How to allow Acrobat Reader to "Save As"?

I have created a PDF with drop down menus, text fields, ect using LiveCycle 9. When I transfer the pdf to a different machine that just has "Acrobat Reader 8" on it, I get the caption on the top that reads:
"Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed in this form. Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records."
I want people to be able to open the form, fill out the form and then "save as" so they can retain a copy of the form they have just completed and if need be edit the text fields they are able to type in at a later date.
Any help would be great.

John,
Check out the Acrobat license. Using Adobe Acrobat Standard(?) or Professional you can "Extend Features in Acrobat Reader". This is intended for ad-hoc forms of no more than 500 users or uses (please check this out).
If this applies to you, then generate the form in LC and then open it in Acrobat and go to the Advanced menu and you will see the extend option.
Users with the Reader version will then be able to save the form.

Niall

  • How to use Acrobat 9 standard to create a PDF form that an Acrobat reader can save

    Hi,
    I'm evaluating Acrobat 9 standard edition. I want to create a PDF with a form that allow Acrobat Reader users to fill in the form and save to their local machine.
    I looked at "Can I save a filled out PDF form using the free Adobe Reader? "
    However, it refers to version 8 and has a link to another page that states to look in Acrobat 8 help. Well I can't anything for how to create right-enable PDF in the help.
    How can I do this in Acrobat 9?
    Thanks.

    I think that the right's enabling was added to AA9 Std. It was not part of AA8 Std as far as I know. However, you need to read the restrictions on the use of the reader rights. There is a 500 form use limit. If you exceed that limit you are supposed to contact Adobe for negotiations for further use. I do not think those restrictions have changed with AA9, but read the EULA to check it out.

  • How can users who have Acrobat Reader only save scanned pdf files so that the text on them is searchable using ctrl-F?  I just use the recognize text with ocr feature in the full version of Acrobat and this seem to do the trick. Reader doesn't work!

    Our users have scanned pdf files they want to be able to search using ctrl-f.  I got them to be searchable by doing a recognize text using ocr with Acrobat Professional vesion 8.  They want to know if they can make the files searchable with Acrobat Reader only or if they need the full Acrobat Professional software to make the files searchable.
    Thanks for the help!!

    To clarify a bit they need to have Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader. Reader has not been associated with the Acrobat name for 3 or more versions. The process you are asking about is a creation process - the purpose of Acrobat - and NOT a reading feature.

  • How to install Acrobat Reader in a different drive?

    Hello!,
    I was just wondering if anyone out there knows how can I install Acrobat Reader in a different drive than just directly in C:. It goes by default there whenever I try to download it from the site, and there's no option anywhere to choose where it will install the program. I need to change the drive cause my C: is too full and dont have much else to delete from it, but have plenty of space in D:. Is it possible somehow to install the program in a different drive than c:? Please help!
    Thanks,
    Marcus Bale

    Download the full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    When you run the installer, use 'Change destination folder' at the bottom of the panel
    If you already have Adobe Reader installed on the C: drive, you must uninstall it before installing a new version on a different location.

  • Acrobat Reader DC Save Folder

    I have just upgraded to Acrobat Reader DC. The problem is that I had a shortcut to a commonly used drive in the default location. However, now this does not help me as it does not show the shortcut. I am also unable to create a shortcut since it does not show a specific folder. It also does not save my shared drive as a recent folder. Is there something that I can do so that I won't have to click on choose a different folder then have to scroll for my shared drive each time. This is done thousands of times per month and always to the same location. Thanks for the help.

    If you do not use online storage, you can change the Save As dialog to Windows' Save As dialog.
    Steps:
    1. Launch Reader DC.
    2. Go to Edit > Preferences.
    3. Select General from Categories.
    4. Uncheck "Show online storage when saving files" option.
    5. Click OK button.

  • How to disable Acrobat reader toolbar permanently when rendering PDF with Adobe Reader in-browser

    Hi ,
    I am using Adobe Reader  to view my pdf files which is embedded in the HTML page and running as an activex. I need to disable the toolbar like share the content as email link /attachment  for the security reason.  I am able to find a way to hide  the Acrobat toolbar  but it is visible  by just pressing F8.
    Can anyone please suggest a way to disable the toolbar permanently.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Jobin.

    Hi Bernd Alheit,
         when I try to open a PDF in a browser and attaching the query string as #toolbar=0 makes the toolbar hidden. But in my case I am rendering the form using a formservice - renderPDFForm method with XDP format file as a input file. So I cant use the toolbar=0 option, since there is no url. Rather I have used the   javascript code in the form designer to hide the toolbar. app.toolbar  =false ; But this particular code is not working for acrobat reader X version. Can you please help me how to hide the tool bar.
    Thanks,
    Dhamo

  • HOW TO MAKE  ACROBAT READER THE DEFAULT VALUE ON AN IPAD?

    I use Acrobat Pro XI  to create forms, no problem on a laptop but on an iPad Acrobat Reader is not the default app, and the form cannot be filled in, how can I make AR the default app?

    Actually, according to this page How to Use Dropbox With Adobe Reader - Snapguide you can go straight from DropBox to Adobe Reader without involving Apple's reader.

  • How to close Acrobat reader with a button inside the document ?

    Hi,
    Is there any way to close acrobat reader using script ?
    Doing this :
    app.execMenuItem("Close");
    will close my document, but not the reader ...
    Any idea ?

    Hi Olivier,
    As you say the close script will close the current document only. It is not possible to script for closing the application (Acrobat or Reader).
    The user has to close the application.

    <userSettings>

                    <value>OFF</value>
                </setting>
            </Client.Properties.Settings>
        </userSettings>
    If i modify the value during runtime from "OFF" to "ON" by opening the
    Client.exe.config, the application still access the old value. But if i close the application and open again then it reads the updated value.
    Is there someway to make the exe read the updated user settings at runtime .
    Regards Nithin Joseph
    Hello,
    I am afraid that it is impossible because the application just read that value just one time when loading the application, and the modification will not affect the value any more.
    Instead, you could place a xml file, and load the value when you want to do any action with the event handler.

  • How to use acrobat reader as a website to pdf converter.

    Please I have a website about [link removed by forum host], and I want to covert it to a pdf. How can I do it I need your suggestions and comments.

    Adobe Acrobat can convert a Web page to PDF either using the browser plugin or the Create button on the Acrobat toolbar.
    Adobe Reader does not provide conversion or PDF creation tools.

I recorded a video and it said "allow acess to photos" or something like that. I acidentally hit no. Now it wont let me change that. It says "user media access denied" or something like that. The app has no settings for it. I whent in the ipod settings and the app dosent come up in the list. I deleted the app  then redownloaded it. It still wont let me save the videos? any ideas?

    Try going to Settings>Privacy. You should be able to turn it on there.

  • How to make Acrobat Reader open as full page.

    My Reader has recently started opening in a small window, across the top of the screen. How can I get it to open as a full screen - or at least re-size the window to make it larger ?

    First of all, this is the Acrobat forum, not Reader.
    To answer your questions:
    -You can't put Reader in full-screen mode when  it opens. However, you can set the initial view setting of a certain  file as full screen.
    -To open the Reader window (or any other one, for that matter) maximized,  go to the shortcut's properties, "Shortcut" tab, and change the "Run"  option from "Normal Window" to "Maximized".

  • How to install acrobat reader on other drive than c:

    Couldn't find any possibility to install manually and so have the choice of the drive. The installation starts automatically with the download. How can I change this?

    This is a four years old topic; it's really far better to start a new topic and supply all information.
    Download the installer you want from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    If you need an installer version that is not offered on that page, navigate the FTP site from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/
