  • How to copy sql database tables to oracle database

    hii everybody,
i have 50 sql databse tables and i want to copy these tables into oracle database, how can i achive this?.Any help highly appreciated.
    thanks.

    Hi,
You haven't said if this is a one-off copy of the data or if it is comething you want to do on a regular basis.
If it is a one-off move of the data then you could use the SQL*Developer migration workbench, see here for more details -
    SQL*Developer main page -
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/overview/index.html
    Database Migration technology -
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/migration/index-084442.html
If it is something you want to do on a regular basis then you could use a gateway to make a connection between SQL*Server and Oracle and then copy or select from the remote tables.
The following page has more detail -
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/gateways/index.html
and this note if you have access to My Oracle Support -
Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products (Doc ID 1083703.1)
You could also use GoldenGate which allows real-time replication between Oracle and non-Oracle databases -

  • Problems accessing tables in oracle database with ejb entity bean

I have created a simple server application that uses an entity bean (version 2.0) for an existing table in oracle database, and a session bean that is used as an outside interface for performing operations on that table.
after deploying the server and client application the client attempts to perform an operation with the session bean remote interface it obtained.
The session bean uses a locale interface to communicate with the entity bean, but when it tries to use its methods (create, findByXXX) it always get the following Exception: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist.
the table of course exists, and the username password I'm using has all the permissions needed for this table.
note - I'm using the Forte enterprise edition 4.0 as developer tool.
I'll be glad to get some help.

Well it seems like the problems has a simple explanation. The Forte assigns a default table name (<entityName>EJBTable) when creating an entity bean from an existsing table in DB (which is not the same as the one it was created from !!!). Also, for reason unknown, when you deploy these entity beans, it doesn't even create the new table under its new name (even if instructed to).
So using the Forte we managed to use successfuly only entity beans that were created "from scretch" (when deployed their tables are created).
Does anyone know how to change the default name the Forte uses, and make it work properly with entity beans created from an existsing table (without going over the xml's) ?

How do I get from Oracle Database 8.1.7.0.0 to 8.1.7.2? There is a patchset that fixes a bug in 8.1.7 for memory leaks that I need installed. I am currently running on a WindowsNT Server with a Oracle Database version of 8.1.7.0.0. Is going to 8.1.7.2 a complete release upgrade, or is there a smaller upgrade to get there, and how do I get the files required>
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Sorry for my english
For Windows NT, the last big patchset is 8.1.7.4.x. I advice you to use the last patchset. A patchet is not a upgrade or a migrate. the installation is in two phase. Phase One:Patch the files in the oracle home with Oracle Universal Installer (Oui) and Phase Two: execute sql files on the dictionnary of each database. There is a readme with the patch.
you can get files on metalink if you have a account (metalink.oracle.com).

I thought there will be a magic switch to turn it off and on!That is how Oracle has been since I can remember. You get what you ask for. Does that sound bad?
    Would you want:
IF ('ABC' = 'Abc')to evaluate to TRUE or FALSE?
The behaviour seems to be correct. In cases where you want the comparision to be case insensitive, you have several ways to do it. You do it exactly where you need it, not everywhere and all the places.
The default behaviour would potentially give you one row where as making it case insensitive could potentially give you several rows. now you need to pick one, which one?

  • Querying SQL server table from Oracle database 11g

    Hi all
We are using oracle database 11g R2 on REL 5 and i have an SQL server database used by one of our application.
In my Oracle database, i want to query one table in my SQL server database and to link it in a table in Oracle database to compare data.
Is there a way like database link or something else to do this need>
Please send a link or pots here step by step the way on how to accomplish my query.
    Thank you.

Yes, you can set up your SQL Server as an external database link, using Oracle Heterogeneous Services with SQL Server as an ODBC connection (easier to do if your Oracle server is a Windows server, a little more tricky if your Oracle server is *nix based)
    Here's the documentation... for 11gR2

  • How to join tables on different databases

In the company I work in, we've got some java applications working on two different instances which "hide" to each others (one on 10g and the other on 8i). Some decoding tables, which should common to both of them, are only present on 8i one.
I've been told that java works 'cause it allows to connect to both of databases and then report the information on front end applications.
The question is this: since we'll have to get reports on both of databases, is it possible to perform queries by using tools like oracle forms, oracle reports, sql developers, ... for joining the tables of the two different databases as java does? We have to get how to accede directly to the two instances for getting data from both of them for reporting activities. I remind you that we cannot use dblinks between the two databases for internal security reasons.
    Thanks in advance!

Even java can't join between tables on two databases if the db links are not created.
So it essentially works that it fetches the data from one db and then from another db ( using two different db connctions) and then you can utlize these data and perform some joining.
Coming back to database world. It can be done like the usual dw approach.
    1. Connect to a third db:
    2. Get data from one database
    3. get data from other database.
now do all the joins that you want to do

  • How to find out whether Oracle database was upgraded ??

    Hi,
I need to find out whether my Oracle database was upgraded, If yes how to find out by SQL query .I know their is database_properties table, but when I try to query that it didnt gave me the output which I required.
Like in SAP we have uvers table which keep info about the upgrade history, whether such history is avaliable in oracle ?? . Iam looking out for output which is like old database Release 9.2.0.7 and new database release 10.2.0.2.
Whether similar such history is maintained in Oracle database.
    Awaiting for your feedback.
    Kind Regards

    Hi all,
After checking all the material,I dont think prior to 10g, oracle register its earlier version.
The views of v$version show the current version for various components and also dba_registry displays info about catlog/catproc versions.
In 10g, you can use the following query to know the version when the database was broughtup.
    select startup_time,version,db_name from dba_hist_database_instance.
Anways thanks to all of you.

  • How fragment a table in Oracle RAC

    Hello to all
I have to use a DB cluster in a project, I'm using Oracle RAC for this but i have a question, is it posible to fragment tables in Oracle RAC? If this is possible, how can I do it?
    Thanks all for your help.

If by "fragment" you mean doing what is typically referred to as "sharding" and storing different subsets of the table on different nodes, no, you can't.
Unlike how many databases do clustering with a "shared nothing" architecture, a RAC cluster involves multiple instances (software processes running on each node) to access a single database (set of data files) on a shared storage system. Sharding a table in this context doesn't make sense-- every instance is going to have access to the entire table. Sharding makes sense in other approaches to clustering where the storage system is not shared across multiple nodes.
If you are trying to ensure that different nodes don't conflict with each other when requesting particular blocks, or at least to minimize that contention, you can potentially create different services that run on different nodes and have different users connect to those services. So, for example, if you create a different service for different geographic regions, configured those services to run on particular nodes, configured users in those geographic regions to connect to the service appropriate for their region and the data in a table is naturally separated by region, you would end up with each node preferentially caching blocks that have data associated with their particular region and you would have relatively few cache fusion requests where one node asks for a cached block from a different node.
If you are trying to improve query performance, you can use partitioning instead of sharding the data (you can do this without using RAC as well). This allows Oracle to store different subsets of the data for a table in different physical segments so your queries can hit individual partitions rather than the entire table to retrieve the data they're after.
