Some progess I see. To be honest, i would not waste your time with trying to connect using wireless.
You are likely to get poor connections and dropping out.
If its working using a cable, then there is no need to bother with giving me the network settings, bu see how it goes, because sometimes giving the TV a static IP address can give better results.
There is an example of a couple of powerline adapters on the diagram below. Just ignore the network switch unless you want to connect other devices which are near to the TV.

Sound Effects - need 'record needle remove'

Hey all,
Does anyone know where i can find a VERY SPECIFIC sound effect? I am looking for one that is like removing a needle from a vinyl record - it is not a 'rap scratch' which I have found oodles of sound effects for. This would be removing the needle while dragging it across a few of the grooves giving the 'removal scratch'...

How to listen to music and record sound at the same time

I want to figure out a way to record sound and listen to my music at the same time. Most recording apps stop my music when it starts to record and I can't find an app that does both. Any ideas?

Why does my new garageband 10.0.03 not have the legacy with sound effects or radio sound preset or applause preset???? I need these to be able to chop samples into the keyboard keys by dragging and dropping them into the keys.

I am just trying to chop samples and drop them into a track with legacy-sound effects- radio sounds, so that I can play with them and chop them onto keys. I see a bunch of videos on youtube showing you how to do it, but I can't find those kits on the newest garageband.

All these effects are part of the loops in the iLife Sound effects loop package, that was a part of the application bundle iLIfe '11 (iPhoto. iMovie, GarageBand '11). These loops are neither installed by GarageBand 10.0 or GarageBand '11, nor MacOs X, you need an iLife '11 installer disk to get these loops.
And GarageBand 10 also does not have the Sound Effects instruments any longer, that let you drag samples onto keys. It is one of the sorely missed features, that have been discontinued in the new version GarageBand 10. even if you install the previous version, GarageBAnd '11, to add the Sound effects instrument to GarageBand 10. it will not work properly, because GarageBand 10 will not save the custom instrument with the samples. You will have to complete your song in one session, without quitting GarageBand.

May I bother you with a question?
Can I add the same effect twice? OR can I "merge layers", similar to PS, then add a new batch of effects?
I have experienced the same problem a couple of times, here is an example:
1. I stabilize my clip (by motion tracking including rotation. dozens of keyframes are added to the transformation->rotation of the layer)
2. The result is crooked and I want to rotate it.
3. The only (very bad) options I see: edit each keyframe, by adding my -5°; or rendering it and editing it again
I had the same problem with plug-ins that have effect e.g. on transformation. Once I use it, the former settings are overwritten.
I guess there is a simple answer I should be able to find in the FAQ's or tutorials, but after 2 hours I'm either blind or a fool. Could you please help me?

I found another great way to make it work (even though I'll just use it, when the null-object ect. won't work):
It's called "precomposed layers" and works really well, especially because it allows you to edit compositions that have "time distortion" and "time stretching" enabled. once you have a layer that has some time-relevant effects and want to add another effect (e.g. tracking, or twixtor...), select the layer (or several), use "Ctrl + shift + C" and select the second option. the layer is then replaced by a new untouched layer of the clip. that clip links to the edited original clip (which kind of hides under it).
In PS speech: you merge the layers, but have access to the unmerged layers
I needed it to use tracking on time stretched clips and also in combination with twixtor

How to get iMovie 11 to record sound from external mic

I'm using iMovie 11 and have an external video camera attached (this works fine) and an external high quality USB mic.The mic shows in the Systems Preferences and is checked. The mic also shows in the iMovie menu and is checked. However when I import video, iMovie defaults the sound track to the internal mic. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be. I'm using OS10.6.8 on Powerbook Intel Core2

You must do this the right way.
• EXTERNAL Hard disk - MUST - be Mac OS Extended formatted
Nothing else will do - for VIDEO !
• The Moving of Event's and Project's - Must be done within the iMovie Application
Folders named iMovie Event's and iMovie Project's - can not be moved via Desktop/Finder - as links back to iMovie will break and can not be mended.
My general note on this:
Moving Event's and Project's
Connection - Either connect one Mac in Target mode to the other via FireWire. Or use an external hard disk !
(Target-Mode - Start one Mac e.g. laptop - BUT keep T-key down during full up-start - Now a FW-symbol is jumping around the screen and it will work as an external hard disk when connected to the other Mac)
A. The External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work for Video. UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange works for most other things but not for Video whatever program is used (iMovie or FinalCut)
B. Should be a FireWire one as USB/USB2 performs badly to me and especially when filling up
C. Do never Move or Alter any folder named
• iMovie Event's - or -
• iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - as this will result in iMovie losing connections to them and repair can be anything from hard to impossibly.
D. Moving and Copying must be done within iMovie application and Events to Events - and - Project's to Project's.
E. Moving Project's to Event's - Do not work for me - I have to export project as a QuickTime movie then Import this into Events.
Event's window can show two faces

Few things to clarify first :
1 - How do you define week number ?
Oracle has 2 different way for week number : normal week number (WW) and isoweek (IW).
is your weeknumber one of those, or is it something else ?
2 - Depending on the country the week doesn't start on the same day : in France (as most of Europe I think) first day is monday, where in the USA (as far as I know) first day is sunday.

How To Add Multitrack Effects?

In the effects tab, I can't add the 3 effects listed under "Multitrack Effects" even tho I'm in the Multitrack view. How can I add them?

You have to have some audio selected before the Effects are active. Also Frequency Splitter is the only one that works on one track. For the Envelope Follower or Vocoder effects to work you have to have at least two tracks with audio on them since they need input from a second track to operate.

How to add an effect (like a filter) to a section of an entire song ?

I want to add an auto filter to just 3 bars, but those 3 bars on ALL of my tracks (Apart from the single click track).
Is this possible without adding it to every single track manually?
So I need to be able to tell the system
From Bar 10 to Bar 12 on tracks 2 to 12 add auto filter

Ive done Add Automation, and Automatic Filter is now available on the "Add Automation". (Although Frequency, Resonance, Mode, Intensity & Speed are down as 5 seperate tick boxes under Automatic Filter and I'd like to just be able to select Automatic filter and not have to change each of these 5 independently and it just work from what I have set it to manually on left hand side).
I've added points/dots to the curve during the section I need it, but this moves the filter up and down over that point AND from the very start of the song to the very end of the song.
Where does the point/dot need to be/set to at the Start of the song upto the point I want the filter to kick?
So there would be NO filter on the track from Bar 1 to end of Bar 9
Then, where does the point need to be/set to at the end of song from the end of the filtered section?
So there would be NO filter on the track from Bar 13 to end of the song?
So just to confirm I want
Bar 1 to end of Bar 9 - NO FILTER
Bar 10 to end of Bar 12 - Filter
Bar 13 to end of song - NO FILTER

Putting extra sounds in the sound effects panel

I just talked my older brother into buying a Mac. He has not owned a Mac in many years and he asked me an odd question. He says that he used to be able to add custom sound effects for alerts. For example he wants to be able to select his custom sound within the Apple Menu/System Preferences/ Sounds/ Sound Effects and select sounds that he moves into this folder.
Is this possible? Where are these sounds stored? Is there a certain type of format (.aiff/.wav/.mp3) that is recommended?

The sound should be an aiff.
If you want your custom sound to be available to all users, add it to /System/Library/Sounds (you'll need admin privileges). If you just want it for yourself, put it in ~/Library/Sounds.
