How to adjust shared video memory size - R10/R600 Win7 Prof 32bit

Hi,
I use two laptops in business - R600 and R10. Both with Intel 4500 graphic card and shared video memory. Both win Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. In both cases system reserves 1159MB for video memory. As I don't play any games I have no need to waste such a huge memory amount - I would like to free as much as possible for system and programs.
For trial purposes I installed Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. Surprisingly it reserves only 199MB for video memory - so it looks like OS issue.
Does anybody know how can I decrease the video memory size in Windows 7 32bit?
Regards,
pab 567

As far as I know this cannot be done manually and shared memory is controlled by system.
If you dont use it for gaming I dont see any problem there. I dont know what kind of activity you do with your notebook but I cannot imagine there is no enough memory for every day activities.
Is there not enough power for certain operations or what?

  • How to disable Shared Video Memory on Qosmio X870?

    Hi,
I find that when I use certain software packages (mainly CAD) then my video ram remains untouched. I cant seem to disable the shared system memory - which I believe is part of Nvidia Turbocache.
Some websites and forums say that one can disable this in the BIOS is the manufacturer has released a BIOS drivers which would allow this - this does not seem to be the case at Toshiba.
Is there another way I would be able to disable this setting. This Toshiba Qosmio x870 was purchased as we needed a notebook with a high end (class 1) graphics card. Unfortunately it seems to be under performing.
I have tried to set all setting in the Nvidia control panel to Max Performace but I am still not getting the software (Micromine) to run properly.
I would appreciated any suggestions or support from this form.
    Kind Regards,
    Jrgen

Yea I know what you mean. Toshiba support for these kind of issues seems non existent. I think this kind of problem can also be attributed to the way Nvidea optimus tech runs on laptops. It controls which graphics chip is being used i.e between on board and dedicated and has been know to cause issues in some programs - maybe something to look into?
Sorry you can't fix it :( I'm no guru and I'm out of ideas unfortunately....
    Good luck!

  • Shared Video Memory Configuration?

    I have a laptop Lenovo B490 5935-6014, Intel Core i3 3110m, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000, using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
How to adjust shared video memory? I think shared video memory is too large (1696MB).
I tried going to BIOS setup and I saw nothing about that...
    Can you help me???
    Sorry for my poor English
    Thanks.

    hi AnonymousK,
    Welcome to the Forums.
When you check system properties, are you getting a Total Memory: 4GB (2328GB Usable) or similar?
    - if this is your case, the problem might lie on the system's BIOS. By default, the system automatically allocates all the physical RAM that it could use but if you have integrated graphics, this BIOS automatically share and allocate some of the RAM to the GPU to improve its performance.
    - If you don't have a memory remmaping feature in the BIOS that controls how much RAM is allocated to the GPU, this is most likely a limitation of the system.
Another thing is the Physical Address Extension (PAE) that the OS uses to utilize system memory. Since you're using a 64bit version of Windows, this feature is already enabled. In some cases, you need to use a PAE Patch to correct the total memory reported above.
    Best regards,
    neokenchi

  • How to increase the shared video memory on Portege M100

I have a Portege M100 and I would to increase the shared video memory. In the technical documentation: shared video memory 16-64MB
    I have 768MB of RAM
but can't do it in the Bios or Windows.
where i can do it ?
(i'm french, sorry for the bad english)

    Hi
I have also noticed that on units with Intel graphic chard it is not possible to ser shared memory usage manually and it works automatically. On units with ATI graphic card manual selection is possible.
Why is 16 MB in usage and not more, about that we can just speculate. If you want try to check Intel page. As far as I know they have very good explanations for own technology. Maybe you will find something there.

  • How do you increase shared video memory?

I own an iMac with 256mb of shared video memory and have been dying to find a way of making the computer use more of my 8gb of RAM for video memory than it currently is (specifically for an improved gaming performance). Does anyone know of a way? Thanks in advance.

Shared video memory? What's that?  Your computer has ram, your video card has ram.  You can change the amount of ram in your computer.  But your video card is what it is.  It cannot be changed.
I think what your want is more ram for your computer.  Go to OWC to see possible choices for your model.  You don't have to buy there if you don't want (but I always recommend them).  But at least you will see what choices are available to you.

  • Shared video memory is not wrking!

Hello, I just purchased the HP Pavillion dv7-1135nr, with the "ATI radeon HD 3500" graphics card with shared video memory and 2.0 ghz amd turion x2. Since the shared video memory can go up to 2 gb, I figured it would play half life 2 with ease. But I was wrong, it is lagging when I play the game! can you please tell me a way to increase the video memory manually? Thanks a lot for your help.

Well I have posted this many times over the years but the basic mistake is to equate video storage with video power. All the video memory in the world does not help if the video engine is not powerful enough to move the pixels.
    Check This
The ATI Radeon HD 3200 (not 3500) that you have is a low power video chip. You are not the first to make this maistake and typically the sales people at Best Buy, etc. and even the advertising does not make it really clear that you are getting a business and entertainment video system, not for gaming.

  • K9N2 Diamond: Shared video memory, how to disable?

As on subject: I can see the entry in the bios settings and I can choose the memory amount to share, but I can't disable it (entry is gray and unselectable) and even if I try to set other values than 256M the values resets to it when I save changes to cmos.
In addition windows recognize 512M of ram (which is the maximum value selectable in bios settings about shared memory) less then it would do: I have 4Gb of ram and 2 8800GT 512M: total system ram is 5G. Windows 32 bit see 2,5G of system ram, to reach 4Gb (the maximum overall memory size recognizeble by a 32-bit os) i miss 1,5G, 1 by the graphic boards and the other 512M...I bet is the shared memory. I would disable it so to free up 512M of system ram is there a way to do it?

If you're not able to change the share memory to none, go to on chip VGA in bios and disable it

  • How do I manage Video Ram size

    Hello,
I would like to ask how do I adjust the size of video ram in OSX and windowsXP. I have read someone's post saying that it is not user changeable in OSX. if it is not changeable, when will it changeable to a larger size? How about in windowsXP? Is it also unchangeable?
    Thanks a lot,

You are aware that video RAM is a physical factor while "OS X" or "Windows XP" are software operating systems. The system you use plays no role in how large your video RAM is. If you want to adjust your video RAM usage, go to the monitor control panel and change the resolution and color depht.
If, on the other hand, what you were trying to say was that some laptops that run on Windows allow you to upgrade them with physical video RAM, I guess it must be so. The Macbook doesn't allow this and uses shares video RAM which, to my understanding, means that it uses a part of the main RAM for video.

  • Export to Flash how to adjust the video size from 640 to 320

Is there a way to change the size of the Flash video when exporting from Encore? The only setting I see is the quality drop down from low to ultra. Even on low it exports as a 640 by 480 video. Is there a way to change it to 320 by 240? Or is it determined by the size of the mpegs?
    TIA
    Dirk

Actually I have been playing around with this stuff today, here is what you do:
After you create the flash file with your index.html and swf and ect you can go into the HTML file and change the setting from 640x40 to 320x240. You can also create skins and stuff in there too using your HTML editor or manually playing with it yourself in Notepad like I do.

  • How to adjust a "control array" size

I have a program that creates a digital PWM signal with variable duty cycle. The duty cycle changes every 50 ms, but the overall wave frequency stays at a frequency determined by the user. I have the VI attatched.
My problem is this...I need to be able to control the overall cycle time. This means the size of my array of duty cycles needs to adjust based on the cycle time (i.e. a cycle time of 1 second would require 20 of the 50 ms slots, while a 1.3 second cycle would need 26).
I currently have only 4 slots in my array, meaning the total cycle time is .2 s. I understand how to manually add and remove elements to the array, but I can't figure out how to add a control to it so that the array size changes automatically, allowing much quicker entry of data. As of now I can make it work, it just takes super long to add or delete array elements. The ideal situaton would have a constant control for cycle time divided by 50 that would change the array size.
I can't find any info on this, and I think I even saw a post asking that this kind of feature be added. I'm relatively new to this program.
    Thanks

Currently, your VI is a one-shot deal. What you need is a state machine that updates the pct duty cycle array control as a function of the frequency while the current I/O code is idle.
I would use an array of clusters, where each cluster contains e.g. a sequence number, a duty cycle, and a string as element label. Show the scrollbar and set the size whenever the relevant inputs change. Do you want to reset the current setting when the number changes or do you want to retain the current settings as much as possible? You could just use the existing values, reshape to the larger or smaller size, and write it back to the control via a local variable. Set all elements  except the percent to disabled so they act as indicators and cannot be changed by the user.
(You also need to program around it if the operator tries to manually add more elements. A better solution would be this idea, so vote for it .)
Some more general comments bout your code:
Why do you use extended precision floating point. All your waits are internally just integers. EXT makes no sense
There is a primitive for 1/x. However, you could just do a 1000/x and eliminate the multiplication afterwards. SInce you are dealing with integers, you can even do the division using quotient&remainder. Depending on the allowed frequency range there are possibly no orange data needed at all.
Make the diagram constant representation match the rest of the code.
The pulses/50ms indicator belongs before the loop. No need to recalculate and refresh it over and over from the same input values.

  • Help! How to change the video frame size during RTP transmission

    Hi there.
    In a RTP transmission:
How can I change the size of the frames of the video while I have the processor in the server running?
i.e. while the server is running, i want to change a video from 400x200 to 200x100
    Thanks

I am trying to implement the same functionality. I've tried to reset the format using the trackControl.setFormat method but this only appears to be supported while the processor is in a configured state. I'm still investigating, but if you happen to know a solution please let me know.
Here is what I'm trying to do... In the middle of a session, I'm trying to change the video format from h263/rtp:352x288 to h263/rtp:176x144

  • Mac Mini 'shared' video memory?

I'm strongly considering a Mac Mini. I recently picked up a G4 eMac and fell pretty hard for it but want an affordable step up from a G4 'cause I'm a (soon to be ex) PC 'power' user and require a certain amount of zap-zing-pow for the price. The Mac Mini says 256mb shared memory for its nVidia 9400 video hardware. Does this mean it uses 256mb of system memory? IE - a 2gb Mac Mini is really 1.8gb because 256mb is being used for video?

That is correct. However, Apple says that the mini supports 4 GB of RAM. 3rd parties report that it supports 8 GB of RAM. YMMV.
What do you mean by "power user"?

  • How can I reduce video file size?

I have a WMV file (4.6 MB) that has a bad sound track. I started a new Premiere project and placed the MP4 file, split the audio track, and used Audition to fix the problems with the sound.
Then I opened the file in Media Encoder (2014) and I've tried numerous settings to export the file as MP4, AVI, or WMV. My exported WMV is 40MB. The MP4 is 108MB. The AVI was over 1GB.
I've tried reducing the frame rate to 10fps. I've used various HD 720p presets. No matter what I do, the smallest file I've been able to create is 10 times the size of the original.
    Clearly I'm doing something wrong.
I know a fair amount about audio, but very little about video. After several hours of searching online resources, all I have is more questions.
It's there a Media Encoder for Dummies section?
    Thanks.

Thanks, Joost, but I see no setting for bandwidth. Here's what I see and the resulting (11 minute) file is 76 MB when the source file was less than 5MB. Output is down to 10fps and audio is mono and downsampled to AM-radio quality. Clearly I am not seeing something that I should see.
