating with my Domain controller. But the issue is it is not founding my domain node while joining to a domain. Please find the attached screen shots for your reference. If you have worked on this please send me step by step configuration.

not sure what you are trying to achieve...
However you should not be referring to Luns via their logical device i.e. c0t0d0, but using the unique did device or the /global device. refer to scdidam -L which will list all the did devices across all nodes and map them to the logical device path.

Rather than a 100% identical clone to 40 Macs, I suspect you want the same basic image to be loaded on to those 40 Macs but will require some individualisation so that for example each has a unique computer name.
NetRestore and System Imaging Utility can do this but a lot of people including myself prefer to use DeployStudio which has more capabilities. See http://www.deploystudio.com
DeployStudio can be used to like NetRestore to restore an image to multiple Macs at the same time which is like multiple people downloading at the same time, but it can unlike the standard NetRestore also be configured to use multicast traffic which is more like a TV broadcast whereby multiple people receive the same transmission at the same time. This can be more efficient for imaging larger numbers of computers at the same time. For example 1Gbps shared between 40 computers is only 25.6Mbps each, but if you multicast a single transmission of 100Mbps to 40 computers then all 40 can listen to it at the same time and still be receiving 100Mbps even on the same network connection.

I think that you may have found yourself in a little bit of a pickle regarding technical hardware terms, so I'll try and clear things up for you.
The Mac Mini comes as standard with 512MB of RAM (Read Only Memory). RAM is a little stick that is built into the computer that supplies the software with all the virtual memory that it needs to accomplish tasks. The more RAM that you have in your computer, the faster software will run, and the more things you can have going on at the same time. You never actualy use RAM for personal files and folders. The Mac Mini will accept a total of 2GB of RAM, which comes as an optional upgrade from Apple, however, 1GB is more than adequate.
All of your files and folders are kept on your hard drive, like that in your 30GB iPod. Everything that you use on your computer, whether it be Word Processing software, or Games for example, are stored on the hard drive. The Mac Mini can come with either a 60GB, or 80GB Hard Drive depending on which model you decide to buy. That's plenty more space than you have on your actual iPod and you will most probably never seem to run out of room!

You have to explicitly share directories on external/secondary volumes.
Use the Server admin app to configure file sharing, and select which directory/directories on the second drive you want to share, then they'll be available to clients.

The questions I have before committing to buy:
1) Can I hook up the mini with the TV without distorting the picture? I don't want to have a separate monitor, and my main usage occasion would be viewing photos, videos, therefore no distortion is a must. I'm fine with having black stripes on the side of the picture, just don't want stretched image. The max resolution of the TV is 1366*768.
2) If the hookup is possible, what converter do I need to buy? I already have a HDMI-DVI converter (used it with my previous PC), is it ok to hook it up with the Mac Mini's Mini DV to DVI cable? Or should I buy a mini-DV HDMI adapter?

I use the included mini-DVI to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI cable and my picture is great on my 24" LG LCD HDTV. The mini should be able to provide that resolution without issue as long as it can read the resolution output from the TV accurately. Apple suggests that you connect the cables in what some think of as reverse. Start with the TV and work back to the Mac mini so that the mini gets a good read on the resolution requirements of the TV.

Mac Mini Upgrade on the horizon?

I am considering the purchase of a Mac-Mini to use as an HTPC device, but I wanted to know if anyone knew how long the current'top-of-the-line' Mac-Mini has been available to the public, and/or if anyone has gotten wind up an upgraded model that may be released sometime soon?
I know it's not possible to keep pace with the latest/greatest hardware that's available, and I am also aware of Apple's secrecy regarding any new hardware releases...but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, as perhaps someone might be able to +(for example)+ tell me that it's been six months since the initial release of the current 'top-of-the-line' Mac-Mini, and in the past Apple has released new Mac-Mini models every 6-8 months or so...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

It really isn't possible to give you an credible idea of when (or if) apple will update or replace the current minis. Policy is not to reveal such plans in advance, and thus anyone who does know will be under a non-disclosure agreement and be unable to repeat what they know.
It's also against the terms of use here to discuss such things, but one can make a reasoned assumption that since the current chipset in the mini is being phased out my Intel, the mini will have to be replaced or updated at some point to accommodate the newer CPU - this was what happened with the iMac recently, along with relatively small speed bumps. The mini, however, as the entry level system really serves a different sort of market, so Apple have not so far seen the need to update it regularly, nor with particularly significant improvements.
As such, I wouldn't be inclined to expect anything major in terms of what will happen to the mini. The last update was around August last year, so one might argue that Apple are due to release another. Typically though that hasn't been the way the mini has gone so far. It is reasonable to think it will be updated or replaced at some point, but the only reliable way to approach this is to work on the basis of what is available now. For media center use, the original mini, G4 processor and all, was quite sufficient for many, so it's not as if this sort of use has particularly heavy hardware demands. There are some thiongs one might expect in a media center device (Blu-Ray player for example) that it can be certain will not be in the next generation of mini (such would appear in other models higher up the range first, and there's no sign of them yet), but short of that, the mini is pretty credible as it is.
Another thing to consider is that with the AppleTV device on the market, Apple are not likely to push the mini toward media center use, thus whatever they plan seems likely to be aimed at more traditional computing in order not to seriously cannibalize AppleTV sales.
My advice would be that if you don't need to buy a system at this point, or find the current models insufficient, then wait. That way you get to see what may (or may not be) on the horizon before making a purchase. If you need something now, then unless you have distinct needs outside the mainstream, a current mini is likely to be very effective. Certainly a minor speed bump and slightly faster processor isn't likely to help much, even if that's what Apple deliver.

Depending on which European country (should their mains access plug/port shape vary) the
cord set with correct ends on it has to match. You can buy a cord that plugs into the Mini
where the factory cord goes, and the other end has one for the wall source shape. The wire
for the application should be able to support 110~240VAC.
With the cord or an accurate image in hand, you could either get a new cable to match both
realities (mini + wall supply mains local) or an adapter (US/Standard to EU/Local) for just
the head or input part of the original Apple cable. One plugs into the other, then into wall.
If you have a new Mini with a small modular plug/port on the computer end of the power wire,
it would have only two holes and no ground; the other end would have two prongs of equal
shape and size. Not a polarized plug and not a grounded three-prong. To get a replacement
power wire for the MINI to go from power source to the Mini is recommended, if you are going
to be staying in one location for awhile. A Travel Kit that offers no electrical conversion but only
the physical shape adapter kit, should a available in travel stores, airports; big box discount
stores, computer and electronic stores. This page shows the cord end of the appliance shapes.
The other end would be the mains shape for whichever country you are going to....

So to match the country or regional power mains type is a primary concern for obtaining the
correct replacement cord to supply the Mini with local mains power. The end which plugs into
the Mini is of a certain type (numbers for EU and elsewhere are published, see link + images)
& the end that gets plugged into the mains or utility side, needs to match the local specification.
The link to Apple, to contact for Support and Service information in prior post, should be able
to help find a source for the local replacement type cord they'd sell local people with a Mini.
Apple local sources offer replacements for this purpose; and for travelers, a second cord for
a direct use (not adapter plugs) is a better bet. For those who only need a cord in two places.
If you are traveling to Denmark, UK, Swiss or other EU countries require different adapters.
Even places where the power itself may be somewhat similar. However your MINI has an
automatic power supply that will conform to that energy standard, you only need to supply a
correct non-transforming adapter. Simply a connection to adapt one shape to another.
The general purpose travel kit that is not specialized to Apple power adapters, would have a
plastic plug/adapter with the local pins on one side, and the US/standard two slots on the other.
So, no circuitry nor any other change of electrical power inside this device would be required.

In other words, I believe my other post already covered this. On the ground on either end of the
path, adapters are common and the Mini does not use proprietary electrical components IF you
have one of the more recent shape aluminum models with the power supply built in. The older
Mini has the power brick and two wires. A US/Standard plug adapter to EU/Local would work in
either case, since all you'd do is plug the adapter plug into the local mains and the US plug into
that one... I see these kinds of discards for as little as 25¢ in thrift stores in Alaska. Or you can
buy a new one. Or you could get a complete cord with correct ends on it, for Mini + local mains.
Hopefully this helps somewhat. The only info missing is which EU country or region is involved.
Their shapes of plug are different, so the adapter end for local supply has to match their standard.
Swiss, Denmark, UK, and others offer different shapes and so on.
The Apple store in the location you are traveling should be able to supply you with a replacement
cable for a modern MINI, that has the correct local mains end, and the correct Apple mini end on
the opposite. Since the unit is automatically switching, the magic is done.

other Apple related vendors in my earlier reply: https://locate.apple.com/country you could contact
any of them along your route in the City in whichever EU country, to find a local MINI power cable.

How can I see my USB device in the measurement&automation explorer?

I'm trying to use an USB-device with LabView7.0.
I followed the manual "using NI-VISA3.0 to control your USB device" which I found on the NI-webpage.
I generated an .inf file using the VISA driver developement wizard and installed it in the INV folder of my system (I'm using Win2000).
The following problems occured: after I connect my USB device the "add new hardware wizard" pops up and aks for a driver for the new hardware. when I direct it to the folder with the generated .inf file it doesn't accept this file as a driver.
second: the USB device doesn't appear in the measurement&automation explorer. I assume that as long as my device doen't appear there it is not recognized by NI-VISA and the comm
unication from LV wouldn't work?
How can a make my USB device visible in the meas.&aut. explorer?

In the VISA Driver Development Wizard, you are required to specify the Vendor and Product ID. These numbers are what Windows will use to determine whether a specific driver is appropriate for a given device. If these numbers do not match between your device and the Windows driver (INF file) that you generate, you will see the behavior that you describe. Check to make sure that you are using the appropriate values. Also, did you right click on the INF file and install it as directed in step 2.2.2?
Page 5-87 of the VISA Programmer's reference manual specifies how to do a viOpen to a USB device in RAW mode, but you still need the same sorts of Product ID and Mfg ID that you needed for the INF file generation. Furthermore, if you are communicating with
your instrument directly, you will need to know exactly what command set it expects, so make sure you get that from the manufacturer as well. Finally, I want to mention that if this device complies with the USBTMC standard, then none of this is necessary--the steps above are for setting up a RAW USB connection. You are going to have to buy an external modem. They make ones that plug into the USB. Apple does not make one so you will have to buy a 3rd party modem. I would read the reviews before making the purchase to make sure you buy one that someone has tested with a mac.
