How to assign RDS 2012 R2 temporary license per RDS user CAL

we have setup  two RDS servers of 2012 r2 runnning with both RDSH roles, RDP-1 is the license server and in RDP-2 its pointed to RDP-1 to take license and licensing mode is set as per user. users are getting license in per user mode of 60 days validity.
Question is how to get temporary license assigned for users in per user mode, this is requirement for testing the license in our company as it is setup just now.So i have removed the pointing of license server in RDP-2 using Group policy, but still cannot
see a temporary license in RDP-1 -> License Manager.
Pls help to solve this issue.
Thanks,
Karthickraj

Hi,
As per my research by default there are 2 remote session available for administrative purpose only. Once you want more than 2 remote session for user to connect we need to purchase RDS CAL (as you know), activate the license server and then configure the purchased
RDS CAL with the help of MS Clearing house. There is no way to assign the temporary license, but when you install the RD License server, activate it and once user will get login by default will get user temporary license for specified days such as 60. Within
that time you need to purchase the CAL and complete rest process. You can get more information from following article.

  • How can I transfer a CC Indesign license to another user?

I am the IT manager so I purchased two licenses at two different times. They are all associated with my online ID. When I try to use the new license I am told that my ID is aleady in use on two computers — my desktop and laptop which I am legally allowed to do as I use them at seperate times. The problem is I cannot use the new license and when I try to create an account for the new user, I am told that the license is not associated with that user. It should not matter how many times I am signed in when I have purchased mutlitple licenses.

  • How to limit mail size of outgoing messages per domain/user

    Hello,
i want to limit the size of a mail a user can send. For inbound mail there are attributes in the directory service: mailDomainMsgMaxBlocks and mailMsgMaxBlocks.
But these limitations only enforce the size of incoming mail.
I've read the messaging server admin guide but all i could find out is that i could limit the size of outgoing mail via a channel.
For me this solution ist not granular enough. I want to set the outgoing mail size limit per user. Furthermore i don't know the impact of configuring 200+ channels for enforcing individual outgoing mail size limits per hosted domain.
Does anybody know a solution for this problem? Maybe i've read over something. Or can anybody tell me the performance impact of 200+ channels at least?
    Thank you very much,

    Hi jay_plesset,
thanks a lot for your clarifications.
Why would you need 200 channels? That sounds like a
very strange setup. Setting outbound max size per
user sounds like a very unusual demand, too.Let me explain: I got several departments who control their email settings in the messaging server via a webapp. So they can add, delete and modify users. They can manage mailing lists and so on. It's really a cool tool :-) I want this thing to be as granular as an own mailserver for the department would be. So it would be cool when the webapp writes an attribute like maxMsgBlocks in the DS and the thing is done.
I don't understand why you guys could do the stuff for inbound but not for outbound. Is there a technical reason or is it just because it seems strange? :-)
If you REALLY need something like that, 200 channels
would need a POOL of at least 200 jobs in order to
reliably run, and that's likely to need lots of
system memory.I think that's not the way i want to go.
Consider a custom channel, or something like that,
that does an LDAP lookup for setting message size on
sending. You'd need to enforce smtp authentication,
so you know who your messages are coming from, first,
and then you could proceed from there. This is not a
trivial setup.Sounds interesting. Any documentation hints for custom channels?
    Thanks again for your reply,

  • RDS 2012 Certificates help

    Hi all,
I am currently implementing a RDS 2012 infrastructure.
    1-2 RDS Host servers
1 server which contains the gateway and web access role (sits in the DMZ network)
    1 licensing server
So I have 4 RDS servers in total.
I have a internal and a external domain so for example:
test.com (external domain - public facing)
internal.com (internal domain - lan users)
1-2 RDS Host servers - INTERNAL
    1 Licensing server - INTERNAL
1 Gateway and Web Acess server - PUBLIC
Would purchasing a public san certificate work for my enviroment and applying to all four servers?
    If not, what would work?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
You can use single SAN certificate to achieve your goal as it can serve for all server. Apart there is some basic requirement to have RDS certificate.
Basic requirements for Remote Desktop certificates:
    1. The certificate is installed into computer’s “Personal” certificate store.
    2. The certificate has a corresponding private key.
    3. The "Enhanced Key Usage" extension has a value of either "Server Authentication" or "Remote Desktop Authentication" (1.3.6.1.4.1.311.54.1.2). Certificates with no "Enhanced Key Usage" extension can be used as well.

  • Mix up between 'permanent' and temporary licenses

    Dear all,
Up today all the 'permanent' licenses ( which we renew annually) were working Ok till we decided to upload a temporary license file into the system with more users to see if the system can support some functionality. Unfortunately, the newly uploaded temporary files had already expired - we delayed uploading them into the system. Now, even the 'permanent' licenses have just expired and users can login into the system but are not licensed to carry out any activity in the system.
Any help on how I can delete the new temporary license file and leave my old 'permanent' one although with fewer users will be appreciated.
Your suggestions and help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Davis M Onsakia

    Dear Gordon,
My license files had NOT expired because users have been working on the system since the start of the week and yet it was indicating that the licenses expired on 10th August 2009. Hence the only explanation i can give is that the temporary license file corrupted my other license file - may be SAP AG guys can explain this.
However, I have already sorted out the problem after my partner provided another license file - provided by SAP.
However, thanks for trying to help.

  • Decommissioning a RDS 2012 R2 Server

What is the proper way to decommission a RDS 2012 R2 server. We moved the CALs to another server, then removed the licensing role. Reboot and then remove all RDS roles and reboot again. Will this be enough or is there other thing we need to do?
I just looked in ADUC and see an OU Remote Desktop Server with the RDS server in it. I am guessing there are other things we need to do to remove it completely?

    Hi,
From your description seems you have performed all the steps and that’s the proper way for removing. Apart from this, there might some database left behind related to RDS server and we need to remove it for completely remove it.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • How to assign version in sales order and transfer to PP module

    Hi all
Users say that customer will require to produce/deliver old goods (we active revision level. The newest material version is D. But customer want version B). How to assign version in sales order and let PP user know the version customer want (MRP run and production order must use version B's BOM)?
    Regards,
    Rita

    Hi,
i have a query if you have implimented ECM this will serve the purpose but it also depends on how good the planning is, in ur client site ( out of SAP ) where planner will plan according to the customer requirement as to which version to be kept active for a date range. The ECO analysts(functional) or consultants will make the ECO changes for those dates.
In general for those type of customers (who needs old version) a different SO created under different document type which will create a production orders with specific order type depending on the assignment of requirement type and requirement class.
those specific production ordertypes can be inturn assigned to either different plant where your old version BOM's will be active.
You need to look into the custom settings in SAP to design the larchitecture to allign with other requirements. What i explained u is common methodology used.
    Hope this is clear..

    Hi Venkat,
When you create authorization object in RSSM you only assign info object.
How did you assign respective values?
once your authorization object is saved you should find it in PFCG. even if you go to expert mode for profile generation
    Check tecnical name.
Alternatively instead of inserting manually go to selection criteria  and the system will display all active authorization objects  and you can choose your object.

  • Open IE slow in RDS 2012

    Hi Guys,
Today one of the users connected to the RDS 2012 server. And she found that it took about 5 minutes to open the IE explorer. We deployed the RDS 2012 with session mode and other users worked well in this RDS server except this user.

    Hi,
Before deleting user profile, please try the following steps to see whether it can resolve your case.
    - Please make sure IE Enhanced security is disabled for Users in Server Manager
    - Try running following command in user account with add-ons disabled.
       iexplore.exe –extoff
If this helps then perform additional troubleshooting to determine which addon is causing the problem.
    - Try resetting IE settings to default under the test user account through Tools--Internet Options--Advanced tab--Reset button.
    - See if turning off Smartscreen filtering makes any difference
    - You can also try using process monitor as administrator and see whether user session is trying to access iexplorer.exe to different folders/registry keys/etc. that the user does not have access to.
    - Try lower version of IE and see whether it makes any difference.
For more details, you can refer below article.

  • Server 2012 - installing user cal error

    Hello,
we have set up a server 2012 and bought 4 User CALs for multiple acces.
RDS session host & collection deployment has been installed and configured.
however when i want to install the appropriate User CALs in RD Licensing Manager i do the following:
    1) click on install license
    2) enter the correct license program and agreement number
    3) select product version "Windows Server 2012"
    4) select license type "RDS per User CAL"
    5) select quantity "4"
and then on the next screen i receive the following error message:
"the licensing agreement data provided to Microsoft is not valid. Check all the information you provided, make any necessary corrections and then resubmit your request. if the problem persists, try using a different connection method."
i have checked RD Licensing Diagnoser and see the following errors/warnings:
"Licenses are not available for this Remote Desktop Session Host server, and RD Licensing Diagnoser has identified licensing problems for the RD Session Host server"
"Number of licenses available for clients: 0"
"The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but license server XXX  does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:
Product version: Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
    Licensing mode: Per User"
Additional information: we do not have a license server, so the same server has been specified as licensing server in RDS session host configuration.
    Any help appreciated!
    Best,
    Sebastian

    Hi Sebastian,
I recommend you contact the Clearinghouse and explain to them what is happening.  Please have your licensing information handy when you call.  If necessary you can switch the RD Licensing server to Telephone method and install the licenses that
    way.
Locate the Microsoft Clearinghouse Telephone Number for Your Country or Region
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754874.aspx
The link is for Server 2008 R2 but the instructions for finding the number are almost the same for 2012.

  • 2008 RDS user cal License moving to 2012 server

    Hello ,
We have moved the 2008 RDS User Cal Volume License to the 2012 server .
In the RDS license Manager it is showing usage is showing as Zero even though users are using the service.
It is issuing the temporary license.
Does anyone have document how to follow the migrations process from 2008 RDS User Cal Volume License to the 2012 server.
    please provide the resolutions.

    Hi,
Please describe in more detail you current server configuration and what steps you have performed so far.
    1. Are the users logging on to a Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH) server, or Server 2012/2012 R2 RDSH server?  If the RDSH server is 2012/2012 R2 then 2012 RDS CALs are required.  Additionally you need to configure the
licensing mode of the 2012 RDSH server to be Per User.  From your description it sounds like it is set to Per Device.  The licensing mode is set in the RDS deployment properties: Server Manager -- RDS -- Overview -- Deployment Overview -- Tasks --
Edit Deployment Properties -- RD Licensing tab.
    2. If the users are logging on to a Server 2008 R2 RDSH server, did you set its licensing mode to Per User and point it to the new 2012 RD Licensing server?  You can do this by logging on to the RDSH as an admin and opening RD Session Host Configuration
(tsconfig.msc) or by setting the appropriate group policy.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
RDS 2012 CALs can license 2008 R2 and 2008 session hosts. However, RDS 2012 CALs only can be installed on the 2012 Licensing server.

  • How do you configure a farm name in RDS 2012?

I understand Remote Desktop Services has undergo some drastric changes.
How do you configure a farm name in RDS 2012? Or is the concept around farm name changed in another concept?
Although I have imported a certificate on the RDCH withe the farm name I want to use. When I click on a RemoteApp on the RD Web Access portal, it does not connect to the right farm name.
Boudewijn Plomp, BPMi Infrastructure & Security

You don't.  You create a collection.  A client connects to the Connection Broker and then is redirected to the collection it is connecting to.  The collection name is embedded in the connection file that the client downloads from RDWeb or
    the RDWeb feed.
A collection is basically at least one RDSH server (for session based desktops) or one virtual machine (virtual machine based desktops).

No, what you're seeing is the actual webpage
For example, the BBC iplayer (www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer). Open this site in safari, add an icon for it to your home screen, then when you use this icon to open the iplayer it opens as if it is an app, it doesn't have the address bar or back and forward buttons etc.
Actually, it does. Or should do, ay least. It does for me
Also when you double click the home button the iplayer icon shows up with the rest of the apps (usually you just get safari there) and if you open safari and look at the pages you have open it doesn't show there. It really does look as though it is an app, although what I'm guessing is happening is that it is open in a new instance of safari.
    That's correct
My question is, does anyone know how to get a site to do this? I'm assuming there are some meta tags in the HTML but I can't find any references to this being possible let alone how to do it.
The site doesn't do it. Safari does it. All you have on your Home screen is the iPad equivalent of a webloc, a small text snippet containing the URL for whatever page you saved.
