The way that you would transfer photos from iPhoto to the iPad would be to sync with iTunes. Connect the iPad to your Mac with the cable and launch iTunes. I am not sure how the iPad will handle a slide show in the photos app that was created on your Mac. I moved about a 1000 photos from iPhoto to a new folder I created in an external drive to save space in iPhoto. How do I create a slide show in the new folder? When I click a photo to enlarge it it goes into Preview mode which enables you to have a slide show. But do I have to click and enlarge all 1000 photos? There is bound to be a simpler way.

I see you are still using Jaguar, is this true?
With Tiger (10.4) you can select all the photos in a folder
control click on the photos and scroll to "slideshow"
You can also select all the photos in the folder
double click on the selection to have them open in Preview
In preview use the option for a slideshow.
This does tell me that you might have a newer version of OS X than what is noted in your specs.
Also, I think there is a limit to the number of photos that will open in a slideshow or preview. It might be around 99 or 150 (I can't remember right now)

I don’t think it’s possible in the slideshow editor but the simplest method is to place your photos in an album and then select the first thumbnail and hit the F11 key. Select the tools icon and choose repeat.

You don't.
Slideshows are exported as movies and these are very large files. Email is not an appropriate medium for very large files as they can cause immense issues for the receiver.
Better to share some other way.

JJMack covers some possibilities, predicated on the embedded player in your Web site.
You might want to look at another pair of Adobe programs, that work well together: Adobe Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements. They are available in a bundle, and, if you do not have Photoshop Extended (up through CS 5.5), or Ps CS 6, or Ps CC, they cost MUCH less.
One can create the SlideShow in the Organizer (sort of like Bridge, but with some differences), then can Send to Premiere Elements for final editing, such as the addition of Narration, or a Soundtrack. From PrE, one can then output to many, many different formats for linking to the player on the Web site.
Now, if you have Ps Extended, Ps CS 6, or Ps CC already, you have video-editing capabilities, but some of the output options (and even Import options), will be limited.
If searching for a program (or bundle of programs), then the Elements duo will do exactly what you need. Also, both of those programs have their own, very active forums, so you will have two communities to offer you support.

HOW DO I : Add caption to photos; show captions when photo prints

using Mac (OS 10.4.8) , importing jpeg from iPhoto 6.
Photos were named in iPhoto but name (example: "johnny Jones, 2006") is not imported.
I need the photo names ( or "label" or "caption"- whatever it is called.
I don't know how to caption (name) individual photos in Photoshop Elements 4. I see the Get Info but when I add a title , it shows up as " johny Jones, 2006.jpg"
- I don't want the extension ".jpg" to show up
- I don's see any caption when I do a print preview
How is this done?
( am making a picture package of friends' pix.. need to show name of each friend below the person's photo

You could enlarge the canvas - Image>resize>canvas size, select a % increment for height, click the arrow pointing towards 12o'clock, check relative. Then type unique caption below picture with text tool. Text will be on its own layer, position it in place, simplify layer. You can fill residual area of transparency at bottom with paintbucket tool in color of your choice. Finally crop picture to conform to size of your paper.

It doesn't look like the xml file matches the code. While folks here like to help, there's a point where the effort is fairly time consuming and it becomes doing your design work for you, which is what we normally do for a living. Your best bet will be to find something that has all of the features you want included in it. If you are willing to spend a little money, you can probably find one fairly inexpensive that you can tailor to your needs without having to edit the file code at all.
You can always wait to see if someone else responds.

It's often necessary to delete the album art from an mp3 track before adding to a slideshow.
If using Apple files, it's possible to make an MP3 in iTunes.

PSE 4 Use Filenames as Captions in Slide Show

Most of my files have meaningful filenames. However when I want to make a slide show I can't figure out how to get the filenames to display as captions so people know whats going on. Is there a way of copying the filenames to the captions field. I would hate to have to copy and paste each one.

Justin, I am having the same problem as you. I will look into what Cyclosaurus is saying to do, but it is probably a bit complicated for my brain. One thing you can do without any coding, is to space down your captions 3 or 4 times on the page where the full size version of your picture is. Then, your captions will not have a line through them when viewing in the slideshow mode that includes the thumbnails. Also, the full truncated captions will not appear in the true slideshow. I have the first line showing and then I spaced all the rest of the description down. It's a bit clumsy but it worked for me. Hope that is helpful.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:

Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
