How to add files to iPod Touch?

The manual states this is the procedure to add files to an iPod Touch:
Transfer a file from iPod touch to your computer:
1 Connect iPod touch to your computer.
2 In iTunes, select iPod touch in the Devices list, then click Apps at the top of the screen.
3 In the File Sharing section, select an app from the list on the left.
4 On the right, select the file you want to transfer, then click “Save to” and choose a destination on your computer.
Problem is, there is NO file sharing section at all in app section of iTunes.
I would like to put the PDF file of the iPod Touch manual on the device but see now way how to do so.
Thanks for any help.

That section is talking about how to move files from the iPod to iTunes and not the other way around. First you need to import this PDF into your iTunes library.
The next thing you'll want to do if you haven't already, is download the iBooks app to your iPod.  From there, configure your iPod to sync the PDF from the iPod's Books tab in iTunes.
See these two articles for more information on using and downloading the iBooks app as well as how to sync Books/PDFs to your iPod.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • How to add files from iPod to new hard drive after krasch?

My hard drive recently crasched. I use my iPod as back up. But now, I cannot find out how to copy the files back to the new hard drive on the computor. The iTune program only advices me to delite all information on the iPod to substitute it with the much lesser library on the computer. Obviously it must be possible to copy in both directions. But how do I do it?

Thank you for your advise. That's one thing I learned. Not to assume that people know about backing up. I would have recommended it a long time ago. That's one thing that Apple or other computer stores should offer, external backup package or combo to make people aware of it's importance. Just a thought!
Anyway, I do have a little background in troubleshooting. I thought it's a Mac security issue. I would want to try other options before deciding in opening the computer and taking out thehard drive as it is not as convenient as opening a PC.
Apple does make external hard drives available at the Apple Store, however it is an end users responsibility to backup their system. Apple does offer classes to new users and their 1:1 service too, whether the subject of backing up is mentioned in these I do not know. The subject of backing up as a class "subject" may be something you may want to mention to Apple a www.apple.com/feedback.
Many users go through the same pain as your friend, myself included! However once you go through the pain, it is a lesson seldom forgotten.
Many experiences users on these forums have redundant methods of backing up. When it comes to backing up redundancy is wise, why because a backup can (and often do) fail too. For example, in addition to using Time Machine, I also have another EHD that I use to create a bootable clone of my computer. That way if both my internal drive and TM back fails the worst that will happen is I have a system I can boot from that is a day or so old and continue running until I get all my systems fixed.

  • How to add notes in iPod Touch?

Hi, I have a big text file that I want as a note in my iPod. I cant really type them all as it is a huge text note. Is there anyway that I can electronically copy it as a note in my iPod ?? Any tips, ideas ?

Do you sync to Outlook? If so, you know that there are Notes in it (down at the bottom along with Tasks). I found that these are all synced along with the calendar and contacts, so if you put your note there it should be transfered. You access it by going to Mail and then go "up the tree", scroll down and you'll see notes and tasks, where whatever was on your computer will be!

  • How do i sync my ipod touch to a new pc, as i can no longer get on my old laptop?

How do i sync my ipod touch to a new pc, as i can no longer get on my old laptop.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Have you failed to do this?  not good.
You can transfer itunes purchases form an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases
You can enter a unique contact and calendar entry on the computer.  you should get the option to merge.
You can import any pics taken with the ipod, and e-mail any pics synced to the ipod to yourself.
The ipod is not a storage/backup device.  It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which you sync.

  • How do i restore my iPod touch to Factory settings?

What I should do before I starts the reset and what to do after, I already copied my pics and videos  and can re-add all my  songs again later.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • Please how can I restore my ipod touch 2g from a firmware that I own already on my computer and without any time need to download via itunes

please how can I restore my ipod touch 2g from a firmware that I own already on my computer and without any time need to download via itunes

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.  To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

  • How do I connect an IPod Touch (4th Generation) to media player to sync a music playlist?

How do I connect an IPod Touch (4th Generation) to Windows media player to sync a music playlist? It is not listed in the listing of compatible devices for Windows Media Player. And it does not recognize my IPod. It does recognize my IPod as a camera perhaps because it has pictures in it. Thank you!

No. You can only sync an iPod from media in your iTunes library.
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device> and follow the instructions.

  • I want to view a pdf file, or excel/word file, on ipod touch.

How can I send a pdf file, or word/exceel file, to ipod touch and then view it?  I don't need to edit the file but just to view it.

Sadly there's no way to do that on apple's Preview.
Adobe reader, however, has this option.

how do i use 2 ipod touches with 1 itunes account?  can they share apps and music etc. I'm not very good at any tech so advise would be much appreciated.

Yes. You can sync an unlimited number of iDvies that you control to one iTunes library/account. If using the same iTunes library on the same comutr just make sure that yu go to the ap. music and other pane for the iPod in iTunes and select sycn selected items. Not the the whole library.  That way each iPod can have it own contents.
