How to add a record in document library without upload file.

Hi,
how to add a record in document library without upload file?
Is it possible? I want to create a folders in Document Library but inside folders i do not want to upload a file instead of just i want to create a record. I will map my local file path to the records.
Can anyone help me on it?

Hello Sankaran,
document library is to upload documents, without document you will not be able to add a record or Item to it.
for your requirement you can use a list and enable folders within the list and maintain the local path of the file as an item in list.

    I do not think there is an out of the box way to do this.
    The immediate solution that comes to mind is using a workflow, that runs everytime  a document is uploaded/item created, which may be too much for your scenario.

    Hi,
    your requirement doesn't work out-of-the-box as all data uploaded to SharePoint needs to be stored in SQL database. Thus in your case 3 TB of fileshare would need to move to SQL.
    In case you don't want to go this way, there are 3rd party vendors who offer Software like AvePoint Connector. Products like these use SQL RBS (Storage Externalization API) so that files remain in your file system but metadata is kept in SharePoint. If you

    Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.

    I accidentally deleted a document library webpart with folders and files in it. Can someone help how to recover it? What do you think happens to the files? I checked the recycle bin, there is no any deleted file related to the missing files. When I checked

    Follow these steps:
    1) open page: https://your_pormal/Lists/YOUR_LIST_NAME/AllItems.aspx
    2) open page in edit mode -> add webpart -> find your list in available webparts -> add
    3) click on the ribbon Stop Editing (Page tab)
    4) Now you try open library from Site Content. 
    But your webpart will looks not like a when a library was created:
    Now follow these steps:
    1) Open library settings
    2) click Create View
    3) Select Standard View (don't select All Items from view templates)
    4) Name it (for example MyAllItems)
    4) Check: Make this the default view
    5) Check: Title (linked to item with edit menu)
    6) Click Save button
    7) Now you have new View (with new address)
    8) Open page https://your_pormal/Lists/YOUR_LIST_NAME/AllItems.aspx
    9) Open it in edit mode
    10) Open list webpart in edit mode
    11) Set Selected View to MyAllItems
    12) Toolbar Type to Full Toolbar
    13) Click OK (after this step it may still showed in "wrong" style)
    14) Click on the Page tap - Stop Editing
    15) Check result ;)

    In the inforecord trasnaction code ME11,go to  info record text and double click on  'Info record note' -
    Now system will open word document & put whatever text you needed(more) & save.

I'm thinking of creating the document in 10-page segments, then combining them before sending to our local printer. Is there any way to avoid the underlying text page layout that seems to rule the roost?

    first the last: there is no way in Pages to link images. All objects and media you insert into a document is stored into the package folder. But you can reduce the file size if you are able to handle an image editor. I think you have inserted your images directly from iPhoto, right? This means the images are in full resolution and size. But for 99 % of all images this is far more then needed.
    Here is a post I wrote yesterday that will help you to reduce the size of your Pages document: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2711166&#2711166. If you need more details for image editing, feel free to ask.
    To give you an example of document sizes: I am writing manuals and handbooks with 350+ pages and 300+ images (most for tutorials). Most of this images are screenshots and so they are only 72 dpi in resolution. But there are a few photos as well (the biggest is 10.5 mb in TIFF format (19.5 x 12.5 cm, 300 dpi) and I have reduced it to 4.3 mb in PNG format (19.5 x 12.5 cm, 300 dpi)). This documents have file sizes between 3 mb and 25 mb.
    The only big problem is the use of CMYK images, because PNG can't handle this color format. So you have to use JPEG with good quality setting. To give you an example: the same image I mentioned above is 13.5 mb in size as a CMYK image. As a JPEG with 100 % quality and baseline optimisation you get a file size of 4.2 mb, but JPEGs compression is not lossless. In some special motifs you will get block artifacts. So you can choose the file type you want to use.

    I need to give access to a document library but the users who need permission are unknown until the form
    is submitted to the document library.  The 2 users information are in 2 fields of the form.  I created a infopath form and a workflow with it.
    I need to give the "CreatedBy" user, the person who completed and submitted the form, and the
    Requester (a data field on the form), both need access to the new document library or just to the forms they submitted.  How do I setup access for the createor and requester of the form?  These are unknown until the time of the form submission and
    it's dynamic.
    Anyway to implement this in SP?  If not what about coding for when the form is loaded.  Can
    someone point me to a sample coding for ref fields in the form when form is first loaded up?  Also, how to redirect to a access denied view in the code.
