How to apply transitions between clips in the same track?

Hey guys,
I'm in Uni on Final Cut Pro 5 and all the videos and discussions tell of how to apply transitions between clips in the same track.
I like to have my clips on different tracks so that I can overlap them at specific points but I don't know how to do this?
If I have track one. . .which ends. . .and have track 2 beginning below that (and have it overlapped for a few seconds) I don't know how to enable the transition at the point where track 2 begins.
Can anyone help?

Yep I understand that.
Let's say I overlap track 2 as I don't like the beginning of it. . .so I want the transition from the end of track one to track two to occur in the middle of track 2 - should I just trim the track to the point I want the transition to occur as opposed to have it overlapping?

Technically it is the Grave Accent ` (aka reverse quote) under the tilda ~ key. Tilda ~ is shifted, and Grave Accent ` is not.

Time Lapse - How to shorten hundreds of clips at the same time

Hi there, i have recently purchased a Gopro camera and have recorded a number of high definition picturtes that i want to stick together and put in a video, however there are about 600 images in total in the timeline, all i want to do, is because they are just images , i want to have each picture (or clip) exactly the same length. Its obviously going to take ages if i try and shorten each clip individually. Also, how do i resize the clips en masse, as they all looked somewhat zoomed in compared to the source file.

"Resize one clip the way you want it, copy the clip on the timeline, select all of the other clips that you want affected, right click and choose paste attributes."
Basicaly you do resize 1 frame (1 clip) to 27.7%
- select it
- cmd+C
-cmd+Alt+V (or right clic Paste Attributes)

In FCPX, how do I use multiple clips of the same event?

This is a beginner question, but having recently moved from Final Cut Express to FCPX, I am having trouble using 3 clips (church play, 3 cameras) of the same event (and reading through the manual has not helped me). I have lined them up in the timeline, one "on top" of the other, but the viewer only shows the top clip. I would like to see what the other clips look like and use the cutting tool and opacity (which I found) to choose the best view (and move between the clips lined up with the audio). It feels like I am trying to use an old work flow on a new product. How do I view the all the clips and move between them?

There is also, of course, more comprehensive paid training available that may better fit your needs.

How to perform functions between tables on the same sheet in Numbers?

I have been working in Numbers creating a worksheet. On one sheet I have multipule tables, with one table it has functions that uses cells from other tables.
When I first created it, it worked fine with 3 tables. Now that I am trying to add more cells from other tables as functions in the main table, it is not working properly. It's not even highlighting the added cell in the function as it did when I created it. Can someone explain what has changed for this to happen.

In Numbers'09, when you point and click on the same cell for the second (third, etc.) time in the same expression (formula), you must hold down the Command key as you do it. Otherwise the subsequent references to that cell won't register. I know you believe that the problem began with adding more than three tables, but I'll bet that the actual problem is with the multiple occurrences of the same cell in one expression.
Just remember to hold down the Command key for additional references to a given cell and you should be OK.

What am I missig? I know this has to be possible, probably the first thing they developed.

I drag a long avi clip onto a track, then i slice it up so that things on the track below it can show through when needed... but now I want to apply an effect to everything on the track I sliced up in one fell swoop.
I easily can select everything on th etrack of course, but when I do anything related to pasting is greyed out everywhere.

And for the benefit of future readers... I was trying to copy from the "effects control" box (totally allowed) and then paste onto a selected group of clips on the timeline window (appearantly not allowed).

How do I share between users on the same macbook?

I have a brand new macbook... the tool at the store wouldn't let me test drive this computer without him first putting a user account in place other than administrative rights (makes no sense to me either) Anyway, I set everything up under this username and now I have established another Admin account under MY Apple ID... as it still references his name in all of the root files. I am pretty intuitive in how to handle this issue......if it were a PC... bare with me . I'm learning.
I surmise that I am able to back everything up and simply wipe the computer as a fix but I am trying to do everything short of that if possible....

OK, I understand what you mean now! I assumed you were asking about the normal Fade In or Fade Out using the transition from the Transitions panel. But I guess you mean the Fade function specific to a Cutaway. When you double-click on a Cutaway the Inspector opens. Here you can set the Cutaway Fade duration. But as you say, it only provides for both fade in and fade out as one operation - you can't set the fades individually (it's both or nothing).
BUT, try the method outlined by Karsten Schluter above. It will give you the same effect and will enable you to fade either side of the Cutaway (or add other transitions).

Have you tried sharing the final movie using the Share menu, or, alternatively use FILE/FINALIZE PROJECT?
The final product shouldn't have any lag. iMovie itself should not have any lag, but could depending on your Memory and hard disk configuration.

I am assumming you are working with "connected clips" which are either above or below the main storyline "track" (the one you put your first project clip onto when you started the project). You can only add transitions to clips that are on either the primary storyline or on a created storyline. Select the clips you are working with then choose the Clip menu and the Create Storyline selection. Make sure snap is set to assure your clips are really butted up against each other. Then apply the transitions.

Here's a little gotcha. Let's say you've color corrected a few clips and you've applied an effect to one and want to paste it the other clips. You switch off color correction and copy the clip. Normally you can apply only one video effect at a time. But for Sepia, black and white, and others that can be done through the video Adjustments tab, you are in luck.
Aged Movie should already have a bit of a sepia tone.
If you want more of a sepia tone or you want to fine tune the sepia effect you can do it with the Clip Inspector/Video Adjustments tab.

If you're looking for a washed-out sepia appearance, first open iMovie's preferences and turn on the Show Advanced Tools option, which adds more controls to the Video Adjustments HUD and other areas of the program. Select the clip you want to alter and press the V key. Set Saturation to 0 percent, and then drag the Red Gain slider to 143 percent, the Green Gain slider to 90 percent, and the Blue Gain slider to 53 percent (feel free to tweak these settings to customize the results). Click on Done when you're finished. Note that the clip thumbnail still appears in color, as the video was shot, but the preview reflects your changes.--JC
If you need to apply the same settings to all clips, first select the clip you have adjusted. Then Edit/Copy. Then Edit/Select All. Then Edit/Paste Adjustments.

Choose FaceTime > Preferences.
The Account field identifies the Apple ID you used to sign in to FaceTime.
You can turn off and sign out of apple id.
