How to autoincrement a numerical column?

I am familiar with using Informix's serial datatype... and am looking for something similar in Oracle. Is it possible create a column with an autoincrementing number in it that is unique to each row?
I really appreciate your help.

There's no such method or datatype like that. However, you can do this in 2 different ways:
(1) create a sequence and assign sequence.nextval to column through before insert database trigger.
(2) using the following query :
select nvl(max(column),0)+1 into a from table;
column:=a;
in the before insert database trigger

While altering the Numeric column, did you change DECIMAL precision and scale too??
I think you might be altering the scale because, run the below example in ssms.
CREATE TABLE #TABLE
Sal NUMERIC(10,5) NOT NULL

SELECT * FROM #TABLE
ALTER TABLE #TABLE

How to make a select list to return value to numeric column?

I do have a select list with static values (STATIC:01;0,02;1,03;2,04;3,05;4,06;5,07;6,08;7,09;8,10;9). The problem is that I am returning a value to a numeric column. Therefore I have set 'Post Calculation Computation' as "to_number(:P73_MRGRATING, 9);" however I am getting ORA-01722: invalid number. How, (or when and where) to properly convert a character from a select list representing a numeric value into column of NUMBER data type?

It is because I am not able convert a value in a page item (:P73_ID) to number. On a page before, I have assigned a value to an application item (APPL_ID). On page 73, I want to assign the value in APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID . The value assigned to APP_ID is numeric. On a page 73 I also have a computation in Page processing section. It is an 'After Submit' processing of a static assignment of application item APPL_ID to page item P73_ID. Unfortunately it does not work. (ORA-01722: invalid number). I have tested this also with a 'Post Calculation Computation' on page item P73_ID (to_number(:P73_ID, 9999999999);) and I am still getting ORA... error. Only way I can make it work is to create a page item P73_ID as a text field, then when I run page 73 and enter a value into P73_ID manually - then it works and I can save the values from the form into database...
The strange thing is that I am using application item APPL_ID on a couple of pages, in where clauses and it always works, even when I am comparing APPL_ID against a numeric value like select * from a_table where some_number = :APPL_ID, this works. But when I would like to create an entry form and assign application item APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID that is referencing a numeric table column â then I am getting ORA-01722â¦
Is there any application (sample application) that is doing this and it works so I can check it and learn how to create this process appropriately?

I would like to know how can I modify one column of current and next record depending of some criteria using SQL2012?
The criteria is:
Type should always flow F->T
if current abs(amount)> next abs(amount) then groupid = 'PD'
if current abs(amount)< next abs(amount) then groupid = 'PI'
there is no case when those amounts will be equals
where current(custid) = next(custid) and current(service) = next(service) and groupid is null

Do not try to insert LONG datatypes into other types of columns.

The lookup type column sort function is working in my environment(RTM version number 15.0.4420.1017), you can create a new simple list with for a test, see if it could be reproduced, or be an isolate issue.
Also check if list view has sorted by some columns.

Having numeric columns formatted based on user location

How can we get the numeric columns to be formatted in local format. If the same application is accessed in US we want the numbers to be in 1,222,333.44 format and if the application is accessed from say France then we want the numbers to be shown in - 1 222 333,44 format. How cna we specify this in ADF application/JSF page. I tried adding <af:convertNumber> tag to the outputText in columns, but that is not working.
This is a problem in our application especially when the users are exporting the table results to excel sheet and they are not able to sum the columns as the numbers is shown in US format by default. Users are manually converting to local format and summing the columns. How can we avoid this ?
I am using JDev - 11.1.2.3

Set the format of the default language in the Entity of the Model Project, this will add this format into Model.properties
Create the same file with different suffix based on the locale and country required for example Model_fr.properties for french and change the Number Format.
When you change the Locale from default to fr the number format will be changed automatically.

How to perform calculations using column data in BI Publisher

Hello guys
I am very new to BIP, and recently I am learning to create new templates using XML files..
I am trying to create a report that has Account Amount, Amount Net Amount, PM_Amount and a New field say "X"
For Account Amount it is what it is, but for Net Amount it is "Account Amount/40%", for PM_Amount it is "Net Amount x (Account Amount/30)" and for field X it is "(Net Amount + PM_Amount)/column A" where column A is another data field in the XML file but it should not be included in the template report..
Could anyone help me with how to perform such kind of calculations in BIP Template builder? In OBIEE, it is very easy that I can just use column formula, but in BIP I still haven't figure out the way yet..

I looked at the link you provided already, what I wanna know is how to exactly apply the expression in my calculation. In other words, I know that Column C = "Column A div Column B", but in BIP form property, how do I actually substitue "column A" with the actual column..
I wish I could post the XML, but it is huge, it contains 6 data sets and more than 100 columns. I only need 15 columns on my template.
On the form property of each measures, in the "advance tab", I see codes like <?accountamount?>. Now I wanna have a new column said "PM_Amt" which should be "(accountamount div %40) x column B". So I just randomly select another column said "payment". I rename it to "PM_AMT" and on its "advanced tab" it is still <?payment?>. So right there, if I wanna replace that code with a new one that does "(accountamount div %40) x column B" calculation, how would I do it? What would be the syntax including how to propertly refer to the right column field as part of the expression?
And do I have to always use xdofx between <>? how would I know?
Please advice if you understood what I am trying to say

How to wrap text for column level field

Hi,
In iSourcing module. I have requirement for RFQ response page. I have to wrapt text of table level column.
Screen have total 6 columns. First column heading is Line. This column displays item description. Length of Item description in VO is 240 characters.
Presently entire 240 characters are displayed in one line only. Because of this user has to scroll towards the right to see remaining columns.
Requirement is to wrap this first column contents so that all columns will get visible without scrolling.
How do I set this wrap functionality on this column through Controller?
I tried by following ways, but no luck,
1. In processRequest method
OAFlowLayoutBean ls_line = (OAFlowLayoutBean)oatablebean.findChildRecursive("Line");
if(ls_line != null)
ls_line.setWrapEnabled(true);
In personalize options of “Line” field there is no option for “No Wrap” property.
How can I achieve this column wrap functionality?

Believe it or not, the same FM worked for me in a dynpro. I will try to explain here how it works in custom screen and then you can do your work for other screens or program types. I am not going to write my actual work but will explain in general.
I have 4 fields (FLD1, FLD2, FLD3, FLD4) and i made the search based on FLD2 and when user click on a line (could be any field), then this would bring the line on to the screens.
There are like 3 steps.
You have your value_tab for my fields FLD1, FLD2, FLD3 and FLD4. This is just the data that we pass into the FM. (data: IT_VALTAB type table of ZVAL_TABLE)
Next map the screen fields into an internal table (data: It_dynpfld type table of dselc ). I also have other internal tables defined (just to keep it straight, i will be putting here) data: It_return type standard table of ddshretval.
Next step is to call the function module. Make sure you have values in IT_VALTAB.

How can I make a column of sums out of a repeating pattern of 24 changing numbers in Numbers.
I have a long list of 8760 numbers of which I need to take the sum (and store in a column) of each 24 numbers.

Here's one way. I've reduced the example, taking groups of five numbers from a set of 20. I've used 3 as the data number in all cases to make the sum easily recognizable.
Original column of numbers in Data::column A.
Data::B2 (and filled down): =QUOTIENT(ROW()+3,5)
This adds 3 to the row number, then divides by 5, returning the quotient and ignoring the remainder.
The result is a 'group number' for each group of five rows.
Sums of each group are reported in the Sums table.
Sums::A2 (and filled down): =ROW()-1
Sums::B2 (anf filled down): =SUMIF(Data::$B,A2,Data::$A)
For your example, assuming the 8760 numbers are listed in column A of a table named Data, starting at cell A2:
Add a second column to the table (column B).
In B2 enter the QUOTIENT formula above, with these two revisions:
=QUOTIENT(ROW()+22,24)
Fill down to all cells in the column.
Provided you have named the first table "Data", both formulas in the Sums table will be as written above. You will need to extend the Sums table to 366 rows (including the Header row) to accommodate all 365 groups of 24.
