How to add highlight mark to video?

I'm a novice video editor. I need to produce a sports video, and I need to highlight an individual player by putting a circle, an arrow, or some other type of highlight around the individual player for a second or two. Anyone know how to do this? I know that iMovie has no such capability, but I'm hoping that someone could refer me to third-party software that could do this.
Thanks in advance!

Karen -- THANK YOU! I used the technique you suggested with PhotoShop, and it worked GREAT.
To make it easy to position the circle that I created in PhotoShop, I did this:
1) In iMovie, place the cursor (that might not be the right word to use, maybe I should say the time index?) in the place where you want to add an overlay circle. Create a still image by control-clicking. Set the length of that still image to however long you want your overlay circle to last (e.g. 1 second)
2) Open the still image in PhotoShop.
3) Add a layer
4) Add an image on that layer. I used a large "0" (using the type tool) which I then filled with red color. The background layer shows you exactly where to place your image.
5) Delete the background layer.
6) Save the image as TIFF with a transparent background, as you suggested on your web site. Save it to "Photo Booth" folder.
7) Find the image (the highlight) in iMovie. (It will be in the photo browser window.)
8) Drag the image on top of the still image that you created in step 1.
9) Now you can either move that still image (with the new overlay circle) to wherever you need it in your movie, or you can drag the overlay image on top of your original video.

  • How to add tick marks to all sides of graph

    Hi,
I'm trying to format a graph in numbers and would like to know how to add tick marks to all axies on the graph, ie. top, bottom, left & right.
I can get tick marks on the bottom and left axis, but can't seem to find a way to add them to the others.\
    Thanks,
    Oscar

    Hi Oscar,
Numbers 2.3, but this will work in Numbers 3.0.1 with different Inspector choices.
When in doubt, cheat! This will give a second Y axis. It is a 2-Axis Chart (the bottom one in this screen shot of Chart Types):
Column C (Value 2) has dummy values copied from Column B (Value 1).
Now hide the Column graph by selecting it and changing the fill to None. (Inspector > Graphic > Fill > None).
Set gridlines, tick marks, hide Legend as you wish.
To add a second X axis at the top, Chart Inspector won't do that. Insert Shapes and Text Boxes?
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • How to add a locally stored video file to a presentation

    Hi all ,
I want to add a locally stored video file to a presentation .What is the url that i need to use..
    Ur help is much appreciated
    Thanks

The recommended procedure is to create the presentation on the DMM (upload the video to the DMM) then create a deployment package using the presentation created on the DMM. Once you deploy it to the DMP, the DMM will FTP the video along with presentation files to the DMP which will contain the links to play the video that will be stored locally on the DMP.
You may want to review the following thread to see how to trigger the local presentation to play and how to update it later:

I'm not sure the is a solution in your version. Duncan Mills blogged about a solution here https://blogs.oracle.com/groundside/entry/placeholder_watermarks_with_adf_11 but it's for a later version.
However it might help you getting started.

  • How to add "clip marker" to clip in sequence?

    Hi,
i need to add markers to clips in my sequence. In 5.5 i'd just select the clip in the sequence and then go Marker > Clip Marker > Set.  I don't see this option in 6, was it moved or removed?  Right now i have to add a few steps and double click the clip in the sequence to load it into the viewer and then add a marker and that's a complete waste of time.  Is this the only way to do it in 6?
    Thanks

    Thanks Ann,
in case anyone else needs this. here's an image.

  • How to add chapter marker in DVD Studio Pro

I have imported 7 movie clips into DVD Studio Pro but forgot to put chapter markers on them. Is there any way that I can add these in DVD SP direct?

    Hi
Of course you can, but be aware that from iside DVDSP you can only add markers at GOP boundaries, what means you cannot select an exact frame, like yuo can do when adding markers in FCP or Compressor.
To add a marker in DVDSP, select the track and place the playhead in the place where you want to add your marker and press M.
    Hope that helps !

  • How to add text on a video

I'm looking to add text on video. to act as marker or cueing points on a music file for other musicians practicing a band song. How can I do this in GARAGEBAND? I've looked into adding TITLES and CHAPTERS but can't seem to get the text to appear on the rendered video. Thanks

GB isn't for movie editing, you'll have to do it in a software like iMovie.

  • How to add moving shapes over video?

    Hi,
I am making a short video that explains how to use some software for my job. I want to make a red rectangle appear around a particular item to highlight it (such as the mouse pointer) and be able to follow the motion of the item. I saw in the Boris documentation there was reference made to vector shapes, but I could not figure out where to create them. How can I create simple shapes that can move around and dynamically change size? Thanks.

Sorry, I forgot to say I am using Final Cut Express HD 3.5.

The only way you can do it within FCE is by using motion keyframes. Create the shape in Photoshop, making sure it confirms to your video settings. You may also be able to create the shape within FCE by using a combination of Color (from Video Generators>Matte) and applying Mask Shape to it.
Set the shape on the video track above your clip (ie clip on V1, shape on V2). Click on the shape to open the motion controls in the Canvas (make sure Image + Wireframe is selected in Canvas). Now use the Motion contorl tab in the Viewer or the Motion handles in the Canvas to move the shape, setting Keyframes to animate the motion

  • How to add website name to video with QTX?

I want to add the name of my website to video clips in such a way that it will be difficult for others to copy the video, remove my website name and republish it without any credit to me. At present I am using QuickTime to 'Save for Web' and then uploading the resultant file (M4V) to my website. The videos are just video blogs so they're not high-tech productions!
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.7. I used to have Quicktime Player 7 Pro. I now seem to be running QuickTime Player 10.0
I cannot find a User Guide to QTP 10. The user guide for QTP7 does refer on page 35 to adding text to a video but a) it refers to a Clipboard I can't find and the menu options don't match what I'm looking at in QTP10; and b) if I can find a way to follow these instructions, how easy will it be for someone to simply download my video file and remove the text anyway?
I'd appreciate any help or advice you can offer.

If you had QT 7 keyed for "Pro" use when you upgraded to OS X.6, then a Snow Leopard versions of the QT 7 Pro player should have been placed in the "Applications/Utilities" folder automatically. Alternately, if you still cannot find QT 7 on your upgraded system, you could try using the free MPEG Streamclip application. In many ways it functions as a QT 7 Pro alternative for conversions, merging files, and such but does not have QT 7 Pro's layering and masking features. However, it does have a built-in text "watermarking" feature in the "Adjustments" window. I.e., instead of using the QT X "Save for Web" option, you would use the MPEG Streamclip "Export to MPEG-4" option and add your "text" watermark before actually performing the export. Alternatively, many QT 7 Pro users add a graphic watermark or logo as a means of identifying their content. If interested, here are a couple of old QT "Quickie" tutorials for adding a graphic logo/watermark:
    Adding a Graphic Logo
    Adding a Graphic Watermark
how easy will it be for someone to simply download my video file and remove the text anyway?
If you embed a watermark or logo before exporting your file to its final compression format for posting to your site, then it is virtually impossible to remove totally without editing each frame of your clip at the pixel level. (It would, however, be easy to cover the logo or watermark with an opaque mask.) On the other hand, if you add the logo or watermark, text or graphic, as a post export edit in its own track layer, then it is quite easy to remove it using an application like QT 7 Pro or, in rare cases, by simply copying the main audio/video tracks to a different file container type.

You have shared RAM you don't have dedicated Video RAM that is shared with your regular Computer RAM.

  • How to add custom art to video podcast episode

I've been told that iPods pull a frame from the videos to display as a thumbnail for a given video episode. However, I've noticed that TED talks customizes their artwork (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/tedtalks-video/id160892972). Anyone know how to do this? I publish .m4v files using the Quicktime Pro export to iPhone preset.

I don't know what iPods do, but subscribing in iTunes shows the first frame of the movie unless you also embed an image in the file. The process for doing this is described in this page:
    http://homepage.mac.com/rfwilmut/notes/faq.html#coverart
Start at paragraph 3; the method given is for mp3 files but I imagine it works the same for video files.

  • How to add more than 2 videos

I've created a Movie webpage and have successfully added two videos. I now want to add a third (or more), but there is no more room on the page. Is the only way to do this to use the "Add Page" button and create another Movie page? Is there another way to do this?

Welcome to the discussions. You can increase the height of the page via iWeb's Inspector > Page pane > Layout tab > Content Height.
