How to add .mkv videos to iTunes?

Hi everybody,
I want to add my movies to iTunes movie library but it doesn't let me to add .mkv files:(
Anyone can help?

I don't know much about .mkv I believe it is a package format. If you're lucky you can open it in a program such as Streamclip and re-save it as .mp4, but that's only if the enclosed codecs work in .mp4 Otherwise you'll have to use one of the many free (or I am sure eventually somebody who makes one that costs money but basically does the same as the free ones will eventually post here as hidden advertising) transcoders to re-code it to a format playable by iTunes.

ok heres what im doing im clicking file on itunes and im using both options one of which is import and the other is called add file to library...then i look in my music and its all there..and when i click the file i want my only option in the box is open and cancel i click open and the box just disapeers and nothing happens..am i missing something?..this also happens when trying to add music..

What type of file are you trying to add? Is it a wma file or a protected file?
Try going to the file in windows, then drag and drop it to iTUnes

What sort of videos are they, and what app do you want to sync them to ? If they were taken with your camera and they are in a format supported by the iPad, then you could sync them to the Photos app - with the iPad connected and selected on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, you can use the Photos tab on the right-hand side of iTunes to sync photos and videos (there is an 'include videos' tickbox on that tab) to the Photos app.
Or you can sync them to the Videos app. If you can add them to your iTunes library (File > Add To Library) you can then use Movies tab (instead of the Photos tab) to sync them to the Videos app. If you can add them to your library but they don't sync over because they aren't in a supported format then try doing Advanced > Create iPad Version and then try syncing those versions.

I did try to add video in different folders but in the palm device are loaded in the same playlist. Is there a way to organize video files?

1. The IPOD Video needs the right video format
2. There a dozends of 3rd party SW solutions available to convert almost every format into the IPOD Video compatible format - some of them are freeware - use e.g. Google to find some.

I'm sorry, I'm a bit unclear on your exact question. If you are talking about watching something that you have previously purchased but is no longer in your iTunes Library for whatever reason, you should be able to redownload it from the iTunes Store in most instances. Using a debit card in any online service where it stores your card is a bad idea in any case since if someone gains access to your account in the service, they can quickly drain your bank account. Credit cards limit your liability, as do prepaid iTunes cards.

Hi. I've only had my iPod Touch for two months now and I have songs, games, and pictures on it. The only thing missing are the videos.
i download them and they're on my documents. i don't know what video type they are. i download them from mediafire.com.
anyways, i got at least half of the videos that i want on my document, but i don't know how to add them to iTunes.
I'll click the file, and nothing happens. I've tried dragging, but the won't let me drag it. i don't know how to work iTunes videos.

I don't know if you have a mac or windows, but for mac there is great tool available I use all the time: VideoDrive. It puts any video in iTunes: simply drag the videos on the application and it will download artwork, metadata and then put it in the right iTunes category (movies or TV Shows). You can choose to convert videos or keep them in their original format (mkv, avi and so on). Obviously converting is much slower. This drives me CRAZY that iTunes will allow me to classify my .mp4 music videos that I get from other sources (NOT bought from the iTunes store) as a Music Video but iTunes STILL keeps it classified under the Movie listing. It also bugs me that I can't organize my library properly. For example, I have a music performance/concert video and instead of having it in a separate list of "Musical Performances", iTunes contains it under Movies. This is a first for me to complain about my iTunes experience but I just wish there would be some flexibility for me to add content and categorize/list it under my personal preferences. Anything wrong with that?

If you go to the Get Info menu and set Video Kind to Music Video it will only appear in your music library, and not in the Movie section.
The tool VideoDrive (www.aroona.net) will automatically classify all your videos when you import them in iTunes, based on file and folder name, the length of the video and other metadata...
