How to adjust bounding box?

Hello,
I already googelt a lot, but could not find a solution to my problem. Well, the thing is I have created some .eps images in various other programs. Now I want to 'place' them into a InDesign document, in order to combine them into a multi-panel picture.
Well, the images have white background, i.e. the bounding box does not fit the visual content of the images. How can I adjust the size of the bounding box to match only the visible parts of the picture?
I really found no hint for something like "select bounding box" or "adjust bounding box". Resizing the brown frame (I think this IS the bounding box, correct?) always resizes the figure itself, which is not what I want, because the white background at the sides causes distortions of the proportions of the visible image.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Sebastian

I was quite tickled with it myself...  As is to be expected it uses the old frame though, so for example if you've placed something to the trim box, but then want to include the bleeds it's not much use as it'll shrink it at the same time.  I can't see how you could make it understand that you want it the original size, not shrunk.
This is when another script I have comes in useful, to save you having to navigate to the correct place for that file, you select something and run it and it places from the parent folder of that object.  Forget where I found it though....

  • How to create bounding box over part of path

    Hi,
    need to create a bounding box over part of path as done by Wade ; http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-4305034-180560/Screen+Shot+2012-03 -31+at+6.01.24+PM.png
    tnx,

    The other two posters are absolutely correct.
    But you have two choices to do what you want as far as I know since your path is not an effect as mine was.
    You can use the scissor tool to cut the segment you want to be able to select. I assume you want to move it or rotate it or perhaps resize it or a combination of those.
    If you need the original path to remain intact you can take the lasso tool and select that segment of the path and do a copy and then a paste in front and you will have a copy of that segment sitting on top of the original segment which will still be part of the original path.
    If you intend to alter the segment and then rejoin it to the original path then use the scissor tool approach.

  • Bounding box adjustment

    I have a black and white logo that is 5 sided and shaped like a diamond with a flat top, angled sides converging to a point at the bottom. When I print over a coloured background, the logo appears inside a white rectangle. How do I adjust the bounding box to fit the shape of the logo please?

    Hello! you did not state on what program you try to assemble it to print it over a colored background.
    I would

    2b) save the file in PSD, or any format that supports transparency, (PNG, for instance) then place the file in another program. (if that's what you are doing.)

  • How do I get rid of the dotted line on right side of bounding box

    Ever since I upgraded to CS5, I seem to have a broken dotted line along the right side of the bounding box of the png logo that was created for my company.  It wasn't there before. I've gone back to my original back up of the logo and this broken line is in all the versions now.
    Whenever I use the artwork a single dash/dotted line is left on the far right, where the right vertical line of the bounding box would have been. You can see it in the image below on the right.  Its a faint white line but when printed on a banner its stark white.  The line falls just above the last "A" in Alberta.
    I can use Illustrator and Photoshop basics and but have trouble when I get into problems like this.
    Can anyone help me figure out why its there and how to get rid of it?
    I would appreciate any help!
    Thanks.

    Wade and Monica,
    Thanks for your help.
    Wade, it hit me when you asked "why is it a png" file and I realized that I was using the wrong file.  Sometimes its hard to see the forest for the trees!  Problem for banner artwork fixed and I have now used the correct logo file so no more dotted line.
    The dotted line only appears on the the png version of the logo.  There's no coloured background on the logo file.  She gave me the file as both an eps and a png file. I'm pretty sure she created the logo in Illustrator.  I've been using the png file for the website, which is what I thought it worked well for.  And the eps one for my print materials.
    I have no clue why I grabbed the png instead of the eps logo file I usually use, but thanks for pointing out the obvious since I wasted time trying to fix it and was getting very frustrated at what had suddenly gone "wrong".
    I still have that dotted line on the png file of the logo but I'll have to figure that out another day.
    Thanks again!

  • How to get bounds of bounding box of text item.

    Hi all,
    I am trying to get the bounds of bounding box of paragraph text item. I found the following link,
    the coordinate of a bounding box is the same as the layer's coordinate?
    But the solution doesn't work for me. It gives me the layer's bound every time i.e. the bounds of actual text.
    Can someone have any idea how to accomplish this?
    Thanks.

    It's a known "not trivial". You have layer.textItem.width/height, but they don't always report correct values. I.e. if the layer or doc has been resized, those values are missing scale multipliers. Worse it's works differently wrong in different versions of CC and Mac/Win. What I use is below (with some utility functions missing), but it's just CC 2012 and 2014 (CS6 is just bounds).
    Alternatively you can get this stuff on Action Manager only, but I'm not familiar enough and let other comment on it.
    Photoshop = {

  • How to change size of text bounding box in FW CS5?

    I can't find anywhere how to make the text bounding box the same size as the text within it.  Something got switched in my FW so that now every new text box is about 3x or more higher than the text typed inside.  How to change this?
    https://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/645181/Screen+Shot+2014-06-07+a t+2.44.37+PM.png

    Moving the text box is the only thing a user can do with it.  The size can't be changed.  You can create a custom page with the same background and add any sized text area you'd like.  This tutorial describes how: 19 - Creating a Custom Page, with the Theme's Background for an iPhoto Book.

  • WinRT - how to add an image that scales based on bounding box?

    I have an image I want want to put on my map and have it scale based on the zoom level. If this had the same API as the WPF version, I could add a MapPolygon and use an ImageBrush.
    How can this be accomplished with the Bing.Map on an Windows Store application?
    This is how I am adding the image (and a Polygon to show the bounding box):
    imageLayer.Children.Clear();
    MapLayer.SetPosition(_vm.RadarImage, new Location(_vm.Overlay.LatN, _vm.Overlay.LonW));
    imageLayer.Children.Add(_vm.RadarImage);
    shapeLayer.Shapes.Clear();
    var rect = new MapPolygon();
    rect.Locations.Add(new Location(_vm.Overlay.LatN, _vm.Overlay.LonW));
    rect.Locations.Add(new Location(_vm.Overlay.LatS, _vm.Overlay.LonW));
    rect.Locations.Add(new Location(_vm.Overlay.LatS, _vm.Overlay.LonE));
    rect.Locations.Add(new Location(_vm.Overlay.LatN, _vm.Overlay.LonE));
    rect.FillColor = Colors.Green;
    shapeLayer.Shapes.Add(rect);
    map.SetView(new LocationRect(new Location(_vm.Overlay.LatN + 0.0001, _vm.Overlay.LonW + 0.0001), new Location(_vm.Overlay.LatS - 0.0001, _vm.Overlay.LonE - 0.0001)));Here's the image scaled close to accurate.
    If you zoom out, the image stays the same size, but the Rect and Tiles scale.

    The WP8 map control doesn't have this functionality, however it is possible to calculate these values. First you will need the tile math code from here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb259689.aspx
    Once you have this you will then need to take the top left coordinate of the map. Since there is no Bounds property or some other nice property to get this information you will need to use the center of the map and convert it to a global pixel coordinate
    using the LatLongToPixelXY method. Once you have this you can offset the value to get the top left corner global pixel coordinate by subtracting the x by width/2 and the Y by height/2.
    Next use the LatLongToPixelXY  method on the top left and bottom right corners of your bounding box. This will give you global pixel coordinates. You will now want to convert them to local pixel coordinates by subtracting the top left map corner pixel
    coordinates from  the X and Y values you just calculated for your bounding box. This will result in the pixel coordinates you need to position your image on the canvas.

    Finally got a chance to try this out on the phone. Not sure I'm doing it right. Is LevelOfDetail == ZoomLevel?
                    var level = map.ZoomLevel;
                    int outLat, outLon;
                    Microsoft.MapPoint.TileSystem.LatLongToPixelXY(
                        map.Center.Latitude,
                        map.Center.Longitude,
                        (int)level,
                        out outLat, out outLon);
                    int tlLeft = outLat / 2;
                    int tlTop = outLon / 2;
                    int brRight = outLat * 2;
                    int brBottom = outLon * 2;
    My debug output:

  • PLEASE HELP! ASAP! Where's my bounding box? I bet no one knows how to fix this?

    I'm currently trying to make a quick promo for my business, so i've purchased a template from envato.
    I've then started to replace what they say i should replace.
    I've then imported an image to replace the default one that you can see in the first attached image below.
    The imported photo which is not seen needs to be resized by using the bounding box to suit my area given.
    But everytime i double click the image, all i get is a picture with a time ruler at the base of it and no bounding box.
    Can anyone help me please??????????????

    Really?  Go to the menu and select View>Show/Hide Layer Controls or press Ctrl/Cmnd + Shift + H
    If you save a project with them turned off then when you re-open the project they will still be turned off.
    The info is right there in the menu and in the help files and in the keyboard shortcuts. If you search here:

  • How do you not align with the biggest bounding box?

    This is driving me up the wall, I know a way around it, but at some point later in this project the work around won't be efficient enough.
    Ok here is the problem, I have four objects that are going to be large oversized buttons on a website. Inside these buttons (which are square) I have placed a picture, as the picture is larger than the button area I have duplicated the button box and made it a clipping mask for the picture. I have aligned it all up and grouped everything for one button together as one big group. I have done this for each button, so now all buttons are made up of a group of objects.
    The problem is because these images are too big for the buttons and I have clipped them there bounding box is bigger than the buttons so when I come to align them or distribute them it all goes wrong. Why? Well the distribution/alignment goes on the combined area bounding box, in this case the pictures are much bigger so it's pretty much there bounding boxes that everything is getting aligned with. In InDesign it treats the bounding boxes of objects within a clipping mask as being the size of the clipping mask, which is exactly what I want to do here. This seems a massive limitation and I can't see why I would ever want to distribute or align with something that I am effectivly removing from the document.
    The work around is quite simple, I can take everything out of the button boxes, align the button boxes and then put everything back in the button boxes. This would be acceptable if I only had to do it once, but if (and I probably will) want to tweak the layout as I go it's going to be a pain in the rear.
    Any ideas?

    I could pre-crop the images in PS but then I loose the ease of changing them in Illustrator. I always try and do as much work as possible in Illustrator so I am able to undo or change things quickly, I am not a big fan of the finality of working with raster images.
    The real issue is that the client is comming to look at some mockups and if they ask for changes, which we usually do there and then, we will look a bit silly as we complete destruct and then re-construct each object.
    If those align scripts work how I am thinking I might make 4 place holder graphics (that I switch off when I am finished) and centre align each button to those with the scripts.
    Illustrator should just be have an option to align the visable layers or items only. I would even accept the ability that when you switch off a layer in a group (say these pictures where there bounding box goes beyond that of the clipping mask) so your only active layer is a box the same size as your clipping mask and so that is the only bounding box that gets used, but no the off layers still have active bounding boxes.

    Paul

  • How do I turn on bounding box?

    How do I turn back on selection bounding box?

    You can have a box when using the Move tool by enabling the "Show Transform Controls" option in the options bar at the top (while the tool is selected).
    You can add a box to a selection by enabling the transform controls (Control/Command+T or from the Edit menu).
    But if you are just looking for a box to surround a selection that offers no controls, this isn't a feature.

  • How can I align a text object by the visible text and NOT by its bounding box?

    Illustrator CS4.
    I am trying to align some text to the center of the artboard. The bounding box is bigger than the text, so when I try to align it to the artboard it doesn't actually center align the artwork as I need it to. The text is needing to be aligned with another text object, so I can't just center align the text and then align to the artboard (which would eliminate the bounding box problem, I think). To make matters worse, the text I want to align has a stroke.
    The only way I know to currently align the text properly is to convert it to outlines. This is what I've done, but I need something better. I want to be able to have my illustrator file that has all editable text and then be able to make a separate identical file with all text converted to outlined paths. The only thing holding me back right now is that I can't get the exact alignment while everything is still as text.

    The solution is to simple to believe and probably why you over looked it.
    You make two text frames to exactly the height and width of the text. You position the text in the relative location and then group the text frames  then center that group on the artboard.
    Like such:
    If you ever want to add text that should be no problem but you have to re center.

  • How to get shape's bounding box

    Hi!
    Like the topic says, I'm wondering if there is a way to get a shape's bounding box? Either through a query or some method in JGeometry. I suppose I could just get the coordinates and loop over them to get the min/max values, but is there some more efficient way?
    Thanks!

    Yup. That worked.
    I looked at the JGeometry documentation, but I would never have guessed that MBR stood for Minimum Bounding Rectangle if you hadn't pointed me in the right direction.

  • How Do I Get a Glyph's Bounding Box After a "glyphshow"?

    I am trying to capture the bounding box from painting a character using glyphshow, but the result seems not to be the actual bounding box.  Here is a snippet of PS code that I am trying:

    % begin snippet
    /hw llx urx add .5 mul def
    0 hw sub 0 moveto /glyphname glyphshow
    % end snippet
    For the glyph I'm using the result is not centered ("d.begin", font: Adobe Bickham Script Bold).  Note the glyph is a very slanted cursive 'd' with the upper right part extending well over adjacent characters to its right.
