How to automate 2 actions in System Preferences?

I'd like to automate clicking to hide the dock and hide the clock in the menu bar.  I tried to record this using Automater.  System Preferences needs to be open and on he home view for this to work.
Also, automater sometimes hangs and there is no way to kill it or gain control of your Mac when this happens.  Any ideas how to automate these task?

problem, how do i get back my system preference? i think i delete it my mistake.

did you delete it from your dock or did you delete it completely from the computer
if it has just been removed from your dock all you have to do is go into your application folder and drag the system prefrences icon back to your dock .. if you are running an older version of osx go into finder click applications and find the icon for system prefrences there .. if you have snow lepord you can get the icon in the application folder on the right side of your dock
if it has been deleted completely from the computer use the disks that came with your computer to reinstall it
if your too nervous to do it yourself you can always make an appt with an apple store in your area at the genius bar and they can probably get it back for you

  • How do I find accounts in system preferences?

I don't know how to reply to an answer to my question.
It said go to accounts in system preferences BUT there was no Word or Email in there.
Since this is a 2 part question, please be specific.
    I have a 10.8.3 Imac

    Klaus1,
I don't understand why you asked me what question, when I stated I could not reply.
I think I found it after I clicked on your name then mine. But I'm not sure how I did it. To answer you------- YES , it goes with a seperate question.
I can't find how to delete the email & Word from opening upon startup of my computer.
Do you know where accounts is ?
When I went to users, neither email or Word was in there.
    Thank You,

  • How do I get rid of System Preference panels that are incompatible?

I need to delete 3 Leopard-incompatible System Preference panels. How do I get rid of them?
(I am currently working on making a new clean install, but I'm using an update-from-Tiger installation until I get my applications and preferences setup on this).

Thanks! I knew it had to be something easy; I just didn't try the right key-combination. For me, without Mighty Mouse, it's ctrl-click to equal a right click.

  • How to set the region in system preferences?

Hi all. I just bought my macbook pro with retina. I choose the country as United States when I set up the mac. After that it asks me whether to transfer documents from another PC. So I transfered my documents to the new mac. There are some Chinese documents.
Now calendar displays the dates in Chinese instead of English. I tried to set the region to US in system preferences and restart the system, but it always change back to "Chinese" in the region tag.
How can I make my mac into a pure English one?
    Thanks a lot!

Open autoexec.bat in texteditor. This is an example from my autoexec, win me. Running resin
    SET CLASSPATH=c:\jdk1.3.1_01\bin\;c:\andreas\resin\bin\jsdk23.jar;c:\Jimi\JimiProClasses.zip;
    SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;c:\jdk1.3.1_01\bin\;c:\andreas\resin\bin\jsdk23.jar;c:\Jimi\JimiProClasses.zip;C:\Program\MtsAndreas

  • How to delete su-elements in "System Preferences/Others"

I'm trying to delete a doubled element (done by mistake) inside an application located in "Other" within "System Preferences"
    More precisely:
    - I've "USB overdrive" app control on this location: "Other"
    - By error, whoever it is, in "Status" window, there are two "USB Receiver" lines
How can I delete one of those?

In System Preferences, right-click on one of them and select Remove.
I'm not sure how that will affect the other. If two status menus are still there, cmd+drag one off the status menu area.

  • How to get rid of old system preferences??

I recently upgraded (using Migration Assistant) from a PPC G5 to a new Mac Pro. I still have the APC "PowerChute" system preference, even though I don't have the PowerChute software (or at least I have nothing with that file name). PowerChute doesn't work on Intel machines, and it's my understanding that all of that functionality is handled by Energy Saver in Snow Leopard.
So how do I get rid of the PowerChute icon in my system preferences??
    Tks!
    Butch

I assume it's in the bottom line, labelled 'Other" - control-click on it to remove it.

  • How do I do I stop System Preferences from Launching in Mountain Lion when I switch on?

Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, system preferences opens every time although I quit it when shutting down and the box is unchecked for reopen windows when I shut down and I have ticked the box in General to close windows when quitting an application. I have read the other answers but it is not in log in items or any of the start up or launch folders so I cannot prevent it. Any ideas or am I stuck with it opening each time?

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • How Do I Disable .Mac in System Preferences?

Is there some way to disable or lock .Mac in system preferences? I need to prevent users from moving data from Mac to .Mac account.

If I had sensitive data on a Mac and I needed to account for it's use and location, .Mac provides an opportunity for movement of data without authorization. I need to be able to restrict .Mac use or disable it completely for each user on a single system.

  • HELP. Trying to find out how to reboot or reinstall my System Preferences

It says I'm supposed to hold Control R when trying to do a system reboot, this isn't working for me. A couple days ago I accidentally deleted the System Preferences and I'm trying anything to get it back, does anyone have any suggestions, please?

do you have lion?  : ) you probably do because you are pressing the cmd-r key, but thought I ask.
the easiest way that I can think of that you can recover the System Preferences is by copying that from another Mac.
If you have time machine, it will be there too.  And the 3rd option is Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/).
btw, did you check the trash?  maybe it is still in there : )

  • How do I unstick .mac and system preferences for sync?

I've been running 10.4.11 on my powerbook g4 with 3g iphone to sync. That works fine. Today I cannot get system preferences to sync with my .mac (mobile me) account to sync calendars and addresses with my desktop imac which is running 10.5.8. The system preferences seems stuck in the laptop, and I have to force quit to get anything to work. I just had the laptop looked at by mac technician before a trip and everything was ok hardware wise and they checked out other things briefly. The only recent software update was iTunes.

    Alice:
First go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left column and First Aid in main column.
Click Repair Disk Permissions at bottom left.
If that does not help try Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior

  • I recently installed the xbox 360 controller app so that I could play my rockband drums in logic and ableton live but I installed the wrong one and I was wondering if anyone knew how to uninstall it from the system preferences page and the whole program?

If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it and if anyone knows how to use the drum pads for those programs I mentioned would be great? I found a couple sites for using it with garageband but nothing as for mainly live and Im running OSX 10.6 so if anyone out there knows please let me know!!! The main reason I think I installed the wrong one is when I plug in the rockband drum kit to my usb port it dosen't show up in the xbox controller program but it lights up and I've tried all my different usb ports to see if that might be whats wrong but I still show nothing and I've also installed junXion and nothing shows up there either. So if anyone has any ideas just let me say thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

    Hi Bonny,
Spotlight only finds somethings sometimes if that's how you searched.

  • How to set system preferences globally?

    Hello!
I am trying to change preferences for all users who log into a system. For example, I want the screen saver to timeout at 10 minutes and require a password immediately after the screensaver starts. When a new user is logged in, this defaults back to 15 minutes and not to require a password after the screensaver is active.
I have modified the default user 'profile' but the settings do not stick for new users. How can I force settings in System Preferences to apply to all accounts, current and future? These systems are in an enterprise environment, but since they account for 0.001% of our entire system inventory, we do not run Open Directory and they will not be managed via AD. I would like to configure them as locally (and simply, most technicians here have no experience with OSX) as possible.
Thanks for any and all input!

Creating a new user account on the machine requires a Admin account, so while there, set everything else up too and create a cheat sheet to expidite the process later.
Mac's are consumer machines, not for enterprise level use, they allow a certain degree of personalization.
Even in General User one is allowed to change the Desktop background and screensaver time.
If you want to lock the machines down. use something like DeepFreeze and set a nightly shutdown time and morning reboot. Everything will be set back to what you set it up like.
Apple uses that on their store machines, save files to NAS or external.
After awhile the users will avoid making changes to their machine and of course hate your guts.
