How to administer an Access database via web-based interface?

There are times when I need to edit a database record to do something my CMS wasn't designed to do, so I have to manually edit it. Normally I just ftp the Access mdb file to my pc, make edits, and reupload the mdb file and hope nobody updated the database in the meantime.  Does anyone know of a web-based database admin system that will allow me to edit Access data?  Sure would be nice if I could install something on the server that would allow me to edit any datasource there and not have to have a separate, customized interface for each datasource.
Thanks for looking, Bill

I would recommend naming that page with an extension that the web server will not serve.  Rename it to use it and then rename it back when done.
Or just put access restrictions on it via the web server, so one needs to authenticate to the system before using it.
Or stop using Access and use a decent DB: Access is not appropriate to be used as a DB for a web application.  But that might not be an option.

  • Urgent ..How to use Tree component in a web based interface

    I want to make a Java web based windows explorer type interface.
    For that i want to use tree component .
    Is it possible for me to do this.
    Can anybody suggest me how to do ?

    Hi,
    I assume you plan to do this in a browser and you plan to use JTree. When using an applet, you'd have to make sure that the latest Java Plug-In is available on the client.
    If you not plan to use JTree, you could use a Tree component which is not based on swing such as the one at http://www.calcom.de/eng/dev/cctree.htm
    In this case still the browser would have to be 'Java enabled' by any kind of plug-in

  • WRT54G V6.0 Web Based Interface Issue

    I'm trying to setup a WRT54G. I ran the SetupWizard which didn't work.
    I can access the Web Based Interface at 192.168.1.1 , but when it appears (after putting in the admin password), the page doesn't properly load. The colors and some text comes up, but all of the tabs, buttons and links are missing (including the Save Settings button). I can't get to Administration page to restore the factory defaults or upgrade the firmware.
    I've tried the pressing the reset button for 30 seconds about 100 times so far, and nothing has worked. I've tried this on 3 different computers, and my other 2 WRT54G's run properly on all of these computers.
    I bought the router about 2 years ago and I just opened the box today.
    What fixes are available?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    If you are not able to see any Tab on your router setup page, If you have any Firewall or Antivirus  installed on your computer you may disable it and then try to Login to your Router Setup page and check if you are able to see any Tabs on Routers GUI. If still not then Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable.
    If you still face the same problem, Connect your other computer to the Router and try to access the router setup page and check if you are able to see any tabs on the router setup page. If stil the same problem on the 2nd computer then you need to Upgrade the firmware of your Router using TFTP tool.
    First you need to Download 1.67 MB the Latest Firmware of your router.
    TFTP tool which you can Download 44.3 KB (It will be named as BEFW11S4-v2_SetupWizard)
     Double click the tftp.exe file and click run :
    For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
    For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
    For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
    Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
    Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now Check if you are able to Login to your Routers GUI and able to see the Tabs on it.

  • Getting SQL*Net more data from client waits when running a query through web based interface

    Hi, you all,
    We are having this weird behavior when running query through web based interface, we get a lot of "SQL*Net more data from client" waits, the OEM indicates that the current wait event is SQL*Net more data from client
    It's just a very simple query wich invokes a db link.
    When I execute the same query on any PL/SQL tool like toad or sql developer it works fine, but that query inside an application executed through a web based interface, it hangs for ever.
    Where can I start looking for the problem.
    We are working on a 3 Node RAC 11gr2, both databases are on the same RAC.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    we managed to reproduce the case in test environment, below are the steps:
    1)have 2 databases on different machines, will call the first one local, the other one remote.
    2)in the local database create:
    a - DBLink to remote database.
    b - read data from remote database(we simply used select count(*) from dummy_table )
    c - insert data into a table on the local database
    d - terminate the connection between the 2 databases (disconnect either machine from the network)
    e - commit on local database.
    what we noticed was the following:
    1)when the local database is disconnected from the network(the machine is not connected to any network at the moment): almost immediately throws an error, and issuing the following:
    select * from dba_2pc_pending;we found some data .
    2) when the remote database was disconnected(the local database is still connected to the network):
    after 7-8 seconds an error is thrown, and issuing the following:
    select * from dba_2pc_pending;did not return any data.
    since this is pretty similar to our case ,we concluded that it's a network issue.
    is this the correct behavior ?
    as a temporary solution till the network issue is fixed ,we did the following:
    1) changed the call of the remote procedure to calling a local procedure that calls the remote procedure.
    2) added pragma autonomous_transaction to the local procedure.
    3) at the end of the local procedure rollback the autonomous transaction.
    it seems that since the global transaction does not use the DBLink database does not issue a 2PC commit.
    this works in my cases since the DBLink is only issed to read data.

    As it appears, without evidence from you to the contrary that you are asking how to use Java to steal copyrighted content I would humbly suggest that you investigate, whether (a) the activity is illegal (b) whether you feel comfortable legally and ethically in helping someone steal content.
    Happily your actual Java related question is quite trivial and the fact that you had to to ask and couldn't either figure it out on your own nor find a suitable answer through searching suggests that you will be unable to provide the client with what they ask based on your current skill set. Aka the legality won't be an issue since you don't appear competent enough anyway.

  • How to reference MS Access database in ColdFusion MX 7 on 64-bit Windows

    I am migrating customers from:
    Windows 2000 Server (fully patched)
    Internet Information Services (IIS) 5
    ColdFusion 5
    to:
    Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition (fully patched)
    Internet Information Services (IIS) 6 (running in 32-bit
    mode)
    ColdFusion MX 7 (7.0.2) Standard
    Unfortunately, some of these existing customers are still
    using Microsoft Access databases instead of SQL Server. Having all
    of these existing customers migrate to SQL Server is not yet
    practical. On the old Windows 2000 / ColdFusion 5 server, they are
    using OLE DB data sources to reference the MS Access databases
    using the "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" provider. None are configured
    to use ODBC drivers when referencing MS Access or SQL Server.
    I have yet to figure out how to get ColdFusion MX 7 to:
    - Create a data source that references MS Access databases on
    64-bit Windows.
    - Reference an existing MS Access data source created with
    the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Manager on 64-bit
    Windows.
    A bit of background information regarding MS Access on 64-bit
    Windows:
    - At the time of this writing, Microsoft has not
    created/released 64-bit drivers for Microsoft Access and it's
    unlikely they ever will, for understandable reasons.
    - Contrary to seemingly popular belief, the Microsoft Jet 4.0
    Database Engine does exist on 64-bit Windows. See the following
    regarding version and file location information:
    How to obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft Jet
    4.0 Database Engine
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239114
    - You CAN create MS Access based data sources within 64-bit
    Windows, but they have to be made using the 32-bit version of "ODBC
    Data Source Manager". I'm assuming these DSNs may only be used by
    32-bit applications, but I have not tested that theory.
    32-bit data sources:
    ODBC Data Source Manager:
    %SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe
    Registry location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC
    Default file DSN directory:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources
    64-bit data sources:
    ODBC Data Source Manager:
    %SystemRoot%\system32\odbcad32.exe
    Registry location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC
    Default file DSN directory:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources
    The 64-bit version of "ODBC Data Source Manager" (under
    Administrative Tools) only show "SQL Server" and/or "SQL Native
    Client" as options when creating new data sources, unless
    third-party software is installed that supplies additional drivers.
    The 32-bit version of "ODBC Data Source Manager" (by default,
    there is no shortcut for this in the Start menu) shows the typical
    drivers seen on 32-bit versions of Windows, including SQL Server,
    SQL Native Client, Microsoft Access, Excel, FoxPro, Paradox, etc.
    When using ColdFusion Administrator in ColdFusion MX 7.0.2 in
    64-bit Windows 2003 (IIS is running in 32-bit mode to allow
    ColdFusion MX 7 to function at all), two problems are encountered
    when dealing with MS Access (and presumably other 32-bit drivers).
    In both cases, ColdFusion is trying to reference the registry
    location for 64-bit data sources instead of 32-bit:
    1. Creating a new data source within ColdFusion
    Administrator:
    Data Source Name: whatever
    Driver: Microsoft Access
    CF Data Source Name: whatever
    Database file: (physical path to whatever.mdb)
    (other settings are irrelvant for this example)
    Error generated when submitting:
    Unable to update the NT registry.
    Cannot open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC
    Data Sources: Windows error number 5 occurred.Access is denied.
    ColdFusion stores the data source, however a "verify"
    generates the following error:
    Connection verification failed for data source: whatever
    java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC
    Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error: Data source name not found and
    no default driver specified
    The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
    [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error:
    Data source name not found and no default driver specified
    2. Creating the data source using the 32-bit version of "ODBC
    Data Source Manager" then trying to reference it with ColdFusion:
    ODBC Data Source Manager:
    System DSN or File DSN:
    Name: whatever
    Driver: Microsoft Access Driver (.mdb)
    Database: (physical path to whatever.mdb)
    (creation is successful within ODBC Data Source Manager)
    Reference the above DSN within ColdFusion Administrator:
    Data Source Name: whatever
    Driver: ODBC Socket
    Error generated when submitting:
    Error accessing available odbc datasources. - Cannot open
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources:
    Windows error 2 occurred.The system cannot find the file specified.
    ColdFusion MX 7 can't find the 32-bit data source on 64-bit
    Windows because it's looking for it in the wrong registry location.
    Can ColdFusion MX 7 be configured to look in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC
    instead of
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC
    on a 64-bit Windows machine?

    Paul,
    Thanks for the insight on this. Regarding the initial problem
    I ran into with creating Access based DSNs, very early-on, I
    noticed there were two different driver options for Access
    displayed within ColdFusion MX 7 Administrator:
    Microsoft Access
    Microsoft Access with Unicode
    For reasons I'm am still baffled over, I somehow completely
    forgot about and through the wonders of apparent tunnel vision,
    completely overlooked the "Microsoft Access with Unicode" driver
    option when I was running through my tests.
    At your seemingly-obvious suggestion, I created a data source
    using the Microsoft Access with Unicode driver and it worked
    perfectly fine with the one customer's web site I'm using for
    testing (of course, this is a copy--the production site is still
    housed on the old ColdFusion 5 server). This obviously doesn't
    actually fix the underlying issue with ColdFusion looking in the
    wrong part of the registry on 64-bit Windows, but at least when it
    comes to dealing with Access databases, your suggestion of using
    the Microsoft Access with Unicode driver appears to be a functional
    work-around. So long as there aren't any surprises waiting for me,
    hopefully this will also work for the remaining ColdFusion sites I
    have to migrate that are using Access databases.
    Since you mentioned JDBC drivers in comparison with ODBC, I'm
    pointing out a couple of references in case they're helpful to
    anyone following this thread:
    ColdFusion MX 7 - About JDBC
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/00001736.htm
    Types of JDBC technology drivers
    http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/driverdesc.html
    http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/
    I don't actually develop anything in ColdFusion, so I'm
    dealing with all of this from a server administration standpoint
    since we do have some domain hosting customers that do develop or
    at least have existing ColdFusion based sites. I am all
    too-familiar with the caveats of using Access in any kind of
    production or heavily used environment and have spent years keeping
    users away from ODBC. For ColdFusion users, that meant creating OLE
    DB DSNs and often having to fix poorly written SQL statements and
    fixing ColdFusion date-related values and boolean values (the
    common problems encountered when switching CF / MS Access users
    from ODBC to OLE DB). I can only recall running into problems with
    a single SQL Server based ColdFusion site when migrating from ODBC
    to OLE DB. That customer never did get their many coding problems
    fixed, so they're the only ones still using ODBC in CF. I have no
    idea what'll happen when that one site gets migrated over--if it'll
    even work. Obviously a lot of things have changed between
    ColdFusion 5 and the MX versions that have come along afterward.
    Thanks again for the Access with Unicode driver tip and JDBC
    info. It looks like I can finally start moving forward again with
    the site migration process.

  • Update Access database via OleDB from DataGridView

    I have been scouring these forums and the internet in general as well as doing a lot of reading, all to no avail.  I can not seem to successfully update the Access database from an edited DataGridView.  I am trying to use Stored Procedures that
    are in the Access database and work fine therein.  The DGV is filled in properly.  I have tried an ever-increasing number of variants to update the database (Private Sub BtnUpdate...)  without success.  I'd really, really appreciate some
    guidance here.
    Here is my code thus far:
    Public Class Form1
        Dim con As OleDbConnection
        Dim cmd As OleDbCommand
        Dim da As OleDbDataAdapter
        Dim ds As DataSet
        Dim ProviderConnectionString As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="
        Dim TargetList As String = "C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Development5\Test.mdb"
        Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
            'establish a connection to the database
            con = New OleDbConnection(ProviderConnectionString & TargetList)
            con.Open()
            'define the command to be used
            cmd = New OleDbCommand
            cmd.Connection = con
            cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
            cmd.CommandText = "ListAllTargets"
             'create the data adapter based on the command
            da = New OleDbDataAdapter(cmd)
            'fill the data set based on the command
            ds = New DataSet
            da.Fill(ds, "AllTargets")
            'bind and load dgvTargets with the data
            dgvTargetList.DataSource = ds.Tables("AllTargets")  ' Binding to dgvtargetlist
         End Sub
        Private Sub btnUpdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click
             da.UpdateCommand = New OleDbCommand("UPDATE TargetList SET;", con)
            Validate()
            da.Update(ds.Tables("AllTargets"))
            Me.ds.AcceptChanges()
        End Sub
    End Class

    Hi John,
    Welcome to MSDN forums!
    Cor pointed you to the right direction. An OleDBCommandbuilder object is required, which can be used to automatically
    generate DeleteCommand, UpdateCommand and InsertCommand for DataAdapter object.
    Here is detailed walkthrough: How to update
    (Insert/Update/Delete) data back into MS Access database from DataGridView.
    1) New a WinForms project, drag&drop DataGridView1 and Button1 onto
    Form1.
    2) Add database file test.mdb to project via: Data menu -> Add New Data Source
    Wizard ... then you can use ralative path to this database file in code
    3) Select/click
    your database file test.mdb in Solution Explorer
    -> Properties Pane
    -> change the "copy to ouput directory" to "copy
    if newer"
    4) Code sample
    Imports System.Data.OleDb
    Public
    Class Form1
    Dim myDA As OleDbDataAdapter
    Dim myDataSet As DataSet
    Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender
    As System.Object, ByVal e
    As System.EventArgs) Handles
    MyBase.Load
    Dim con As OleDbConnection =
    New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0;data source=|DataDirectory|\test.mdb")  ' Use relative path to database file
    Dim cmd As OleDbCommand =
    New OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM Table1", con)
    con.Open()
    myDA = New OleDbDataAdapter(cmd)
    'Here one CommandBuilder object is required.
          'It will automatically generate DeleteCommand,UpdateCommand and InsertCommand for DataAdapter object
    Dim builder As OleDbCommandBuilder =
    New OleDbCommandBuilder(myDA)
    myDataSet = New DataSet()
    myDA.Fill(myDataSet, "MyTable")
    DataGridView1.DataSource = myDataSet.Tables("MyTable").DefaultView
    con.Close()
    con = Nothing
    End Sub
    ' Save data back into database
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender
    As System.Object, ByVal e
    As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    Me.Validate()
    Me.myDA.Update(Me.myDataSet.Tables("MyTable"))
    Me.myDataSet.AcceptChanges()
    End Sub
    End
    Class

    How do I access the printer via web site?I tried entering the 127.0.0.1 but IE couldn't open the page.What am I missing?

    The 127.0.0.1 address is the loopback address for your (and everyone's) computer.  You will want find the IP address of the printer.  You can do this from the front panel of the computer, if the printer is wireless touch the wireless icon on the bottom of the LCD.  Once you have the IP Address of the printer put that in your browser.

    Hi,
    As of now in Xcelsius/Dashboard Design there is no feature or functionality to insert/update/delete data from database.
    Solution:
    Create a Web service in let’s say C# or Java, which will perform insert/update/delete operation.
    In Xcelsius add Web Service connection and user above web service.
    Xcelsius Web Service connection provides option to pass input values to a Web Service (Input Pane) and get the result (Output values pane).
    We can pass values to be written to the database as a input to Web Service via Web Service connection from Xcelsius and write data to the database.
    Note:
    Performing delete operation from Xcelsius Dashboard could be risky and may delete important data from database. I would not prefer giving delete option/functionality in Xcelsius dashboard.
    Hope this helps!
    Thank you.
