How to apply patch on database 9.2.0.1.0
Please any body can send patch applying procedure. I want to apply patch on 9.2.0.1.0 to new release.
Thanks
What do you mean by 'new release' in your thread? 9.2.0.8.0 is not the new release, but the latest and the last patchset for 9iR2.
You should download from metalink the patchset corresponding to your platform (actually not specified either) using your valid CSI.

Applying patch to database...
Hi an anybody guide me how to apply a patch to a database.. say I am applying patch in 10.2.0.4 to move it to *.*0.5..
how is it different from applying PSUs??
if after applying that also it shows us old version what cud be the reason??
Please suggestHi Saha,
It depends on what kind of patch you are applying. Some patches could be as big as a full database upgrade and other could be as small as just to run ‘opatch apply’. For all patches, when you down load the patch binary files please also download the related documents and read the document thoroughly. Also don’t forget to check post-patch instruction.
If you are simply looking for a general command to apply oracle one off patch then the command is ‘opatch apply’. For other opatch options please execute ‘opatch –help’.
Hope this helps, Thanks,

How to apply patches by using solution manager system?
HELLO FRIENDS,
when i download the patch SAPKB70012 & next level patches from service market place, it says that we have to apply the following packages by using maintenance optimizer(solution manager). here i have solution manager4.0., please any one let me know how to configure the maintenance optimzr and how to apply support packages by the solution manager system.
Thanks&Regards
Farkath.CHello
Solman will not implement the files you can download the files using Solman. You need to move the downloaded files to application server and implement them for that you need to configure MoPZ
You can go to server market place service.sap.com/RKT in that select Solution manager.
You will have to select the product as solution manager 7.0 and in technology consultants and system administrator you will find the configuration documentations in for for SIM files.
You can use that and learn how to configure the optimizer on the system.
Then you can download the files and implement the same.

I'm trying to apply patches to dbxml 2.2.13.
I'm pretty sure I'm alone in finding this tricky...but here goes:
Each patch seems to need some different -p arg to strip some arbitrary bit of the path. Am I missing something obvious here?
A couple (eg patch 6 shown below) don't work (I tried downloading using different browsers just in case they're not saving plaintext right)...
patch -p1 < ../patch.2.2.13.6
missing header for context diff at line 3 of patch
(Stripping trailing CRs from patch.)
patching file src/dbxml/nodeStore/NsEventGenerator.cpp
Hunk #1 FAILED at 357.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file src/dbxml/nodeStore/NsEventGenerator.cpp.rej
Again, I've not used patch before so apologies for being thick.Jacoby,
I think you're right. The patch files have somehow become inconsistent that way. The code portions are still correct.
I'll look into fixing this, but in the mean time, if you hand edit the patch files so that the relative paths to the individual files involved is consistent, they'll work better.

How to apply patch on Kernal for ECC 5.0?

I have installed a new SAP ECC 5.0 system. The release verion shows the current Release as 6.4 and Patch Level 43. Now I want to apply the latest patch on Kernal.
Can any one please provide me the steps for
1). How to proceed with the Kernal upgarde?
2). Which all files to be downloaded from Service Marketplace before proceeding
with the upgrade?
3). Any configurations/back up to be done before starting with upgradation?
4). Any document for the upgradation of Kernal.?
5). How to confirm whether the upgradation has been done sucessfully?
Please reply ASAP!
Thanks in advance.

For latest patches you can check at
http://service.sap.com/swdc -> Support Packages and
Patches -> Entry by application -> Application Components
-> SAP ERP -> ERP2004 -> SAP ECC Server
There are two kinds of kernal files:
SAPDBEXE and SAPEXE,one is DB dependent and one file is DB independent.
For downloading the kernal patch:Follow the below path as per your OS and DB combination
for downloading a kernel patch
go through following
service.sap.com/swdc
downloads-> SAP Support packages -> My Company's Application Components -> SAP KERNEL 32 bit ->SAP KERNEL 4.6D 32-BIT ->SAP KERNEL 4.6D 32-BIT->Windows Server on IA32 32bit -> Select ur database->Windows Server on IA32 32bit

Hi, I install oracle 11.2.0.1 software without db to my os.
Before creating a new database I want to apply the patches which this version needs.
Is this possible or should I create db and apply the patches later? In patch document,
it mentions the steps as I already have db. Thanks.efendicans wrote:
I won't move the db. I will create a new one and import a schema with datapump from another db(10.2.0.2). As I understand from your replies I can patch binaries, create db and then import schema(without applying the db steps in patch document). Am I right? Thank you.Again, it depends on how you create the database. Go through the dbca wizard and select "custom" instead of one of the pre-defined databases. When you choose "custom", the script that gets generated to create your database starts with nothing and does a CREATE DATABASE. So your database is created from the git-go with the patched system. If you chose one of the pre-defined database types, it gets created by restoring a 'seed' database that was most likely created at the base level, so would need to have the database portion of any patches applied.
I never use the pre-defined databases, for this very reason.
(PS it would be very educational for you to go through dbca twice, once for a pre-defined db, and once for a custom. At the end, simply select 'create scripts' WITHOUT actually creating the database. Then study the scripts.) -
How to apply patch 118833-36 on a containerized server?
We have a V890 running Solaris 10 that has two zones (containers) running instances
of Oracle database. `smpatch' won't install patch 118833-36 in the normal manner
because it's flagged as an interactive patch. The recommended procedure is to shut
the server down, boot it in single-user mode and then apply the patch this way:
# cd /var/sadm/spool
# smpatch add -i 118833-36
Then, you are supposed to shut it down again, do a reconfiguration boot, and finally
run smpatch again to apply the remaining patches.
Will this procedure work for a server with containers? I understand that the zones have
to be running for the patch upgrade to succeed. Is there a way to boot the zones into
single-user mode as well? We need to ensure that Oracle doesn't start during the
patch procedures.Log into the global zone and run :
# shutdown -y -g0 -is
This should bring down the global zone to su mode and halt the other zones (notice Halt)
However I believe there is a bug presently where this does not always happen and you are still able to telnet to the local zones.
Local zone admin could always run zoneadm -z <zone-name> halt on each zone (notice halt not single-user).
Once global zone in in single-user mode install the patch as normal, when the global is done it will bring up each local zone to single-user mode to add the patch too.
118833-36 may need patch add and -G option as this patch also has been experiencing some issues, in which case I believe you would need to do the patch add process on each zone manually
Once the global zone is brought back up again it should bring up the local zones as well.
Let us know if you experience the locals not being halted as mentioned above and need to do it manually. -

How to apply patches to BW instance
we have NW04 SR1 software.
Using the SAPINST gui we installed WebAS Unicode with Java Add-in.
We did a client copy 010 for XI and 020 fro BW. (We want to maintain different clients for XI and BW).
Then we installed the BW UDI Component, XI and Adapter Engine.
We started applying the patches - Servcie Pack 18.
ABAP patches went well.
While installing the J2EE patches,I have to specify the client. So I specified the XI client 010 and installed the J2EE patches.
Now my question is - do install the J2EE patches for BW purpose with client 020?
If so, will there be any conflict between the install done with client 010?
Please advise.
Thanks,

Apply Patches on Oracle Database with Logical Standby Database
Here I am:
I got a primary database with a logical standby database running Oracle 11g. I got two client applications, one is the production site pointing to the primary one, another one is just a backup site pointing to the logical one.Things will only be written into the primary database every mid night and client applications can only query the database but not add, update nor delete. And now, I want to apply the latest patch on both of my databases. I am also the DNS administrator, I can make the name server pointing to the backup site instead of the production one.I want to firstly apply the patch on the logical one, and then the physical one.
I found some reference which explains how to apply patches by adopting "Rolling Upgrade Method". however, I want to avoid doing any "switch over" mentioned in the reference because I can make use of name server. Can I just apply patches as the following way?
1)Stop SQL apply
2)Apply patches on logical standby database
3)let the name server point to the backup site
4)Apply patches on the primary database
5)Start SQL apply
6)Let the name server point back to the production site
Thanks in advance.Pl follow the steps in MOS Doc 437276.1 ( Upgrading Oracle Database with a Logical Standby Database In Place )

Note on applying patches to the file system and database
Dear all,
I am new to Oracle E-business suite. Anyone in the house that can give a note (either a step by step or oracle metalink note) on how to apply patches to a file system or database.
Kind Regards.Hi,
Steps to apply an application patch:
- Stop all application services (keep the database and the database listener up and running)
- Download the patch from Metalink
- Copy the patch file to any directory (i.e. /u04/patches)
- As 'applmgr' do the following:
- Source the environment file
- $ cd /u04/patches
- Type 'unzip <patch_number>.zip'
- cd <patch_number>
- Type 'adpatch'
- When it prompts you to enter the patch driver, type 'u<patch_number>.drv'
Apply the patch on the database tier first then on the application tier.
Do not forget to 'Enable Maintenance Mode' from adadmin before applying the patch. Once you apply the patch successfully, 'Disable Maintenance Mode' from adadmin.
And, always follow the steps in the patch README file.
For database patches, follow the steps in the patch README file and apply the patch using opatch as oracle user.
For more details about applying patches, please refer to:
"Oracle Applications Maintenance Utilities" manual
