How to automatically number sections in Pages 5.2?

I'm trying to create a large, structured document with section numbering. When I apply numbered lists against the header styles, though, the numbers don't increase from section to section as each header is used, they all stay at 1, despite the fact I've set the style to "Continue from previous". Is there some trick to getting a numbering system to work in section headers?

In TeX and in MS-Word I can have automatically numbers sections and subsections, and the numbers automatically appear in the table of contents.
In TeX and MS-Word I can have automatically numbered figure and table captions and can refer to them in the text, and they automatically renumber when I move sections of the text.
how can that be done in Pages?

As far as I know, Pages does not support automatic numbering of Sections or insertion of Section Numbers onto the page header, footer, or body, nor does Pages support automatic numbering of figures, tables, or their captions.
If these are essential features, you'll need to continue using software that does support these. You might also want to Provide Pages Feedback (see the Pages menu in Pages) making a request for the addition of these features to future versions of Pages.

How do I number columns in Pages '08?

Hey all,
I was hoping you guys can help me with a very simple question I have. I was wondering how would I go about numbering an entire column in Pages? For instance, let's say I have a document which contains 2 columns and 10 rows. In this document i would like to have the left column to be numbered. So basically, the rows in the left column are numbered sequentially 1 through 10.
The way I would do this in MS Word was to highlight an entire column, then goto the formatting palette, choose "bullets & numbering" and click on the "numbering" button... Word would then automatically number every row in the selected column 1 to whatever.
Is there a way to do this in Pages '08? I've tried highlighting a column with the inspector, going over to "list" and choosing "numbers" and I'm having zero luck. What it does do, is put a number "1" in the first row of the left column which promptly disappears when I click out of the row. Help?

It sounds like you are using a table. If so, doing the numbers should be easy. Although this picture is from Numbers, filling a series of numbers works the same in a Pages table. Type 1 in the first cell & 2 in the cell below it. Now select both cells, click the tiny circle at the lower right of the second cell & drag down to fill with consecutive numbers. This also works with other number patterns, dates, alphabet, etc.

How do I create sections in page layout mode?

The "section break" option is always greyed out in page layout mode.
But I want to create a newsletter with a cover page and then the other three pages will have different headers and footers and I want repeating images on them. This would seem to be quite normal for newsletters. Even the template newsletters do this, but they do do it manually, repeating the images for each page, and manually creating a header and footer for each page.
I can do it word processing mode, but this is a page layout task - as indicated by Apple including the newsletter templates in the page layout templates.
Is there anyway to create sections in page layout mode??

If you compare Page Layout mode with Word Processing mode, you'll see that every page is a separate section.
In Page Layout, you've got headers & footers, although it's possible some of Apple's Page Layout templates have it turned off, and you can turn off "Use previous headers & footers" on the first page after your cover page, so it seems to me like it's possible to do what you're trying to accomplish.
A "section break" is a special character you place in the body text of a word processing document to force a new section (see also: page, column, layout, paragraph, and line breaks). In Page Layout, there is no body, and sections/pages are controlled by the Page Thumbnail View.

How to automatically capitalize i in pages 5.0?

I just updated my MacBook to Mavericks and I found the lastest verion of Pages won't allow me to automatically capitalize "i". Same thing happens to the first word of a sentence, I used to be able to do that. If anyone knows how to solve this, I will truly appreciate. It was not horrible experience when I had to type my 10-page-long essay last time. Thank you!

Assuming Pages v5 on OS X, you place your pointer at the top of your document, and then Insert ▸ Section. You can verify this by View ▸ Show Page Thumbnails.

How to automatically remove the wiki page's images from the Images library , when a wiki page is deleted

I have noted the following strange behavior inside my Publishing enterprise wiki site collection. Now by default when I create a new wiki page and I add Pictures to it, the pictures will be saved under the “Images” library and will be inside a unique folder
that have its name similar to the page name.
But when users delete the picture from the wiki page or they delete the whole wiki page, then the related folder inside the “Images” library will not be removed. So can anyone advice if there is a way to automatically remove the page’s pictures
folder from the Images library when the page is deleted? as currently i might end up having many pictures inside the Images library which are not linked to a wiki page, and they will waste my server desk space...

I think, not sure, there's no out-of-the-box solution in SharePoint for this problem. So I can only think of custom solution:
In event Receiver, ItemDeleting, you can delete images. The only downside is if some other pages are referring the images..... you need to check somehow which is quite time-consuming operations if you have thousand of pages in wiki library
A timer job, that will run periodically, every day or week, and clean all unused images.
Hide the default delete button and add your own. And then using your own custom layout page, show a 'configuration dialog' to user if they want to delete both page and images.

How do i number headings on pages.

when i number my first heading as 1. and write a paragraph i execpt to have 2 when i insert a number for the second heading but i still get 1 and i do not know how to change it to 2. any help will be very helpful. thanks

Try this:
Number heading, then at the end of that line enter "line break" Type text. The next hard carriage return should start a new heaing with correct number.
Line break is on style ribbon under ----->|

How to automate the adding of page numbers to bookmark and how to export bookmarks?

I am using Acrobat 9 Pro (not aware of any miningful reason to upgrade).
Also, if someone knows about a decent application that is capable of combining PDFs into a PDF file of size larger than 2GB that would be highly appreciated.
Acrobat can combine but can't save files larger than 2GB...

Another thing to consider: the iPad has a specialized processor that puts it in the ballpark of a laptop on processing speed, but the smaller amount of RAM becomes obvious when working with bigger files. I had a graphics intensive Pages file with a few hundred shapes and images plus 100 pages of text. Typing near the beginning of the document became painfully slow, since all content that followed needed to be pushed and rerendered with each keystoke. You need to put the code inside your flash movie rather than
in the html that you have shown.
Open your movie and make a new keyframe on the last frame of

You can do this using a meta refresh but the problem is you have to add it to the html file for the page very time you publish changes.
A better way is to create a splash page and upload it to the server outside of the folder produced by iWeb. Example HERE.
The meta refresh is added to the head section of the html file...

AFter the latest download, my e-mail service keeps getting a bar at the top "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page". I have to keep hitting the "Allow" link? How do I get rid of this?

Ever since the last update, I'm having problem accessing my e-mail account. I keep getting an annoying bar at the top of the screen "Firebox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page." I have to keep hitting the allow button, sometimes twice. And when I do get into the accounts the bar jumps in and out every time I open a new e-mail, or delete and old one.
How do I get rid of this. I've had this account for years, with a very reputable private e-mail provider. This is nuts.

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
