How to add blank page to document in progress...how to combine documents

As a long-time pagemaker user, I'm adjusting to Pages 2. I'm creating a photo directory using various sized photos, masked with shapes, along with small captions, half-page format. My problem. How can I add pages as I go along, without all that Greek placeholder type? (My first 9 pages are 99 MB). I'm thinking of creating the document in 10-page segments, then combining them before sending to our local printer. Is there any way to avoid the underlying text page layout that seems to rule the roost?
Thanks,
Slang.

Hello rotorboss,
first the last: there is no way in Pages to link images. All objects and media you insert into a document is stored into the package folder. But you can reduce the file size if you are able to handle an image editor. I think you have inserted your images directly from iPhoto, right? This means the images are in full resolution and size. But for 99 % of all images this is far more then needed.
Here is a post I wrote yesterday that will help you to reduce the size of your Pages document: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2711166&#2711166. If you need more details for image editing, feel free to ask.
To give you an example of document sizes: I am writing manuals and handbooks with 350+ pages and 300+ images (most for tutorials). Most of this images are screenshots and so they are only 72 dpi in resolution. But there are a few photos as well (the biggest is 10.5 mb in TIFF format (19.5 x 12.5 cm, 300 dpi) and I have reduced it to 4.3 mb in PNG format (19.5 x 12.5 cm, 300 dpi)). This documents have file sizes between 3 mb and 25 mb.
The only big problem is the use of CMYK images, because PNG can't handle this color format. So you have to use JPEG with good quality setting. To give you an example: the same image I mentioned above is 13.5 mb in size as a CMYK image. As a JPEG with 100 % quality and baseline optimisation you get a file size of 4.2 mb, but JPEGs compression is not lossless. In some special motifs you will get block artifacts. So you can choose the file type you want to use.

  • Feature request / Add blank pages

    Hey!
    I'm using the Adobe Reader for Android on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition since about one year and i'm very satisfied with it!
    But there is thing i'm missing meantime!
    I would like to add blank pages to a pdf document!
    Is there a way to add a feature like this in one of the next versions?
    Thanks for answer!

    We have noted down your request and would forward the same to the Product Management. However, we cannot commit if this would be available in the immediate future.
    Thanks,

  • Reader XI, placing blank page between document pages?

    I have Adobe Reader XI, Version 11.0.2.  In the last two weeks one our agents readers started placing a blank page between document pages.  We have re-installed the product a couple time, reset standard defaults, and it is stil placing blank pages between document pages.  Any ideas to rectify the problems.  Every document he pulls up this happens.

    Can you give us a link to a document with these pages?
    Reader cannot insert pages into a PDF file so something must be up with the PDF's themselves.

  • How do I create a multi-page doc / add blank pages in PSE 11?

    I am creating printable PDF files and up to yesterday I was using a free trial of PSE 10. To create a multi page document I first saved it as a PSE project file, then added blank pages, then when I was done I saved it as a PDF and voila - done!
    Now my trial has run out I have bought the paid version (which is now version 11) and I seem to have lost that option entirely. The product is useless to me without a way to create multi page PDFs - can anyone help?
    Alternatively can I downgrade back to PSE10 which was fine for me!
    Thanks

    Thanks - I just spent an hour online to support, they won't refund me until they can work out why it won't allow it in the new version?!! So they have shared my screen and taken my files to be worked on "at the next level" - there didn't seem to be an option to accept that this feature just wasn't available in the version 11, they kept trying to make it do it. Especially as they could open my multi page projects created in version 10 and add pages to them!
    Anyway, I would be open to using another free software MichelBParis, but I found it such a steep learning curve to figure out how to do it in PSE10, it would need to be simple. Do you have links to any you could recommend?

  • Remove blank page from document in Pages

    HI there
    I have created a document only require 1 page however it has created 2 pages. The second page is blank and I wish to delete it.
    Thanks

    It really helps if you tell us what version of Pages and what you have created and how.
    Generally however you probably just have something on that "blank" page and need to delete it:

  • Importing MS Word into PDF adds extra page with document info

    I am still evaluating Acrobat Pro, including Life Cycle Designer to create Forms, currently testing converting existing forms made in MS Word to PDF. There is someting that I do not know how to resolve is when I import files from MS Word, an extra page with details info about the document is copied as well. It contains info such as number of pages, author, date of creation etc....20 lines of info.
    This becomes akward when inserting the document into an existing pdf...or just create a new form from the Word document....adds the extra page ..
    Is there a setup somewhere that I could modify to not have the extra info? or how do I delete it? I try to select the text but cannot (within life cycle)
    Thank you

    If you are importing into Designer, you should ask in that forum. If in Acrobat, then you might try printing the WORD document to a PDF first and importing the PDF. However, with Acrobat you will not get the form fields that you are preserving with Designer.

  • Add blank pages widget to Dashboard

    I'd like to have a blank document page in my Dashboard so I can open it w/o going thru all the hoops that Pages '08 has added to the program. Is there a way to do this? If so, please list the steps I need to take.
    I have an intel iMac, bought in July 2008 with iWork 08.
    Thanks so much for your help.

    Put it (or a template of it) at the right end of the dock. One click will open it.

  • Inserting blank page for ads according to datamerged field.checking for whether a variable exists on

    Let me see if I can explain what I am trying to do. I have a script which loops through pages of an indesign document. I use a for loop to do so.
    Within each page is a text frame called "Advertising" with a Y or N as the value. If the value is Y, I want to insert a blank page before the page with the advertising field. Within the for loop however, there are calls to other data fields. My issue is that when I add a blank page, and the for loop continues, it errs out because the blank page does not contain the variable fields I am using. (highlights)...
    So my question is, how can I cause the for loop to skip the newly inserted page so that the missing variable doesn't cause the script to fail?
    should I be checking whether the layer exists then doing something like:
    if(newDoc.pages.item(i).pageItems.item("CompanyHighlights").length > 0){}
    for(var i = o; i < PageLength-1; i++){
    //some kind of check to determine whether it's a blank page, or a page with the variable.
         if(newDoc.pages.item(i).pageItems.item("CompanyHighlights").length > 0){
              var highlights= newDoc.pages.item(i).pageItems.item("CompanyHighlights").contents;
              var advertising = newDoc.pages.item(i).pageItems.item("Advertising").contents;
              if(advertising == "Y")
                   //add blank page before this page

    Thanks Hans, I actually got it working last night: I had to run a double if statement to check the Master page and move the counter var to a global var, and then add 1 to the counter "i" since I was adding a page, and add 1 to the PageLength so the for loop can continue on the pages that were moved ahead a page number by adding a page...not the best solution, but it works and I'm on a deadline. Thank you for trying to help though.
    //make i a global variable
    var i = 0;
    for(i = 0; i < PageLength-1; i++){
    //define master page of current page in the loop
    var masterpage = newDoc.pages.item(i).appliedMaster.name;
    //if its C-Master, skip it
        if(masterpage  != "C-Master"){
           //if it contains the merged Advertising field add a page
          var advertising = newDoc.pages.item(i).textFrames.item("Advertising").contents;
              if(advertising == "Y")
                   //Add a page.
                   newDoc.pages.add(LocationOptions.before, newDoc.pages.item(i) );
                   newDoc.pages.item(i).appliedMaster =app.activeDocument.masterSpreads.item("C-Master");
                   i=i+1;
                   PageLength = PageLength+1;
    var masterpageAgain = newDoc.pages.item(i).appliedMaster.name;
                if(masterpageAgain  != "C-Master"){
                   var highlights=newDoc.pages.item(i).textFrames.item("CompanyHighlights").contents;

  • Feeding blank pages

    I recently purchased an HP Laserjet Pro 200 MFP M276mw for my business. I'm running Mac osx 10.10. Every time I print an email, or a form off the internet, it only prints on the odd pages and adds 2 extra blank pages at the end. An example, I want to print an email that's 2 pages long. It will print on the 1st and 3rd page, the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th pages are all blank. The settings are set to print a letter size paper as a default on the printer and on my computer. This has been happening since I installed the printer which is brand new. I've deleted and added the printer several times along with downloading drivers. There is no setting anywhere to turn off "add blank pages". This is getting very frustrating since I have to go thru several drop down menues every time I need to print an email.

    Hi @amerlaw ,
    I see by your post that you are having issues printing a email and forms off the internet, it only prints on the odd pages and adds 2 extra blank pages at the end. I will do my best to help you.
    Try another web browser to see if you have the same results.
    What web browsers have you tried?
    What email client are you using?
    Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
    Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Laserjet Pro 200 MFP M276nw)
    If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Try printing again.
    If you are still having issues, please try the following steps:
    Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
    On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
    Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
    Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
    Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
    Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
    Click OK to confirm the reset.
    Type the correct Name and Password.
    Click OK to reset the printing system.
    Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.
    Are you also having this issue printing from other applications on the Mac?
    How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
    If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Submitting POST forms on certain websites returns a blank page

    Some websites with POST forms return a blank page when I submit the form. The data apparently gets submitted, so depending on the website I can refresh the page and it works fine. But some websites, this completely breaks the functionality.
    Most recently this happened to me clicking the "Ship to this address" button on Etsy (which is a site-breaking situation and refreshing took me back to the same page). Then I came here to register an account and, well, funny story, it actually happened when I clicked the Register button after filling out a username, password, and email address (but refreshing worked).
    Possibly related: around the same time this started happening, I noticed that 307 redirects would give me a blank page saying "Document has moved [link]here[/link]," and I'd have to click "here" to move on, as opposed to the redirect automatically happening.
    I've tried disabling add-ons and it hasn't helped.

    Clicking the Post Question button just now also sent me to a blank page, and refreshing just took me back to the Post Question form. Fortunately by confirming my account through my email, my question got posted. Otherwise I would have had to post on this forum in Chrome. The horror.
    (EDIT: But the Post Reply button worked perfectly)
    (EDIT 2: Update Answer did not)

  • Add new pages to a photo project

    This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshopelements/using/WS287f927bd30d4b1f561c711e12e28a900cc- 7fe2.html

    I am doing what it says but "add blank page" is not highlighted so it won't work.  Why?

  • How to insert blank page into pages document when using word processing mode?

    I've recently created a 50+ page document using Pages '09. I started the document using word processing mode. Now, when I view in thumbnail mode and try to insert a blank page somehwere in the middle of the document, it won't allow me to select where I want. It just selects all the pages, as thought they are one section. I believe this is because I am in word processing mode. My question is, can I convert the document to layout mode so that each page represents it's own section, without losing what work I've already done? And if so, how?
    The document is entirely text boxes and images, so I don't have any need for word processing space. I just need new pages to act as blank templates for the text boxes and images I create.
    Is it possible to keep all my work as is, and convert the document to layout mode vs. word processing mode?
    Thanks!

    It just selects all the pages, as thought they are one section.
    That's because they are one section. You must insert section breaks to separate them. There is no need to use page layout which does make each page a separate section. You have to manually add each page & use text boxes or other containers for the text & link the text boxes.

  • I'm in a multi-page document, how can i rearrange the pages or insert blank pages in front of pages? Also, is there a way to show the ruler both horizontally and vertically?

    I'm in a multi-page Pages document, how can i rearrange the pages or insert blank pages in front of pages? Also, is there a way to show the ruler both horizontally and vertically?

    Not on my document. I have a 7 page document open. The "flashing vertical bar" is at the top of page 3. I have the thumbnail view showing. I click page break and two blank pages are added to the end of my document. I have to scrool thru the pages to see that the 2 pages were added as they do not appear in the layout view... I'm not sure if it is inserting a "section" as it adds two blank pages.. But I am clicking on "INSERT PAGE BREAK".. So guess there are still a lot of bugs to fix..
    Thanks again
