How to associate .c4d file type to Cinema 4D?

I have opened After Effects CC multiple times, created and saved .c4d files from Cinema 4D Lite and dragged .c4d files onto both applications. I have also restarted the computer many times. The system is running on a new installation on Mac OS on a drive formatted just 2 weeks ago so there should be no issues from strange system changes.
The .c4d files still appear with a Terminal icon and association on Mac OS X. Even when I use "Open With". This is annoying because it is hard to visually find these files without the proper icon on them. They even have the Terminal icon when imported into After Effects.
How can I change the icon system-wide to be correct?

Unless you have a full version of C4D you will have to open C4D lite from inside AE. It's part of the licensing agreement and there is no way around it.
The Mac user forums have tutorials on creating a custom icon for file types. I'd look there. You can't associate C4D files with C4D lite because of the licensing.

Look at the association for the JAR extension, you'll find that it uses javaw.exe and the "open" action is mapped to some command line involving javaw.exe and %1 which represents the jar file to be executed. Now, for your extension make a very similar setup, only your "open" command line will look something like this:
"C:\...\javaw.exe" -jar YourSpecialJar.jar "%1" %*
That command line runs your jar file and passes the file being "opened" to the command line as the first parameter. (I don't know what the %* does but it's in the command line for the jar extension.)

I'm trying to associate a file type to a program.

I have tried right-click and get Info. But the program I want to open the file with is greyed out. How do I associate the file type when the program is greyed?

How to get the file type of current opening document (e.g., tif, jpeg, png) using JavaScript with Photoshop CS3.
I am using file object the open the files one by one in the folder (the files sometimes don't have the extensions).
If the current document is in tiff format then I need to convert to 8-bit, if its an Jpg image then needs to ignore the file.

Do you really need to know the file type? What about just checking the bit depth?

There are many ways of uploading any file type to R3, provided it depends on how do you want to store it.
In general there are two easy ways, one is using the upload UI element, you can specify a path in the server and have configured it for all files and store the file directly in the file directory of the server.
Secondly, you need to do some work on the sap side, like creating a simple rfc, which will take up the file content as a 'binary' (raw) data type and store in the database with the relevant parameters. you rfc will take / get the update from the webdynpro UI element ( you need to do create a model ..context / binding..etc ). The whole file will be stored in binary form.
Hope this gives you some picture of how to go about on it.

I have Windows Vista… and I tried to change the program to open file .url "Internet Shortcut" with Safari, I went to Start > Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
The 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program' dialog box is displayed.
Under the 'Extensions' heading, select '.url' and click the 'Change program…' button.
The 'Open With' dialog box is displayed.
But, Safari does not appear in the list of 'Recommended Programs', then click the 'Browse…' button.
A second 'Open With' dialog box is displayed, - Program Files - Safari - Safari.exe - Click 'Open' to open .url files with Safari, but Safari does not appear - continue IExplorer -
Safari is my default browser, but IExplorer has 3 out of 9 defaults (.mht, .mhtml, .url) and Safari has 8 out of 9 defaults (except .url)
Why Safari set as Default Browser does not open .url files (Internet Shortcut) ???

yes, it's not in your list of recommended programs.
Click Browse and find your "Safari.exe" file.
If you can't find Safari.exe, do a search for files and click "Advanced" to search for system and hidden files too.

I am not sure what you mean, but once you make a project. Then go to the share menu and you can export the project to iDVD, itunes, mobileme, quicktime.
Share export quicktime movie will allow you to export to a variety of codecs. What specific export are you looking to share the movie in? What is the final source that the movie will be displayed?

Take a look at the file filtering section in the InDesign CS3 sample script ImageCatalog.jsx to see how to look for file types. I'm assuming that you're using InDesign CS3, and that you're using the Mac OS--you didn't say.

Can't Associate AE File Types

I am running Adobe Creative Suites CS4 for my company. However, we had a file we needed to open so we also installed After Effects CS5.5.
However, now all the AE files open in CS5.5 and this doesn't work for us as our plugsin are installed in CS4. I've tried several times in Windows 7 to associate AE files back to CS4.I've tried through the Control Panel under Default Programs and the right click context menu by "Open With". The problem is when I nativate to the After Effects.exe for CS4, it WILL NOT load in the Windows menu to allow me to re-associate it. The only option remains CS 5.5.
Any way I can perhaps manualy associate these files by doing some kind of edit in the Registry?

How to convert flat file type from DAT to ASC

hello all
i am trying to download a flat file and trying to upload it in another program.
for this i am using gui_upload and gui_download function modules.
if i download the file as ASC and upload with ASC there is no problem.
if i download the file as DAT and upload with DAT its giving an exception invalid file type
if i download the file as DAT and upload with ASC its giving an exception bad data format.
but in real senario my customer is sending a flat file with DAT type and i am unable to upload it.
how to solve this problem?

I am trying to upload a video that I edited onto my hard drive in order to share and view it through different players. My problem is that after I upload the video, the players do not recognize the file type. How do I change the file type in order to view it with different players other than Adobe?

Did you ever say what version of Premiere Elements that you are using and on what computer operating system the program is running?
For now, I am assuming that you are using Premiere Elements 11 Windows 64 bit.
The .prel file is just the project file whose Timeline needs to be exported either
a. file saved to the computer hard drive for an upload at the web site's home
or
b. a direct upload of the Timeline content to the sharing site provided for in Online/YouTube or Facebook or Vimeo with the preset offered.
If the Premiere Elements Online features do not meet your needs, an you want to export and save the file for upload to YouTube, Facebook, or Vimeo, you check out the video sharing requirements of the site of interest

If you decide that you want the file involved to be .wmv, then you visit Publish+Share/Computer/Windows Media and set the export settings there under the Advanced Button of the preset.

I have the same problem, unfortunatelly there's no standard way to do this and developing
custom repository services or upload commands may not attend totally my requirements.
An idea is to create FSDB CM Repositories or to map external File System repositories for
specifics needs, so once the documents are stored into a file system (windows in my case)
it's simple to implement the organization's policy, be it file types, maximum folder size, clean-up routines, etc..
However there are pros and cons, some services are not available and there are some restrictions,

As for the original folders on DB mode, we've been running KM detailed reports once a week
