How to autoupdate firefox from a specific share folder insted of going directly to FF website

You can ''auto-update'' Mozilla Firefox from '''Menu button''' > '''Help''' > '''About Firefox'''.
There,Firefox will download a package with the '''latest version'''.After downloading you must '''Restart''' the browser to configure the installation.
Some of '''Add-ons''' can be ''incompatible'' with the '''latest version''' of Firefox if these aren't '''updated''' or '''recent updated'''.

How to stop Firefox from checking for add-on compatibility every time it opens?

That can be a problem with the compatibility.ini file in the Firefox profile folder.
Try to rename (or delete) the compatibility.ini file in the Firefox profile folder to see if that helps.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can also check for problems with preferences.
Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

I go to a website(link, etc...) & I never want to go there again, but sometime(anytime) later I come across some page that seems to be useful. This happening for many different sites over time.

    Hello Cen.
You need to find an extension that blocks certain sites. I am certain there are many. Search over at [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].

  • How to stop Firefox from launching everytime I turn on my MacBook?

    Hi Everyone,
Everytime I turn on my MacBook, Firefox launches. It really bugs me, and I tried to stop it, but couldn't find how, either in system preferences or in the firefox menus.
Can someone please help and tell me how to stop it from happening?
    Thanks already,
    Quentin

This usually happens because you've added the application to the Login Items list in the Accounts preferences. Open Accounts preference, click on the Login Items tab, locate the Firefox entry, select it then click on the "-" button to delete it.

  • How do I stop Firefox from giving various options regarding log in info for a particular website?

How do I stop Firefox from giving various options re log in info? By mistake I typed in my password at the end of my email address and want to stop this from popping up where, every time I go to log into this site, all can see the password tacked on to the end of the email address. I deleted the history and this does nothing, the next time I go to the site and begin to log in by typing my email address it automatically gives all the options from prior attempts, including the one that has my password tacked onto the email address for anyone to see

You can use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:
#click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
#highlight an entry in the drop-down list with the mouse or cursor Down key<br>do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
#press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry

Details like websites remembering you (log you in automatically) are stored in a cookie.
So you can clear the Yahoo cookies to make Yahoo forget about you in case you put a checkmark in the box to have Yahoo remember you.
You can inspect and manage the cookies for the domain in the currently selected tab:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Click "View Cookies" to view the cookies for the domain in the currently selected tab

  • How to prevent Firefox from playing any kind of video in the browser instead of promting a download dialog

When i klick on a link for a video files (for example a .wmv File) it opens a new tab and starts playing it, instead of giving me a dialog what it should do with the File so that i can either download it or play it with an external player. I already set all the video files in the "options -> Applications" screen to "Always ask", but instead of asking me, it's simply playing them.
What can i do to prevent firefox from playing videos?

Tahnks, but that doesn't help me at all. As i said, i already changed all to "Always Ask", when i Filter for media i get 5 results where each says "Always Ask", so thats not the cause...
I realized yesterday that this does not happen with all formats, it happens with wmv but not with avi... but still dont know y -.-

  • How to stop Firefox from Startup?

Hey, I believe this problem is part of a bigger problem.
I have tried suggestions in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/989230 to the letter and yet nothing can fix it.
For those that doesnt want to click the link or copy-paste it. The problem is this:
Upon startup, Firefox opens automatically to my homepage. This happens recently ever since Windows 8.1 Update on 15th July, 2014. What also happens during the update is that my ultrabook that supposed to have instant-on feature nwo seems to be ultra-slow on startup and extremely slow when shutting down.
No programs have been installed other than the 8.1 patch update and the only different before and after the update is that now Firefox start up instantly.
    Solutions that I have tried:
    1) Task Manager > Startup > Wanting to simply untick Firefox to startup but no Firefox is there
    2) Open CCleaner > Startup > Still no Firefox on it
    3) Searched msconfig > startup >goes to task manager > repeat step 1
    4) Went on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx on the top link for windows startup > No Firefox detected whatsoever, 4-5 Yellow entry and 1 red
4a) Have no clue what these means, what i notice is that the yellow couldnt locate the file and the red is just there not doing anything i presume.
These are the four steps I tried to no avail and I am becoming highly confident that Firefox autostart is causing my laptop to start up slower than my windows 95 pentium 4 computer i have at the corner of my room.
Any suggestions other than the ones I tried would be welcome.

    Is Firefox your default browser?
Ok dug a little more and there is a msconfig option I would recommend taking a look at.
    # Run cmd.exe
    # then type msconfig and hit ENTER
    # Check in General what options are selected
    # This took me to the Task Manager and I right clicked and "disabled" Firefox
    # Then go to this folder:
    # %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
    # Check if Firefox is in there.
    Looking forward to your reply.

  • Sharer folder issue between two directly connected PC

Dear All, I have an issue regarding folder sharing. need your help to resolve this. the scenario is
two PC's are connected directly to share a folder, to open *.mdb file of a accounting software. this problem start when I moved windows XP PC's and installed windows 7 64 bit PC's. there is no compatibility issue as I run the same software on other
    locations
PC A (192.168.1.200) has that *.mdb file and PC B (192.168.1.100) has to open this file through a network.
when I configured the folder share  and network setting, all done well and PC B can connect with PC A and that software work well. After two days, when we start the software at PC B, its not responding when  it try's to open that database file.
while analyzing, I found out that PC B can open the share folder of PC A but when open the desired database folder explore starts not responding and need to quit it by force. I also tried to share another folder of PC A but results are same.
PC A run the software with out any problem.
It seems like network issue, so I check the cable with cable tester, found it good, than I check the connectivity by ping command, it giving me <1ms time. but still change the connectors.
the hard part is that, this share folder issue arises 3-4 days a week and 2-3 days it works well, and this is happening from last 28 days. I mean, one day we start the the PC B and use the software via network, the next day we start the PC B and we don't
    able to use the software,..strange.
I also change the cable connection from cross to straight as both new PC's have gigabit Ethernet but results are same.
I already contact with software company, as per them its network issue as we can use the software on local PC (PC A) and there is no error messages popup.
please help me out in this regard.
    Thanks Tanveer

    Hi,
Firstly, we need to identify is this file sharing or netowrking problem. If you can access to the shared folder and modify its files which locate at PC B through PC A, it indicates file sharing works with no problem.
After that, we need to check if its networking or software itself problem when reading the .mdb file.
Put the .mdb file at PC A, then using the software open it for test. If no problem, we need to use Process Monitor to capture the access trace of the software process, we should be able to find some clues.
You can access to the link below to download Process Monitor:

  • How to stop firefox from going to a URL your most is hovering over when you type in a URL and press enter.

When you open a new tab and begin to type a url to visit, if your mouse is hovering over any of the suggested results when you press enter, instead of firefox going to the url you have typed, it goes to the url that the mouse was hovering over.
Is there a way to disable this functionality as it is annoying when you are say, trying to access youtube or google, but then you goto a completely different page from your history because your mouse was hovering over a suggested result.

    @philipp:
I restarted in safe mode with all add-ons disabled and the problem still persists. Apparently a friend also seems to have this problem.
How to reproduce (to the best of my knowledge)
    1) click on url bar
    2) start typing part of a url which generates many results from history
    3) mouse over one of the results (usually the first as thats where the mouse is after clicking on the url bar)
    4) press enter with autofilled url in url bar
What happens is say that i start typing "goo" for google.com, firefox will auto complete with http://google.com, but since my mouse is hovering over a historic google search result it opens what ever my mouse is hovering over even though the url bar says "http://google.com"

  • How to prevent FireFox from automatically pinning itself to the Windows 7 taskbar

Please tell me how to permanently disable FF from pinning itself to the taskbar?
Every time I launch FF and then close it, it pins itself to the taskbar. If I wanted it to be pinned there, I would have done it myself.
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I have a FireFox link in the Quick-Launch area that I have re-added to the taskbar, so pinning FF to the taskbar is redundant and space consuming.

Set the Integer pref <b>browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes</b> to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes
That will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen other tabs.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore#Restoring_a_session_after_a_crash
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • How to keep firefox from constantly downloading mavericks, which it can'open?

I tried to update to mavericks, but am unable to open the files to install. From what I have read this is probably a good thing; however now firefox keeps on downloading the files and I can't seem to make it stop. Each time I open firefox the whole process starts again..

You should actually update to mavericks, it's a good solid update and plus, your version of Mac isn't getting security updates anymore, meaning it's vulnerable to attack (despite public opinion Mac isn't invulnerable).
This isn't really a Firefox question anyway..... You install Mavericks via the App store, not through Firefox. http://www.macworld.com/article/2056564/how-to-install-mavericks-over-leopard.html
