How to add audio devices under sound in system preferences

How do I add output audio devices under system preferences --only option listed is internal speakers?
Macbook help says to change device under sound in system preferences. However, only option listed it the internal
speaker.
I need to sound to come from my tv which is hooked via vga cable and audio cable.
Every thing works but I cannot get sound from tv.

You are my hero. I'm not very savy when it comes to connections. I had the audio cable hooked up to the audio port which is next to the headphone port on my macbook. After switching the tv was listed just as you said it would. Thanks so much. I'm now a very happy camper.

  • How to add audio to image sequence?

I've imported a Photoshop image sequence into FCP X 10.1.1.  Dropped it on the timeline, created a compound clip.  So far I can't figure out how to add audio of any kind.  I've tried starting over, making sure properties had audio setting enabled.  No change though.  No matter what I try, no audio tab in the inspector.  What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Are you importing an audio file that is seperate? Otherwise it is attached to your video. in the timeline, choose expand audio & video. You can import almost any format. Import it into the same event that you are in - a song from your desktop or from your folder where you copied all your contents from your camera card or music from ITunes (in which case you use the audio tab on the far right of the timeline UNDER THE INSPECTOR).
How did you import your media?:

  • CUPC - "Phone Error. Could not place call because you have no audio device or sound card."

Periodically throughout the day, CUPC will not make or receive calls, but instead presents a dialog box with the message "Phone Error. Could not place call because you have no audio device or sound card."  See attachment.
Signing out of and back into CUPC resolves the issue temporarily.
I have version 8.6.2 installed and I'm using a USB headset.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

    Hi Steve,
I have users reporting this as well with Jabra GN 2000 headsets. They claim using a different headset resolves it which I'm waiting to confirm but I was wondering if you were able to figure this out.
    Thanks

This is what it is for. Save As doesn't change the behaviour of Autosave. All changes always get saved at all times. If you want to save as a new document, then do that. If you want to do a save as, just don't make any changes beforehand.
Second problem is the load of internet pages! It is sooooo slow...
Try a new DNS server such as OpenDNS. The ones your ISP gives you can be very bad.

Airport Express (the small Airport device, which is the only one with an audio connection) works through Airtunes, which only works with iTunes. The computer won't send ALL system sound to the Airport. If you actually want to send sound outside of iTunes, use Airfoil.

  • I lost my internal speaker as a choice in output sound in system preferences.  There is nothing on my output list.  Now everything is stuck on mute...how do I fix this?

I lost my internal speaker as a choice in output sound in system preferences.  There is nothing on my output list.  Now everything is stuck on mute...how do I fix this?

It was red earlier, but not now.
Then try again. The red light indicates that an analog plug jammed the digital audio-out port in the "mute" position. The spec for the tip-to-shoulder distance is apparatenly tighter for digital ports than it is for analog plugs.
On my MacBook Pro, I insert the headphone plug only enough to hear that I have proper sound, and then quit pushing. In this photo, the headphones are giving proper sound quality and separation but the jack's stop shoulder, on a pair of name-brand headphones, is obvioulsy not touching the computer case.
The iMac has the same kind of port. Don't stick plugs in all the way--just until you here proper sound.

  • Audio stops playing - USB Codec output - "sound" in System preferences

We play music at our church from iTunes on our MB pro to an Allen & Heath 420 mixer via USB. This is switched to USB output in sound in System preferences. We have been doing this flawlessly for about 1.5 years.
Recently, in the middle of the music it stops. There is no more signal to the mixer but if I switch the preferences to internal speakers there is sound continuing. The only fix is to reboot which is very problematic in the middle of a music set.
This happens also when playing through the USB from Garageband as well.
It seems like a system wide codec issue but I don't know what the fix is for it.
Any suggestions? I cannot simply switch to using the miniplug because we record through that.

Find another Mac and check that the A&H works, report back.
You should also consider a decent external interface, recording off the minijack is the worst choice.

  • Can't open "sound" in system preferences

    Hello,
I've had a problem with the earphone jack today.(A red light was appearing when i took off the earphones) Anyway i seem to fix it but i can't open Sound from System Preferences. It's like stucked. Everything else is working but i can't change anything about Sound.
    What should i do?

you can try removing the audio settings, and see if you get get into settings.
to do so, open the terminal (applications, utilities)
    'sudo mv /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist.old'
    'sudo mv /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist /Library/Preferences/Audio/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist.old'

  • Deleting a "Location" under Network in System Preferences

Not certain if this topic should be here or under MBP, but here goes. How do you delete a "Location" under Network in System Preferences? What's happened, is that throughout the 15 months of MBP ownership and switching mobile phones pretty frequently, I've managed to acquire 4 different locations without intention, but only need one and would now like to delete the other three.
thanks in adavance for the help
    Paul

Choose Edit Location from the Location pop-up, then just select the ones you want to delete and click the "-" button.

  • Under APPLE MENU system preferences only opens sporadically, mostly not

Under APPLE MENU system preferences only opens sporadically, mostly not. I booted up with installation disk and ran a check but everything was alright. However, when I tried to click on items using the disk as a startup disk it frequently wouldn't function.

    George,
    Thanks for asking that question.
I offered this solution based upon similar successful advice which was given to another poster who solved this problem:Long story short I ended up reinstalling Mac OS X using Archive and Install. When I first used the computer following reinstalling Mac OS X, I was able to access the System Preferences by selecting them under the Apple in the menu bar. However, I have now updated my software using Software Update, and now I can't access System Preferences when I click on them under the Apple in the menu. The computer just acts like I never selected System Preferences.
Where have System Preferences gone??? provides another example of Previous Systems folder interfering with System Preferences.
Applications don't work after reinstalling Mac OS X explains a different problem with a Previous Systems folder: Example 1: You downgrade by performing an Archive and Install installation, but do not update to a later version of Mac OS X. The Previous Systems folder contains later versions of applications that may contribute to this issue. If you have proper backups, I recommend trashing the Previous Systems folder as soon as you can determine that the new system is functioning properly. The Previous Systems folders will either take up too much space or contribute to unexplained system problems.
    ;~)

  • Under Security in System Preferences I get "Preferences Error"

Under Security in System Preferences, when I click on Security I get the message "Preferences Error - Could not load Security".
This may be related to another problem I see. If I go into Accounts > Login Options, when I try to uncheck "Automatically log in", the window hangs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
when I click on Security I get the message "Preferences Error - Could not load Security".Strange behaviour by System Preferences can often be fixed by trashing com.apple.preferencepanes.cache in Home > Library > Caches folder. But it may not help in your case, so it may help to look in your log files to find out why your preference pane is not opening.
The simplest way to look at log files is to use Console.
Open the Console application from /Applications/Utilities. It will default to showing the "console.log" and possibly the "system.log". Use the File menu if necessary to get both these logs open, and use the Broom to Clear both windows.
Now try to open the Security preference pane and see what appears in either of these windows. Copy and paste it here.
You may see a message saying "Crash report written to <pathname of crash.log>". If so, click on the "Logs" icon at the top left in the tool bar. Then, depending on the <pathname of crash.log> in your message, look under either ~/Library/Logs or /Library/Logs by clicking the disclosure triangle, then click the disclosure triangle for "CrashReporter".
Find the crash log corresponding to your message and select it. It will open at the end of the log. Look back for the last line of asterisks in the log, then post everything after that to the end of the log.

  • How to add audio to keynote on iPad

I want to add audio to a presentation on keynote but I don't know how? There isn't an option to add audio in the media section.

    Hello Cami231100,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It looks like you will have to add the audio in Keynote on your computer, then import the project to your device from iTunes.
Keynote for iOS (iPad): Animate objects on a slide
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3486?viewlocale=en_US
You can also include music and sound effects in your presentation by placing an audio file onto a slide. To add an audio file to your presentation, you must first import a presentation that contains the audio file you want to use, and then copy and paste the audio file to any slide or presentation on your iPad.
This article will help you get the project to your computer, so you can add the audio, and will help you get the project back to the iPad.
Keynote for iOS (iPad): Share presentations by connecting to your computer

  • Satellite P30-145: Don't have an audio device in 'Sounds and Audio devices'

    Hi guys,
I've only just fixed one problem with the help of one fantastic member but now I have another!
All of a sudden my speakers decide not to work!! I checked the volume etc and alll was fine but when I went in control panel>sounds and audio devices it says I don't have an audio device!!!
It worked fine this morning and I havn't done anything that could have done this.
These problems I'm having are all spontaneous, I don't know what's going on!
Does anyone know how I can fix this and does anyone suspect virus activity? (I have done a scan which said I don't have any)
    I use a P30-145
    Many thanks

    Hi
Did you check the device manager?? Is the sound card listed properly in the device manager or some yellow exclamation marks appear?
Did you try to reinstall the sound driver? If not, please try it.
Of course I would also recommend to update the anti virus applications and to scan the system for virus and malware

  • How to add audio to individual slides?

According to the Keynote User Guide 2009, on page 70, it is possible to add a sound file to an individual file so that the sound stops when you go to the next slide and you can use a different sound file. What I want to do is use three or four songs on one power point presentation. It says you can do this but does not tell HOW to do it! There is an illustration of how to add sound for an entire slide show, but not for individuals slides. When you place the sound file in the window in the Inspector it goes for the entire show. But not indication how to do it for individual slides. Please inform, thank you.

Just drag the audio file onto the slide, and it will play when the slide appears. You can also use Builds to start and stop the audio.
