How to Add VM XP Machine to Domain Controller

Hi,
I have a Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition and its a Domain Controller / AD
in the same Server i have a Hyper-V Virtual Machine running Windows XP and installed the legacy network driver and can see the network icon on the VM and mannually entered the IP for that but i cannot promot it to my Domain can any one help me..

I take it you have a WS 2008 R2 server with Hyper-V and AD roles installed, with 1 WinXP VM.
I suppose you mean to join the XP VM to the domain, not promote it.
I recommend:
Upgrade your Hypervisor to 2012 R2
Follow best practices. Only Hyper-V role on the physical machine. Setup a dedicated VM as a DC
Use Win8.1 not XP. XP is no longer supported.
If you must use XP temporarily, no need for legacy vNIC, use the regular Network Adapter
To join the domain, is a matter of troubleshooting networking. Make sure the DNS server IP on the VM is set to the domain DNS servers and they're reachable/pingable

    You didn't say what user action should bring up the next controller. But for example, if you want an instance of AddProjectViewController to be pushed onto the nav controller's stack when the user selects a row in the table, something like this should work:
    // ProjectsController.m
    #import "ProjectsController.h"
    #import "AddProjectViewController.h"
    @implementation ProjectsController
    - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
    // Navigation logic may go here. Create and push another view controller.
    AddProjectViewController *nextController = [[AddProjectViewController alloc]
    initWithNibName:@"AddProjectViewController" bundle:nil];
    // Pass selected object info to the new view controller here. E.g.:
    // Project *project = [projectsArray objectAtIndex: [indexPath row]];
    // nextController.projectTitle.text = project.projectTitle;
    [self.navigationController pushViewController:nextController animated:YES];
    [nextController release];

  • Unable to join virtual machines to domain controller

    Hello all
    I am studying for MCSE 2012 R2 and have decided to move from VMware Esxi 5.5 to Hyper-V in Server 2012R2.
    I built the host (Server 2012r2) and so far 3 VMs (all are Server 2012R2 VMs) . I promoted one of the VMs to a Domain controller and things appear to have installed with no issue. This is what I have done so far:
    Added Static IP addresses for all VMs
    Configured each VM's DNS setting to use the DC
    When I try to join one of the virtual servers to the domain controller this is what I get.
    Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.  If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.
    The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "wolfpack.local":
    The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
    (error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
    The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.wolfpack.local
    Common causes of this error include the following:
    - The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals.
    This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:
    10.0.0.14
    - One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:
    wolfpack.local
    local
    . (the root zone)

    Hi Phil,
    I have noticed that the domain is wolfpack.local but  two VMs has another DNS suffix "home.network" .
    Please remove it and join it to domain again .

  • How to add a cloud machine as a node to existing windows fail over cluster having on-premise node in Windows server 2008 R2

    Hi All,
    We have a windows fail over cluster having one windows machine on local network as one of its node.
    I want to add a virtual cloud machine available on microsoft azure as another node to this existing cluster.
    Please suggest how to do this?
    Thanking all in advance,
    Raghvendra

    Before you even start working on the SQL side, you will need to create a Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster with no shared storage.  You can actually test that in-house.  Create a VM running 2008 R2 and cluster it with your physical (from your description,
    I am assuming physical) 2008 R2 machine. Create it with a file share witness for quorum. Then configure your environment to see that it works as expected.
    Once you know how to configure the cluster between physical and VM with a file share witness, build it to Azure.  The location of the FSW gets to be an interesting choice.  To have a FSW in Azure means that you will need another VM in Azure to
    host the file share, meaning you have two quorum votes in Azure and one in-house.  Or, you could create a file share witness on an in-house system, giving you two quorum votes in-house and one in Azure.
    In the FSW in Azure scenario, if you have a loss of the in-house server, automatic failover occurs because two quorum votes exist in Azure.  With FSW in-house, depending on the loss you have in-house, you might have to force quorum to get the Azure
    single-node cluster to run.  Loss of access to Azure reverses those scenarios.  Neither one is optimal, but it does provide some level of recoverability.

  • How to add additional email using second domain name?

    BC is currently hosting wa-cs.com and we are using email address pointing to that domain. We added wolfeassociates.com domain name to the site and now want to setup emails with that domain name in addition to the wa-cs.com. This should be simple but the option to setup does not appear available.
    Is there a solution? Thanks, Greg

    Hi Greg,
    When you create an email account on the main domain, and alias will automatically be created on the second domain as well. So, when you create [email protected], the system will automatically create an [email protected]
    Email sent to either of the two addresses will end up in the same inbox.

  • Add Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controller to Windows 2008 R2 domain

    Hi,
    Have today 2 x Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers, and domain and functional level 2008 R2.
    We now want to replace these DC`s with Windows Server 2012 R2.
    My plan is as follow
    - Install and promote a Windows Server 2012 R2 as a 3 DC`s with a temporary hostname and IP as DC3
    - Install and promote a second Windows Server 2012 R2 as a 4 DC`s with a temporary hostname and IP as DC4
    - Decomiss DC1 and remove this host. Change the IP and hostname of the new DC3 to DC1
    - Move FSMO roles from DC2 to DC1 and decomiss DC2
    - Change the IP and hostname of the new DC4 to DC2
    Will this be a ok progress ? I will offcours to have the DC`s replicate information between them before doing each task.

  • How to add an AP to a Controller

    Hello,
    I'm not familiar with the process of how to add an access point to a controller. DHCP with option 43 has been configured for the subnet where the AP will be installed. The AP has obtained an IP address and I'd like to know how to discover it on the controller and add it.
    Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Best, ~zK

    Hi Zk,
    You have to use DHCP option 43 in dhcp pool configured for AP to find out the WLC:
    option 43 hex <hexadecimal string>
    More info about DHCP Option 43: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wireless-lan-wlan/97066-dhcp-option-43.html
    I will try to keep AP and WLC on same subnet.

    i want to add an windows 2008 r2 domain controller to a open directory .
    is this possible, and replicated all users to active directory?

    Yes, You must establish a two-way trust between the central forest and user forests to enable distribution group expansion when groups from user forests are synchronized as contacts to the central forest.

  • Cant't Add Domain Controller

    We have an aging directory service deployment that began with Server 2003 and was upgrade to Server 2008 R2. A while back I remember trying to add a new 2008 R2 domain controller and it gave me some error. We have 5 domain controllers at 5 offices, all the
    major 5 roles are installed at the main office. Now I NEED to replace these servers with new 2012 R2 servers that are joined to the domain and ready to role.
    And the error hath returned...
    (And first off, I have raised domain functionality to 2008 level via sites/domains MMC, and prepped it years ago when I upgraded to 2008. It seems I have a really awful domain corruption issue of some kind, and I suspect the underlying DFS share for AD (sysvol)
    is possibly part of the problem.
    I am tempting to start a new domain, but I dont want to change 60+ desktops over and have all those users hate me as they will not have every single profile setting copied over (like their outlook databases that will need redownloaded, and their CAD
    settings that dont seem to copy with my hacker style profile migration process)
    So, can anyone suggest some troubleshooting tips, or is their a way to backup and restore the AD database to the new server and tell the old servers to go away? Back in the SBS days we use to do something called a swing migration, but I dont think it will
    fit this situation easily.
    Troubleshooting steps and all advise is welcome!
    Thanks,
    Andy

    As Thameur mentioned, please check your Forest Functional Level as it need to be Windows Server 2003 or higher. More details here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh994618.aspx#BKMK_FunctionalLevels

  • Windows 2012 Domain Controller NETLOGON error

    We have Sonicwall
    firewall user authentication System active since last two months. We have Windows 2012 Active directory server setup
    with around 1400 user account created. These accounts were created by using following PowerShell scripts
    Import-Module ActiveDirectory
    #Import CSV
    $csv = @()
    $csv = Import-Csv -Path C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\"College User Ac Password Details"\FE\civil.csv
    FOREACH ($Person in $csv) {
    $name = $Person.UserName
    $displayname = $Person.Name
    $path = "OU=FE,DC=comp,DC=com"
    $password = $Person.Password
    $enabled = $True
    $changePW = $False
    $description="CIVIL"
    new-ADUser -SamAccountName $name -Name $name -Description $description -DisplayName $displayname -Path $path -AccountPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString $password -AsPlainText -force) -Enabled $enabled -ChangePasswordAtLogon $changePW -PassThru}
    Above script reads an CSV file with username and passwords and create user accounts on Active Directory.
    But since today we are facing issue during authentication process. We are unable to logon to Directory server. When Sonicwall firewall tries to authenticate an user, it logged-out same user. When I checked Event logger on Windows Active Directory server it
    shows following message.
    The dynamic registration of the DNS record 'ForestDnsZones.comp.com. 600
    IN A 192.168.0.12' failed on the following DNS server:
    DNS server IP address: 216.37.64.6
    Returned Response Code (RCODE): 5
    Returned Status Code: 9017
    For computers and users to locate this domain controller, this record must be registered in DNS.
    USER ACTION
    Determine what might have caused this failure, resolve the problem, and initiate
    registration of the DNS records by the domain controller. To determine what might have
    caused this failure, run DCDiag.exe. To learn more about DCDiag.exe, see Help and
    Support Center. To initiate registration of the DNS records by this domain
    controller, run 'nltest.exe /dsregdns' from the command prompt on the domain
    controller or restart Net Logon service. Or, you can manually add this record to DNS,
    but it is not recommended.
    ADDITIONAL DATA
    Error Value: DNS bad key.
    Above log entry talks about DNS issue. But I did non configured any DNS server on this machine.Authentication was working fine for last
    two months , but suddenly from today we are facing above issue. Kindly help me out in resolving this issue.

    hi,
    Im not sure of you setup and don't understand where your sonic wall comes in.
    The error with the DNS is that the server is trying to register its DNS entries in the server with the public IP address
    216.37.64.6  which I am assuming is your ISP's DNS server?
    How is the DNS configured on your domain controller? The domain controller should point to it'self as it's preffered DNS server.

  • Need to delete Transport system , which is not domain controller

    I need to delete transport system on machine which is not domain controller .
    our domain controller system is not avalible now .
    how can i delete the transport system on my machine as domain controller system is not avaliable .
    Please let me know what can i do ??
    Thanks,
    Asc

    Hi,
    Logon to any system which is in your transport path in client 000. Then in stms, go to Overview ---> Systems. Here you can find all the systems in your transport path. You can also find the domain controller which you have configured as before.
    Now, goto Extras----> Delete TMS Configuration.
    After deleting, logon to system which you want to make as domain controller in client 000. when you execute stms, now it will ask for new stms setup, which you might be aware of.
    If you need more guidance, let me know.
    Thanks,

  • Domain Controller Logon Users Count

    Hi Guys,
    I am trying to retrieve a list or numbers of users that are authenticated against a particular Domain Controller. I ran the following command but no luck.
    3.21 Finding the Number of Logon Attempts Made Against a Domain Controller
    Problem
    You want to find the number of logon requests a domain controller has processed.
    Solution
    The following query returns the number of logon requests processed:
    > nltest /server:<DomainControllerName> /LOGON_QUERY
    This will produce output similar to the following:
    Number of attempted logons: 1054
    I recently configured sites within my domain, Now i am after statistics that tell me how many users got authenticated by a domain controller.

    You can try to run this:
    $users = Get-ADUser -filter * -properties lastlogon -Server Server1
    foreach ($user in $users)
    $info = "" + $user.sAMAccountName + ";" + [DateTime]::FromFileTime($user.lastlogon) + ""
    $info
    Just replace Server1 with the name of your DC. You will then get the list of all the users with their
    lastlogon attribute value on this DC. By filtering the users by this attribute value, you will be able to get the list of users that have recently authenticated against this DC.

  • SCCM 2012 - How to add domain id to local administrator group of all clients

    SCCM 2012 - How to add domain id to local administrator group of all clients
    Hi,
    i have a domain id sccmadmin which is a part of domain admins group too.
    Need to add this ID to the local administrators group of all clients. How do I do this? Please help!

    Hi ,
    you need to choose the second option .
    First option will remove all the domains users from the local administrator group available in all the PC'S .Then local administrator group will only have the users updated on the members list present in group policy.
    Note : Local admins accounts on the local administrators groups will not be removed.
    Second option will add the newly created group to the local administrator group in all the PC'S and it will not remove the existing members in the local administrators group.
    Step 1 : Just try to create one new group for SCCM management .
    Step 2 : Then add the SCCM account to that group.
    Step 3 : Then please create a new group policy on that just choose the second option.On that option just add the newly created group to be an member of administrator group in all the PC'S
    Why i have asked you to create a new group ?
    Because in second option , we don't have a option to add a individual user .
    Once you have created a group policy it will like below snap.
    As an additional i will tell how to find the newly created group policy is applying to computer objects or not ans also i will tell you how to force update the group policy
    1.gpresult /r ----> To find the which group policy is applying on user and computer object .
    2.rsop.msc ----> There you can able to find the change has been applied or not .
    3.gpupdate /force -----> Forcefully updating the group policy in a client machine
    4.In gpmc.msc there is one option called group policy results .That option will be used for centralized management to find the policies that are applied to a user and computer account.
    5.Just check the event viewer in all the PC'S for group policy related events.
    Most importantly you need to make sure all the computer accounts are placed in an ou ,where the newly created group policy is applying and also make sure that OU doesn't contain any inheritance block.
    Please feel free to reply me if you have any queries.
    Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham
