How to adjust local brightness and contrast in Premiere Elements 12 ?

For example, in still photo, I know how to apply Photoshop to balance the brightness/contrast between a bright windows facing garden and people chatting in living room next to the bright windows. Just wondering if APE 12 is able to balance the local brightness/contrast in video editing, and how ?  or I have to go for Première Pro ?

Do you currently own or have any version of Premiere Elements, and what computer operating system is involved?
Assuming your interest to be in Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit....
Export workspace/Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/and a variety of panels including Lighting.
The panels are:
Smart Fix
Auto Smart Tone
Color
Color (RGB)
Gamma Correction
Lighting
Temperature and Tint
The Lighting options are as shown in the following screenshot
Under the fx Effects tab in the Expert workspace, you may be interested in
Advanced Adjustments category/Image Control with its options for Brightness, Contrast, Hue, and Saturation
or
Advanced Adjustments category/Shadow/Highlight
Once you apply the effect, you can edit it in Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/and expanded Panel for the effect.
If you do not have Premiere Elements 12 already, you may want to download and install the free 30 day tryout to determine if the program is compatible with your computer and meets your video editing needs.
The following Adobe document Effects Reference may be of interest. Although written with version 11 model, many of the effects are applicable to version 12 as well. Just be careful if you are a Mac user. There are several Windows Only features.

  • Adjusting screen brightness and contrast on Satellite L550-113

I am a visually impaired user and I'm thinking of purchasing the Satellite L550-113, but before I do that I need to be sure that the screen brightness/contrast can be adjusted very easily, preferably via hardware controls as opposed to via the control panel. I also need to be sure that one can make the screen quite dull (i.e. too dull for a non-disabled user).
Could anyone give advice on how to adjust the screen contrast and brightness on the Toshiba L550-113? Also, does the screen have a glossy or matt finish?
Any general information on the quality and ease of use of the screen will be extremely useful and highly appreciated! Thank you.

    Hi mate!
Yes, the screen brightness can easily adjust via FN keys. You have to press FN+F7 to increase the screen brightness and FN+F6 to reduce the screen brightness. Furthermore in Vista power management you can also adjust the screen brightness and save the settings for different power profiles and on batter or on power mode.
As far as I know Satellite L550 has a gloss finish screen as other Satellite notebooks.
I hope I could help you a little bit! :)

  • How to set brightness and contrast of video please

Hi, how can I set brightness and contrast of video in OSMF please?
I tried add filters to MediaContainer and VideoSurface of VideoElement, but doesn't work.

I think I find the reason, OSMF uses StageVideo other than Video when StageVideo is available. StageVideo doesn't support filters or mask.
So the answer would be no way unless I switch back to Video.

  • Why do the brightness and contrast tools disappear

I just finished developing a set of photos. When I went to my next set, some of the functionality was missing namely the brightness and contrast tools. I am using lightroom 5. Why is this happening?

The images where brightness and contrast sliders are available were probably imported into Lightroom in an earlier version (probably Lr3). Back then the adjustment sliders were built around 'Process Version 2010'. When Lr4 was launched it included an updated and significantly more flexible set of adjustments sliders. This new set of adjustments is known as Process Version 2012, and is the current set of adjustments in Lr5. The images you try to edit that don't have access to brightness and contrast were probably first imported into Lr4 or Lr5. You can read more about PV2012 here Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.0 Feature Overview The overview also provides information on how to convert back and forth between PV2010 and PV2012.

  • Brightness and contrast buttons on monitor is not working

I have a lenovo 3000H series desktop. Suddenly the brightness and contrast button on the monitor has stopped working. Please help.

Yes, I did restore it twice plugging it on the computer and using itunes and the hold/sleep/power off button wont still respond.
No matter how long I push it, it won't do anything so the screen or device won't shut off.
    Everything else is working fine.

  • Control of brightness and contrast of HP Pavilion G4-1310au

Hello. I just got a new HP Pavilion G4-1310au.  My problem is that it did not have any OS installed and so no system drivers were installed either.   In the box I only got a CD that has HP manual in it and nothing else and the notebook  of course, the power cord, bag, and some printed manual.  I was expecting to see a System Disk CD so I could install the system drivers, but I didn't find one.
So I installed the OS and then installed the network driver which I downloaded from another computer and also the audio.  My problem is that I cannot find a laucher that would help me control the brightness and contrast of the screen.  I tried FN key plus F3 or F2 keys but it didn't work.
Anybody can help me how I can control the brightness and contrrast or better yet if there is a Launcher software where  I can control all the features of this notebook? By the way, I don't know how to enable the bluetooth either.
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Different look in brightness and contrast in Color as in FCP

    Hello,
I've got a problem since the last pro applications update. Since then my clips got a different look in brightness and contrast in color as in FCP.
If I send a clip from FCP to color, it looks more dark with higher contrast. If I send it back to FCP you can see the made changes, but the brightness is higher and contast lower again. And I mean a huge differnce between the both programs.
Before, it was like identical. So, in the moment, it is difficult to make exact changes and the worklow is not so efficent anymore.
Has anyone the same problems or an idea to solve the problem?

That tech note specifically discusses how FCP's assumption about RGB files forces it to handle their gamma differently than "YUV" based file formats.
    Relevant bit:
Final Cut Pro assumes that QuickTime movies for codecs that support the YUV color space (including DV, DVCPRO 50, and the 8- and 10-bit Uncompressed 4:2:2 codecs) are created with a gamma of 2.2. This is generally true of movies captured from both NTSC and PAL sources. When you eventually output the sequence to video, or render it as a QuickTime movie, the gamma of the output is identical to that of the original, unless you've added color correction filters of your own.
*However, during playback on your computer's monitor, Final Cut Pro automatically lowers the gamma of a sequence playing in the Canvas to 1.8 for display purposes. This is to approximate the way it will look when displayed on a broadcast monitor. This onscreen compensation does not change the actual gamma of the clips in your sequence.*
So what's displayed in the Canvas is an approximation of the "correct" gamma and relies on many assumptions about the media that may not be accurate.

  • Brightness and Contrast Import Defaults

When I import NEFs from a D200, LR gives it a brightness +50 and contrast +25. The photos look pretty good with that setting, but LR instructions suggests to first adjust exposure, recovery, and blacks before futzing with brightness and contrast. So, 1. why does LR do that in the first place, and 2. would I be better off making a preset that starts brightness and contrast at zero, and first do the ex, rec, and black settings?
Also, I was taught never to use the brightness and contrast settings in PS.. are the LR settings fundamentally different?
    thanks
    Michael

Is there a way to change these defaults? For eg. I'd like to have the default shadows=0, default vibrance=10, default sharpening=0, etc.
I know you can specify a develop preset on import, but I like being able to tell which files are at "default" settings, and which ones I've worked on individually.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

  • Brightness and Contrast Issue on Calibration

I've started having migraine issues the last few years. On one machine I have, I wanted to create a few different monitor calibration sets, so that I could switch between sets that were for accurate work, and then sets that were lower in brightness and color temp, which would be easier on my head. I'm using 10.5.8 and an external ViewSonic. I just now realized, that the contrast and brightness settings seem to be overridden by the monitor. In other words... Say that you go to calibrate... You start off by manually setting the contrast and brightness, then adjust all the other settings and save the calibration. If you are using that calibration set and manually change the brightness and/or contrast... clicking on any calibration set, will NOT return the brightness and contrast to the settings you had them at, for that saved calibration set. ie: There's basically only one brightness and contrast setting you can have, at any given time, no matter what calibration set you’re running.
This doesn't seem right. Has it always been like this?

Hi Dave, see if this might be of use...
Go to System Preferences > Universal Access and down in the Display: section make sure that the Enhance contrast: slider is all the way to left to Normal, or more to the right for less Contrast.

  • My friend doesn't have to render brightness and contrast, why do I?

    How is everybody doing?
I am new to Final Cut Pro 7 but I have been working on it for a couple  of Months. A friend of mines has been editing for a couple of years and  he's pretty much teaching me a lot of the basics.
I have encountered a problem that me nor him can find a solution.
You see, for some weird reason, with his Final Cut Pro 7, he can add the  filter "Brightness and Contrast" to his clips and doesn't have to  render it at all. However, when I try to do it, I have to render (and my  video is long so rendering is going to take forever).
I want to know if there is anything that I am missing or anything I need  to change on Final Cut Pro so I don't have to render when using the  filter "Brightness & Contrast".
    Please let me know, thanks!

Make sure you're not comparing apples to oranges.  Do both his and your Mac have the exact same specs?  System resources has a lot to do with which filters will playback without rendering (in real time) and which won't.  And as MtD indicates, are you both using the same codec for editing?  Some video formats work natively in FCP and won't need much rendering ... formats that don't work natively in FCP will require much more rendering.  Also make sure that clip settings match the Sequence settings exactly.
Check every aspect of both systems and media; if everything is the same, then you may have a mystery ... but chances are you're simply comparing apples to oranges.

  • The Best Brightness and contrast for my monitor

I have an acer monitor AL2016W. I managed to get it too work but the screen is too bright. What is the best brightness and contrast for it? I have a resolution of 1850 x 1250, can I safely change that on my mac mini? Thank you for yuor help.

If you are using windows 8 - go to the start screen and just start typing Power.
When you start typing in, "Just Type" kicks in and starts searching for what you are typing, The default is to look for applications, but the power options you need are under settings.
So Click on Settings, and you'll see power options on the left.
Click Power Options and once you get to there, you should see a slider on the bottom of the window to change the brightness, I added a screen shot for you.
