How to: Airplay photos to a TV without Apple TV

This is a request not an instruction.
I would like instructions on how to view my photos, currently held on my iPhone 4S, on my 2009 Panasonic networked TV but WITHOUT having to get Apple TV.
I have a wireless router and attached Synology DiskStation NAS - and my TV is networked via cable from the router. my iPhone 4S is on the wifi to that router.
Can I do it without Apple TV? If so - how please?
Thanks

@wjosten
Apologies if you took my reply as rude - not intended at all - I really thought you were playing a joke on me or wanted to make a pro-Apple sales point, but obviously not, so sorry about my critical response as it has landed on you negatively. You took the time to reply and I should be grateful. I thought your single URL link only answer  and the fact it was a 'cable' solution was a message to me saying " get a cable if you dont want to buy Apple TV". My assumption obviously was wrong - the limitations of messaging plus, to be fair, you did not add any explanation whatsoever  - just the URL., so I am left to interpret the meaning of your 'URL' message.
@Meg_ST_Clair - thank you for your suggestions too.
Airplay does exist as a service on Apple devices, at least between Apple devices and airplay compliant thrird party hardware. My original question, if it too was not clear, was to ask how U can use Airplay service between my ipHone 4S and non-Apple devices, as I heard it was poossible but so far I have no evidence for that.
Let's reset our convo and assume we are all friendly again!

Yes but if you have not done so, backup your iPhoto library. That way if there's a problem, you can restore from a backup.

  • How to airplay the iPad's screen to Apple TV?

I am using the 1st Generation of iPad. And I have an Apple TV. I can only stream Videos, Photos or Music to the Apple TV only! What should I do to airplay the iPad's screen to Apple TV?
    Thanks a lot!

You are talking about mirroring, which was a feature that became available with the pad 2.  The faster processor makes this possible, and is not available for the pad 1.

  • How to resize photo to fit screen without loosing proportions?

I am in the process of creating a PowerPoint presentation and it will basically consist of photos, some text and a music background.  I want the photos to fill my computer screen, so when I am in Elements 5, I am going to Image menu and then to resize - Image Size, and changing the pixel dimensions here.  My monitor is set at 1280 x 1024 pixels and I am trying to resize my photos to 1280 x 1024 so that they will perfectly fill the entire monitor when the PowerPoint presentation is played.  The problem is that when I go to resize the photos, I have to leave the Constrain Proportions options unchecked so that I can manually and freely enter the values I want for both the Width and the Height to match my monitor dimensions.  When my photo is resized using this method, the proportions get thrown off and the picture looks a little funny.  But if I check mark the Constrain Proportions option, then I will only be able to enter a value for one of the dimensions since Elements will automatically figure the other dimension for me.  This way the proportions look fine, but the photo may not completely fill the screen the way I would like.
Is there some kind of work-around for this seeming catch-22 type of problem??
    Thanks,
    Lee

That's great about being able to use px (pixels) as the unit of measurement regarding the cropping tool.  I will be playing around with this.  Thanks for this great bit of information.
Real quick on my question regarding the original proportion of the photo.  I am sorry about the confusion here.  In my initial question I had mentioned how I had tried to resize my photo(s) by using the Image - Resize - Image Size command from the main menu and was not able to check the Constrain Proportions option because I needed to enter both values for the Width and Height to match my screen size in pixels.  But when I did that, I lost the original proportion of the photo and it looked funny and such.  People's faces were thinner and longer than they should have been etc...  So when you started talking about using the crop tool to get my photo to the same pixel dimensions as my screen, I am just asking if the photo can maintain its original proportions, or might I be running into the same problem I had before when I was using the Image - Resize command.  I am not talking about loosing my original photo, I am making all these changes to a copy of the original photo so my original is protected and safe.  Maybe I should be calling it the aspect ratio.  I am wondering if after I make these changes with the crop tool, can I also still maintain the original aspect ratio of the photo?  Because this was my original problem, I was contorting the photo due to the aspect ratio changing.  I hope I am using the right terms here being more clear?

  • How to create photo book from Album without cropping

I just came from vocation and try to make a cool photo book out of my "best pictures" selection. Most images are "as is" from camera, so have "standard" aspect ratio: H/W.
I also happy about composition and would like to keep all or most of it.
I tried several "cool" templates, but can not get results I want: iPhoto randomly place my images on random template, but the painful issue is that it is also randomly crops my images to fit these random layout. It probably try to make it look "cool", but it does not make any sense and does not look cool.
I can do it all manually and select template for every page, also, changing mask for every image (for some minimum of mask still crops more then half of image, so page layout have to be changed). I have about 200 pictures I picked for album and I am not happy about doing it 200 times.
It may work for me if iPhoto just flow images without cropping for fit? Extra bonus would be if I can select images I want "big", "medium" or "small"
Can iPhoto automatically create a simple PhotoBook for printing without killing most images with random and some times more than 50% cropping?

Canon S90 - it is Advanced P&S. When I say crop I does not mean a little bit on sides I mean iPhoto 11 some times crop 50% of image, some times try to zoom on faces. At any rate, most images just rendered useless. Say you have normal landscape picture of person holding some thing in his hands. iPhoto made super wide strip out of it to fit in 1+2 kind of layout, so what you see is upper half with face, object in hands completely out and you can not change mask as at minimal settings it is still cuts more than half of image out.
I tried many Themes, but I can not find one that would not destroy my images, that are very typical, hobbits images, with margin usually big enough for small fit crop, but as it is my trip record I would like to keep (naturally, no?) all details in.
Zoom of face may be cool, but when the rest of image lost, what the point?
I can go one by one, but this is time consuming for 200 images. It just make sense to have "preserve image" settings or "simple" photo book template some where... but I can no find it: all settings in iPhoto are kept to minimum , Apple style

  • How to delete photos in a folder without causing unintended empty space?

So I like to keep photos in a typical Finder folder. The thing is, whenever I delete a photo, there's an empty space where that photo used to be. And those empty spaces add up and the result is not too visually appealing. Is there any way to remove all the empty spaces at once? Thanks in advance.

Try setting a default Sort By setting using COMMAND-J while viewing the window. You can configure other settings as well:

Is there a way to view the photos at large size _without_ importing them?
Can anyone recommend an app that does this?
    Thanks for any help.

Install Dropbox on your computer and put all your pictures in the Dropbox.
Once you install Dropbox on your iPad, you,ll be able to see all those pictures on your computer's Dropbox.

  • How to resize photos added to Keynote, without doing it proportionally?

I want to scale a picture I add to Keynote for iPad, but it always does it proportionally. I can't skew it at all. If an object is added it can be skewed and scaled however, but this cannot be done with pictures added?
Am I missing a setting, or a technic?

I was referring to resizing a jpeg file.
There is no technological way to resize a jpeg without either:
    1 recompressing it.
    2 using non-standard jpeg extensions.
The problem with #1 we are mostly familiar: re-jpeg'ing a jpeg causes degradation.
The problem with #2 is that other software won't be able to read them afterward.
I experimented with lossless resizing using a couple different programs (e.g. a libjpeg-based utility), and it worked perfectly, but Lr can't read the resized files (it does not support the requisite jpeg extensions), nor could ACDSee...
So, unless a specification for the jpeg extensions gets approved (and becomes a standard), I doubt we'll see lossless jpeg resizers in wide use.
I have written a lossless crop script, which may be the next best thing, it's free, and available here:
    robcole.com - MiscLrScripts
    Script name: 'Jpeg perma-crop lossless'.
Comes complete for Windows users, some assembly required on Mac.
It will overwrite original source files, so not recommended unless:
    * it's really what you want to do, and/or
    * you have backups of original source files, in case you cropped it wrong, or change your mind afterward..
(if possible, originals will be in trash/recycle-bin, so..).
To be clear, in this context, "lossless" means "maintaining jpeg format without recompression" - jpeg is a lossy format to begin with..

  • How get all photos from photo streams without iPhoto

Hi to make A long story short, I lost a Hard Drive with iPhoto on it... Including all my baby's pics ... However I can still see them in the photo streams on my idevices.. First off without that Mac how can just grab all the photos off photo stream without iPhoto?
Secondly, if I can install iPhoto on another machine or drive will that help or hurt me? Will all the photos show up under my Apple ID and can I just copy them or am I running any risk of deleting the streams?
Is my only option to copy photos from photo stream a few at a time? And does that not repush them back up to the stream and erase older photos?
    Thank you for any help!!
Yes I know I am a complete idiot for not backing up or using online backup service...

If you create a new library on another Mac, set its Photo Stream preferences to
and log into your iCloud account on that Mac and enable Photo Stream,  the Photo Stream photos will automatically be imported into the new library. It can take a while depending on how many photos are in the stream.
When you're done log out of your iCloud account and copy the library to a flash drive or DVD (if small enought) till you get your new drive.

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi or cellular. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • How can I reset my iCloud account without deleting all my contacts and photos on my iPhone.

How can I reset my iCloud account without losing all my photos and contacts on my phone. I just want to clean up my iCloud.

Not sure what you mean by "reset" your iCloud account, but if you want to clean up other data, just delete it from the apps on your phone that are syncing with iCloud, or from icloud.com.  They will be simultaneously deleted from iCloud and any devices syncing with iCloud.
Similarly, if you delete photos from your my photo stream album, they will be deleted from your photo steam and any devices connected to your photo stream.  If you want to save them first, open the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos to select them, tap Edit, tap Save to Camera Roll.
