How to add additional hard drive?
How do I add an additional hard drive to my MACMINI? I would like to put a 2nd drive in the MACMINI, or perhaps add additional space to the drive inside? Is there a way to hack the old drive inside to make it bigger?
Thanks!
Capitan
You can not add a second internal drive due to physical space constraints but the mini's hard disk is replaceable. The type of drive you will require is dependent on your type of mini, G4 or Intel. Both require laptop drives but the G4 has the common PATA while the Intel uses a SATA drive.
The easiest solution is an external Firewire drive. There are some very nice ones available which are designed to sit beneath the mini and are finished in a similar style. Most also have built in Firewire and USB hubs to add additional ports to the system. My local Apple store actually has one attached to the display model. You can even put your operating system on an external drive and boot from that if you wish. It has been suggested in this forum that a 7200 rpm drive over Firewire can give perceivable speed improvement on a G4 (due to the internal 5400 rpm drive), but I have no experience with doing so.
Hope that helps,
Jason.

New DV7T-How to add extra hard drive? (Resolved)
Hello:
I figured this out. The hard drive cover was very hard to unlock and I didn't want to break it so I thought it was more complicated than it really is. The laptop is very well made and engineered.
Thanks!si1960mon wrote:

Hi,
Specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01077654&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
There are only 2 SATA slots. One is for the hard drive and the other for an optical drive (DVD/CD-ROM..). There are also 2 PATA/IDE slots for PATA devices. There is also a PCIe x1 slot so you can use this slot to get this: http://www.span.com/product/SATA-3Gb-SATA2-PCIE1x21-PCI-Express-x1-Card-1x-SATA,-1x-5x-eSATA-support...
which is a PCIe x1 SATA card which gives you another SATA slot for a SATA device if the slot is still empty.
BTW: This section is for laptops.

How to add external hard drive to airport express
Hello, I am fairly new to all of this. I have an Airport express and have a 1TB external HD I want to attach to Airport Express to use wirelessly. I am having trouble figuring out how to access
Unfortunately, the AirPort Express will only support a USB printer.
The Express will not support a hard drive at the USB port. -
Can I add additional hard drive?
I have a Macbook Pro early 2008 and it still runs really well, I added more RAM last year and have been thinking about adding some more space to the hard drive. Would anyone reccomend this and if so, where would be the best place to buy the hard drive?
Thank you in advanceThe early 2008 model has a flaw in the GPU. Read this.

So you might want to rethink any upgrades to that system and put the money you would spend on them on getting a new or newer model. -
How to add and configure an additional hard drive.
I will like to know how to install and configure an additional hard drive. I will like to know how to configure the server so the services will start using this additional space. Intel based Xserver. late 2009.
Erik.Your question is a little vague... "services will start using this additional space..."?
Let's see, where to start.
You don't say how many drives you currently have in your server. If all three drive bays are used then you'll probably need some kind of external array. There are many to choose from.
If you have a spare bay (or two) then you can buy a new drive bay (ADM - Apple Drive Module) (several online vendors still sell them), but you can't just put a bare drive into an empty bay since the blank trays lack the electrical connectors to support a drive.
Once you work out your drive options (internal vs. external, capacity, etc.) you can work out a plan to use them.
The specifics of that will depend on what services you're using. Are you web serving? file serving? home directory serving? or maybe mail? database? something else.
In general, once a drive is attached and initialized (via Disk Utility.app) it's up to you to configure the individual server components to use the space. That typically involves changing some kind of configuration parameter (e.g. httpd.conf for apache, /etc/my.cnf for MySQL, or various options in Server.app for other services) to tell them to use the new volume.
If you want to migrate the entire server to the new drive (e.g. the new drive is larger/faster) then you can clone your existing OS drive to the new drive and just reboot.
So, you see, there are many ways to do this. Everyone's situation will be a little different. -
How can I restrict access to add. internal hard drive by account?
Hello! Okay, so I am my computer's administrator, and I have a secondary 'guest' account that anyone else can use. So, I know that all my data on my main, OS hard drive is secure from the guest account accessing it, but what about the additional hard drive that I have installed?
I have a good deal of sensitive data and files stored (and aliased) on my second internal drive that I do not care for 'guest' users to stumble upon. How can I restrict access to the secondary storage hard drive from my Guest login account, and/or just plain hide it from it? Surely, there is a need for this that has brought about a solution. Any tips/advice/solutions?
Thanks!!!

HT201250 how do i add external hard drive to my time machine back up
how do i add external hard drive to my time machine back up so that I may view the files independently on apple tv please?
To elaborate on above. I am looking to add about 300gig of photos on an external hard drive to TC.
Once I do this I believe I can then have itunes source its photos from TC without having them stored directly on my iMac?
Then I am assuming once I keep itunes on with home sharing I can stream these photos through Apple TV?
My inital problem is getting the photos onto TC in an individual folder not just a backup folder....is that possible or what would you suggest please? -
How can I add the hard drive icon to the menu bar on a MBPr
How can I add the hard drive icon to the menu bar on a MBPr? I have downloaded Google Earth and it wants me to drag it to the hard drive for install. I was able to display the icon but now I would like to put it on the menu bar. Is this possible? Or can I add it to the hardware section under system preferences?
I'm a new Apple user, coming out of the dark ages of a lifetime in the PC Windows world.
ThanksIt's on your Desktop, is it not? You cannot put it on the menubar through OS X although you may find third-party utilities that will. If you want it on the Desktop:
Select Preferences from the Finder's Finder menu and check the desired boxes:
Click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar to set what you want displayed in the Sidebar. -

How do I back up myentire iPhoto library to an an additional hard drive, I have a WD My Book 1TB hooked up to my MacBook Pro via USB 2 port.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -

How to connect a hard drive on Airport Extreme (second edition)
how to connect a hard drive on Airport Extreme (second edition)? Does it need a special format? It is now fromat on FAT32, but i don't see it ??
The USB port your Mac is high powered. The port on the AirPort Extreme is not.
So, it tends to be borderline as far as its ability to supply sufficient power to a hard drive...even if the hard drive has its own power supply.
Often, users...including me....need to use a powered USB hub when they attach any drive to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
You might want to give that a try. Double check to make sure that the drive is formatted in FAT32 as well, since Windows NTFS or exFAT will not work with the AirPort Extreme.
Powering down and restarting the entire network.....modem first, then router, etc.....is something that you would always want to do after any change or addition to a network. -
i have a mac os x ver. 10.5.8 2x2.8 quad. my start up disk is almost full. can i change my start up disk from the original hard drive to an additional hard drive i added in Bay 4?
Always want to keep the boot drive with more free space than may seem necessary for performance and to function at its best, 30-40% free or even 50% is not excessive.
Ideal is to separate your system from your data.
You should always have bootable backup / clone of your system
Don't use a green drive for system or data though.
When you are done cloning system and/or data, remove the old original and keep as backup.
Then move the system drive to #1 - no matter what you want to reset the default boot volume to where the system is.
