How to arrange photos in an album, PE11

I am unable to find how to arrange photos in an album in PE11. Anybody have an idea?

When you have selected an album, look at the menu 'Sort by', next to the 'All media' button. Set it to 'Album order'. Then you can select (highlight) one or several items and move them around in the browsing space.
Note that PSE11 is missing the alphabetical sort order (that has been introduced in PSE12).

Bear with me a minute. You're confusing a lot of things.
    1. As Larry says, on Windows you are using a File Manager for you your photos. All well and good if it works for you, but limited. Why? Because it doesn't leverage any of the extra information available with photos files. Essentially, a File Manager doesn't distinguish between a photo nd a Word file or a Music file. They are just files.
    2. Photo Managers like iPhoto (Or Picasa, Aperture, Lightroom et al) work differently. They are designed to leverage the additional information available in the photo file. Case in point: Date. In the File Manager you have folders created for Year/Month/Day. In iPhoto the pics are grouped into Events automatically. These Events are based on the date and time the Photos were taken, and which is recorded in the Exif metadata for the photo file.
As we all know, when one downloads pictures from a camera, their"names" appear as a bunch of letters and the number indicating thesequence.
These are Filenames assigned by the Camera. In iPhoto you don't change Filenames you edit Titles. Titles are quite independent of filenames and are an entry in the Exif metadata.
I'm not sure what you've done in the renaming sequence, but iPhoto does not have a Sort -> by Name command. There is a Sort By Title command.
But you would not use Events for this job anyway. You would use an Album. Create an Album, drag the pics to it and then you can sort them in any order you want, manually. Then using the Batch Change Command you can create a sequence for them. So, Title the pics 'House Sale' and check the box to append  number and the result:
House Sale 01, House Sale 02 etc

  • How to arrange photos in Aperture slide shows to the beat of the  music?

Is there anyone that knows how to arrange photos to the beat of the music in Aperture slide shows? I have tried to do a search for this topic, looked at "help" and still can get things to work properly. The "beat of music" command seems to be grayed out. Is there a bug in the software? Any help would be appreciated.

I have been following this thread with great interest. I have tried to do this in Aperture as well. Jumping ahead just a bit to what might be David's next issue, once we figure out why the option is not available to him.
For me once the music has been added the " Align slide to the beat" is available. However it doesn't seem to do anything.
I have accomplished this in iMovie and Final Cut Express. In both of these programs you have to actually mark the beats for things to work. You mark the beats and the software sets the play duration to match. This is pretty easy in iMovie. I am hoping for a similar or better interface in Aperture 3. How is this accomplished in Aperture?

  • How to arrange photos acoording to time of exposed, taken by 3 photographers dumped in one file ?

How to arrange photos acoording to time of exposed, taken by 3 photographers dumped in one file ?

    Hi Tim,
Thanks for replying. I have looked for "PDFBookBinder class" in xml publisher user guide for ver 5.6.2. I didn't get any reference of this text. Can you please guide me to a tutorial/link where i can get more information about this class.
Also, i originally thought of similar to your second logic, as my design basis. Oracle process generates the xml file in output directory which i can get. What i didn't get is how do i "pick them up and merge" using publisher. Also, is there way to do this merging process using pl/sql ? Can you please give little more information on your second approach.
My original plan of action is that i will create a report set in which i will call oracle seeded report for all 7 payrolls in a sequential manner. Then using the child requests of the report set i will get to 7 xml files generated by seeded oracle process. Then the piece i am not sure of , i will use those 7 files to generate a single xml file having payroll name as tree top for each output. Once single xml is ready, i can easily design a template and register the process to generate output as Excel. This process will not require me to actually change any data or do any calculation. It will only reformatting the feilds we see and abiity to see all 7 payroll at one time rather then entering these numbers manually into an excel to do analysis.
Please provide your feedback, if you think above plan is not feasible or need corrections.
    Best Regards,

  • How does one re-arrange photos in an Album?

I made an album of photos, have edited all pics, and now want to re-arrange them, but cannot find a way to do so. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

While viewing the photos in the album go to the View menu in the toolbar and select Sort ➙ XXXX (pick your option).
However, if you drag a photo in an album to another location the sort will be automatically changed to Manual.

  • How to sort photos in an album by filename?

I have imported 273 photos into an album in Photoshop Elements Organizer.  They originally came from 2 different digital cameras, so the date stamp on them is different.  All the photos were combined and sorted by filename before they were imported.  I want to keep them in this order for creating a DVD.  The Media Browser Arrangement indicates you can sort by date (oldest or newest) or Album.  I have searched the Help topics until my eyes are ready to pop out of my head and have spoken with support (for 45 minutes) until we got disconnected.  Help!!!

This approach has worked in many versions of Photoshop Elements for making an Album based on file name within a single Windows folder - but I can't say for sure about version 8.
Since you say they were combined and sorted by filename, I am guessing that you have all of those photos in a single Windows folder.
So try switching to the Folder Location view of the thumbnails, navigate to that Windows folder within the PSE Organizer left side of the screen foldeer structure and verify that the photos are displaying in name sequence within that folder.
Using the Folder Location view (where the photos are displaying in name sequence), select those photos and add them to a newly created PSE Album from their display under the Folder Location view.
Another consideration -looking ahead to your actions
You mention burning to a DVD - if this will be a slideshow burned to a standard definition video DVD for TV playback, I wonder what resolution those photos are? For example, were they from a 5 megapixel camera or a 12 megapixel camera ?
The dilemma is that the resolution of your photo files could be too high for processing 273 photos to make the slide show. If you will be burning a standard definition video DVD from Premiere Elements, there is a recommendation to have the photo files used for the slide show be a resolution of approximately 1000x750 pixels (or equivalent adjustment if you will do widescreen).   In a way this is the opposite of printing where if the resolution is too low, the print quality will be poor. For slideshows written to video DVD, too high a resolution stresses the process of making the video and can either reduce quality of image in the final video or cause crashes.
If you will be burning to a Bluray DVD or displaying on a computer monitor , then the resolution should be somewhat higher - but a 12 MP camera will still give too large a resolution.  The Process Muliple Files function in the PSE Editor or the File > Export new file in the Organizer provide methods to take your entire folder of photo files and create "downsized" resolution files that are written to a different folder so that your current files are untouched.

  • How to download photos from an album to a flash drive on my macair

How do you download pictures from an Album in IPhoto to a flash drive?

Open iPhoto, go to the Album, if you only want some of the photos in the Album then select just those (via Command + click), then go to the File menu and select Export. The second step of the export process will be a standard file save dialog window where you can select the flash drive as the location to export to.

  • Arranging photos in large album

I am trying to arrange photos in a large (600+ photos) album. Moving a photo a small distance works ok, just drag and drop. But if the destination is several screens away, the auto-scroll accelerates rapidly to go so fast that it is impossible to stop near the desired location.
Cut and paste seems not to work for moving photos around within an album either, as paste always put them at the bottom.
Any suggestions? I figure I must be missing something, because this is such a basic organizing function, and I find no one else complaining about it.
    Thanks, SW
P.S. The auto-scroll speed should, it seems to me, reset to slow when the cursor is moved back into the thumbnail window, but it remains at hyper-speed making control impossible.

There really is no fix for this, I’m afraid. Personally, I found that I could - with practise - use a kind of looping movement to get to the target roll. Later versions have Flagging, so you can flag the pics you want to move then select the target roll (or Event) and simply use a menu command to move the flagged photos there.

  • How to import photos and keep album structure?

    Hi all -
I had to do a clean install of OS X, but beforehand, I backed up my entire hard drive using Super Duper.
Now, I want to import all of my photos back into iPhoto, but is there a way for me to do this and keep the previous album structure that I have? I tried dragging the IPhoto library folder into iPhoto and it imported the photos, but my albums are gone.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi.
Trash the iPhoto Library folder that you created on your Mac, or rename it "iPhoto Library damaged" if you may need some of its contents. Copy the iPhoto Library folder from the backup into your Pictures folder. Hold down the Option key as you launch iPhoto and select "Choose Library" from the dialog. Navigate to the good iPhoto Library folder and open. iPhoto should launch and open your library in exactly the same condition it was in when the backup was made. If all goes well you don't have to import anything.
If the library is still missing items, you can try a database rebuild. Hold Command and Option while you launch, select the first 3 options in the dialog, and rebuild. This can fix a library with a slightly damaged database.
If the library still isn't working you may have to create a new library (Option-Launch, select "Create") and import your Originals folder from the backup library. This will give you the pictures back without creating duplicates, but your albums and other items will not be recovered.
    Regards.

  • How to arrange photos in a smart album

I have a hundred or so pics put into the library. I then created smart albums based on keywords but the pics are out of order and need to be arranged. It won't let me. It will be difficult to just go into the library and do it since I wwill be looking at pics from all categories. Suggestions? Thanks,

You can change the order with the different View options, but you can't manually arrange items in a Smart Album. Select all photos in the smart album and copy them into a regular album, where you can manually rearrange them.

  • How to restore photos with all albums and metadata to later version of iPhoto?

    Hi everyone
I recently had a hard drive crash on my "vintage" 2006 intel iMac. Got the HD replaced but the support service I used was unable to retrieve any of my data off it. Luckily I had all files backed up in a cloud service.
The support service reloaded Snow Leopard onto my new HD but using their own disks, not mine.
I've downloaded my iPhoto Library folder with all photos etc from my backup service and have tried to simply drop it into my Pictures folder to get back everything I had: photos, albums, photo metadata (I'm thinking Ratings in particular).
However when I open iPhoto I'm getting the message "You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photos using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto"
I'd appreciate any expert help before I continue. Does this suggest that the support service have loaded an older version of iPhoto than the one I previously had, or could it be the case that they in fact loaded a newer one?
What's my best course of action to fix this? I'm guessing that I could reload Snow Leopard from my own disks without running a disk erase and get back to the version of  iPhoto that I used to edit these photos before the crash - does that make sense?
I am not at all technically literate and well appreciate I may be overlooking or misunderstanding something.
    Any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks

6.0.6 is the latest version of iPhoto 6.
And no, unless you had iPhoto 08 or some later version already, upgrading will not fix the problem. It's a bogus message. If you did not open the Library with iPhoto 08 or later then the Library is corrupt.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How to sync photos on iphone album to iphoto

i recently got a new hard drive for my macbook, so all my photos on iphoto are gone. i still have the photos on my iphone, but they're in their own album, and everytime i try to sync my iphone to iphoto, i can only access the photos in the camera roll. is there a way to trasnfer the photos in the iphone albums to iphoto?

Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process - the original resolution of these photos are reduced on your iPhone. This is why Apple does not support transferring these photos in the opposite direction.
Photos on your computer's hard drive should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data. Did you lose all important data on your computer's hard drive, or just your iPhoto library?
There are 3rd party paid utilities that provide for transferring this data in the opposite direction, but such utilities are not supported by Apple and the original resolution of these photos is lost.
    Here is one.

  • How to create photo book from Album without cropping

I just came from vocation and try to make a cool photo book out of my "best pictures" selection. Most images are "as is" from camera, so have "standard" aspect ratio: H/W.
I also happy about composition and would like to keep all or most of it.
I tried several "cool" templates, but can not get results I want: iPhoto randomly place my images on random template, but the painful issue is that it is also randomly crops my images to fit these random layout. It probably try to make it look "cool", but it does not make any sense and does not look cool.
I can do it all manually and select template for every page, also, changing mask for every image (for some minimum of mask still crops more then half of image, so page layout have to be changed). I have about 200 pictures I picked for album and I am not happy about doing it 200 times.
It may work for me if iPhoto just flow images without cropping for fit? Extra bonus would be if I can select images I want "big", "medium" or "small"
Can iPhoto automatically create a simple PhotoBook for printing without killing most images with random and some times more than 50% cropping?

Canon S90 - it is Advanced P&S. When I say crop I does not mean a little bit on sides I mean iPhoto 11 some times crop 50% of image, some times try to zoom on faces. At any rate, most images just rendered useless. Say you have normal landscape picture of person holding some thing in his hands. iPhoto made super wide strip out of it to fit in 1+2 kind of layout, so what you see is upper half with face, object in hands completely out and you can not change mask as at minimal settings it is still cuts more than half of image out.
I tried many Themes, but I can not find one that would not destroy my images, that are very typical, hobbits images, with margin usually big enough for small fit crop, but as it is my trip record I would like to keep (naturally, no?) all details in.
Zoom of face may be cool, but when the rest of image lost, what the point?
I can go one by one, but this is time consuming for 200 images. It just make sense to have "preserve image" settings or "simple" photo book template some where... but I can no find it: all settings in iPhoto are kept to minimum , Apple style
