How to Add/Install 16Gb Disk Caching SSD?

Hello everyone,
I just bought the HP Envy 700QE desktop from Costco.  I did find the guide about this desktop/tower (www.nhangraphic.com/HP-Envy-700QE-Upgrade.pdf) but nothing is mention about how to install/config the additional 16Gb Disk Caching SSD.  I really want to have this to improve the performance of the desktop.   Could someone please help me how to add/install and full config 16Gb Disk Caching SSD for this HP Envy 700QE Desktop step by step? Thanks in advance.

Hi Frank,
mSATA is just a mini-onboard SATA connector where a small circuit board (msata device) can be inserted.  Typically it's used as a way with small form factor devices to add SSD like performance.
You can change the SATA controller mode from the default AHCI setting to RAID in the bios.  Use Computer Setup to enter the bios. Tapping the ESC key right after power on the PC should bring up a menu selection.
If you run into problems then let us know.

    Hello @JoBla,
Thank you for the information, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how you are wondering if your desktop computer's hard disk is caching is being used, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
For caching on your computer, you will have needed to install one of the following drives:
    1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
    2 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
    3 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA
1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
2 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
3 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA + 16 GB Disk Caching Solid State Drive
128 GB SATA Solid State Drive
256 GB SATA Solid State Drive
It is likely that this caching drive will be shown in Disk Management, which can be accessed by following this document on Partitioning and Naming Drives (Windows 8). It is important to note that an mSATA drive will not be visible in Windows, if you have one installed. You will also need to have Intel RST software installed.
    I hope this helps!

How do I install a mini disk in my macbook?

  • How do i install from the disk?

Hello, I just bought a new mac. The mac comes with iLife 09 and my old mac had iLife 08. How do I use the new disk that came with the new mac and download the iLife 09 software to my old Mac? I tried and it said I cant? Any way I can?

There is no way to do it that complies with the software license agreement that you agreed to when you first booted up your new Mac. You will have to buy a retail version of iLife 09 if you want it on your old Mac.

  • How do I install Mac OS X on SSD?

    Hello All,
I will be buying a Samsung 840 Pro Series Solid State Drive to instal into my Macbook (white) mid-2010. How do I instal Mac OS X onto the new SSD? Thanks for your help.

No, because the flash drive is a recovery system. Which is basically the 'Installer' for OS X, and so after you put in the New SSD, you boot to the flash drive (Boot holding down "option" and select the flash drive) and choose "Reinstall OS X" which will download (from Apple servers) and install OS X onto the drive you select. (You may need to use Disk Utility to format the drive to Mac OS Extended {Journaled} first)

You can't just go grab a car from the dealer and drive it until they notice you didn't pay for it. I'm pretty sure that's called theft and, according to Google, you'd be spending at least a year in jail.Software piracy happens a lot more than you think, and not just with small start ups.The most widely used excuse I hear is, "We need this software but we didn't have the budget or management wouldn't approve it." Every time I hear this I want to grab the person by their shoulders and shake them violently while screaming, "YOU HAVE TO BUY IT IF YOU WANT TO USE IT!"No matter how many pats on the back you get for "acquiring" that expensive piece of software for your users, it's not worth it. Eventually, someone will notice. And when they do, it's your ass on the line. After all, management told youno. If they ask for it, but won't buy it,...

  • How do I install software from disk on Macbook Air?

I have an external CD player but the Macbook Air doesn't seem to recognise it. So how do I get my software from disk onto my Macbook?

I did not get the "This document is not recognised do you want to choose an application to open it with" error message.  It's just that it is not recognizing any content at all on the CD in Finder.  I have used this external CD drive before with this Macbook.  I also tried to open the docs through Word and it again showed that a CD was in "Devices" as a "Remote Disc" but does not recognize any of the docs on the CD.

Do you know how to create an iBot? If you do, then just chain the iBots to fire one after the other or schedule them separately. There is a checkbox to seed the cache. Take a look and you will see.

  • How to re-install windows from disk

    Hi
I have taken lenovo rescue recovery to my external drive sometime ago.
I am planning to upgrade my HDD to SSD and would like to re-install windows freshly from factory recovery.
However, when i tried to create rescue media, it was complaining "Only one Microsoft windows copy" in the system.
This seems due to previous factory backup taken to my external drive.
Now, i want to use the external drive to re-install windows. Please help me how do i re-install after fixing my SSD
    Thanks in advance

You should have made a bootable USB in the rescue process. After installing the new SSD, boot into that USB with your external drive (with the data part) plugged in. It may also be possible that the external drive is also the bootable drive, which makes things easier.
After that, you should be in the Rescue and Recovery environment, where you can restore the factory copy of Windows onto your new SSD.

  • How do I install Cs3 from disk, after trashing the trial version?

I've made the mistake of trashing the trial version of Cs3 that I had on my imac a few years ago.
Now I'd like to install photoshop cs3 on my imac as my other computer is out dated and I get the error message that CS3 is conflicting with CS3 on the computer.
I realise it was a mistake to trash the trial. Is there anything I can do?

Download the cleaner tool from the following location and select "CS3" from the pop-up menu. http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs5clean.html
It will show you all CS3 products installed on your machine and will also allow you to remove them selectively. Select the trial build and click "Cleanup".
Or if you have no other CS3 or CS4 application installed on your machine you can just click "Clean All CS3/CS4" to clean your machine.
Then try to install Photoshop CS3.

  • How to add event files on disk to imovie

I recently upgraded my hard disk on my  Mac Pro and transferred all my media files.
Now when I open iMovie10 apart from two event files, I cannot see in the event pane all the iMovie events on the hard disk.
These files are present in Finder.

    Thanks AppleMan.
I had relocated my Movies to a Movies folder in secondary internal drive. The iMovie/Events folder resides in the Movies folder in the secondary internal drive.
When I checked the properties of the Movies folder alias under User, I realised it was pointing to a non-existing drive. I corrected it to point to the correct location.
Now when I launch iMovie, I can see iMovie optimizing my media files, but still nothing shows up under Even Library neither do the Projects under the Project Library, except the list of drives.

  • How do I install OSX onto a new SSD (in the place of my optical drive) without transferring all data across.  However, with the applications, system and library on the SSD to improve the speed, but keep non essential items (the home folder) on the HDD

I have a mid 2009 13 inch unibody 2.53GHz MacBook Pro.  I'm finding that it doesn't run as quickly as it used to.
A genius in the Apple store suggested that I replace my optical drive with an SSD, however only use the SSD for OSX, applications, system and library.  Keep all documents, pictures, music etc on the current hard drive.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with:
    1) installing OSX on the SSD without copying across data from the current hard drive
    2) transferring applications, system and library folders across to the SSD so that they still function
    3) changing my settings so that OSX reads the home folder from the current hard drive, as well as all the applications' data (documents, music etc...)
However, I would like to run iMovie, with all events etc solely from the SSD to speed up the process of editing movies.
If anyone could help with this, it would be much appreciated.

If you got the data transfer cable with your SSD, the procedure should be pretty simple - and there should be step-by-step instructions in the box. You're simply going to remove the bottom case of your computer (using a Phillips #00 screwdriver), take out the two screws in the bracket holding the hard drive into place (using same screwdriver), remove the drive and (use a Torx 6 screwdriver) remove the four screws that hold the hard drive in place. Then put in the SSD and reassemble the machine.
Then you'll plug up the old hard drive by using the SATA to USB cable and use the option key to boot from the old drive. I don't know what data transfer software Crucial provides, but I would recommend formatting the SSD  using Disk Utility from your old drive ("Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a single GUID partition) and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your old drive to your new SSD (see this user tip for cloning - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4122). You needn't worry about getting an enclosure since you have the data transfer cable and you don't want to use your old hard drive.
There are a number of videos on YouTube that take you step-by-step through this procedure - many specific to Crucial SSDs and their data transfer kit - do a little searching there if you're unsure of how to procede.

  • How do I install Lion on a 2nd (SSD) hard drive?

I installed and formatted a 128 GB solid-state drive (SSD) on my Mac Pro. (My Mac Pro has four drives: a hard drive with Lion, a hard drive with Leopard for a legacy app, a hard drive for Time Machine, and the new SSD.) I went to the app store to download Lion to install on the SSD but I can't figure out how to download it. The download button says "Installed." Rebooting from the Leopard hard drive won't work because Lion can only be installed on a computer running Snow Leopard. (I tried to update the Leopard hard drive to Snow Leopard but for unknown reasons it won't let me.) I looked for the Lion Installer in my Downloads folder but I can't find it there. What should I do?
A good answer would be to return the SSD! I've spent hours trying to install this, to make my computer a couple seconds faster. The first 2.5" to 3.5" drive adapter didn't work because it was made for computers with cables, not for computers with sleds. Finding the right adapter was a challenge (and cost $40).

You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
