How to avoid color boost when exporting?

I noticed that the colors of any movie exported from iMovie 08 appear boosted i.e. stronger. No matter what codec I choose under "Share > Export using QuickTime" (Animation, AIC, Photo-JPEG) the colors are never like in the original. Can I export a movie and keep the original colors with this application?

I found out that MJPEG or PhotoJPEG compressed original clips don't get that color treatment.

    When you go to export versions, edit the presets, and there is a drop down box that lets you select the profile.
    I'd suggest picking up the Aperture book by Luna, Long, and Harrington. Lots of great info there.

    We have a bunch of FI reports created using OOPS in abap.  Each of the reports has the functionality to be exported to an excel spreadsheet.  When exporting to Excel, the headers are a very dark brown color, making them difficult to read and it has been requested that they are shaded a lighter color.  I have not defined any sort of color scheme within the report itself, and I was wondering if there was a way to change the color scheme when exporting the report to excel.  Let me know if there is anything that can be done, thanks!

    i would like to know how i can avoid the 'save as' dialogue when using the context menu to convert a word file to pdf using windows XP/acrobat 8/word 2007.
    so far, it always prompts me for the filename, which is annoying as it does not allow me to batch-convert several files and let the thing run its course.
    the solution provided by Steve in the other thread does not work - even if the plugin from word does not propt for a filename, it still does when triggered from explorer/context menu.
    so back to square one: how to avoid that dialogue when not opening word at all?

    For a permanent change, START>PRINTERS>right click on Adobe PDF printer and select properties>General>Printing Preferences>Adobe PDF Settings. Under the settings tab, uncheck the box related to asking for a name. Pretty sure that is the location, but it may vary with version.

    I'm not sure that I follow what you are saying..  But it sounds like when the VI is called, the LabVIEW development software is started and you want to avoid that.
    If you create an executable or dll and call that from within TestStand, it should not call the development environment.  You would need to have the LabVIEW run-time engine installed on the target PC. 
    It has been many years since I've used TestStand with LV, so my memory may not be accurate.  I think the above had worked for me.  However, it seems that I recall something about having the LV code in debug mode causing it to open the development environment.... but it's a distant memory.    You're not using breakpoints where the LV VI is being called, are you?

    Hello,
    I am a new user of Lightroom and I find color spaces topic a bit confusing so far. My main question is: when exporting a photo, does Lightroom convert to a profile or assign a profile? Because there is no way to choose. I tried to export a photo with 3 different color spaces (sRGB, AdobeRGB and ICC profile from laboratory where I print my photos). After exporting them to JPEG it turned out that all of them look differently on my monitor - does it mean that Lightroom assigns a profile? If it was converting, shouldn't they have the same colours? What is more, after printing them in laboratory, results were completely different than I expected - the photo which had closest colours to what I saw in Lightroom was that in sRGB, but that with ICC of Lab was very different (much colder colours).
    Where is the problem, or what aspect do I seem to misunderstand? Do I have wrong settings, should I use DNG to work with photos, should I export to TIFF, or I just have too weak monitor or wrongly calibrated one? Should I calibrate when viewing a picture in Lightroom or with the use of a photo exported to the ICC profile of Lab?
    I would like to have a little bit of control over what I'm working on, depending on whether I want to publish it on a website or print. I know that my monitor can be a problem (I have an iiyama with IPS), but surely there has to be any way to make results of my work a bit closer to my expectations.
    Just for information, my workflow doesn't require Photoshop, as I rather prefer to use only tools from Lightroom. I hope that my problem doesn't require the use of Photoshop.
    I will be really greateful for your help - the general knowledge about colour spaces seems to be unsufficient when it comes to the usage of applications such as Lightroom.

    What you mean by both? How should I interpret it? I cannot choose "convert" or "assign", so how they both work together? What does it mean for me wanting to process photo and print in Lab?
    I can only add, that those 3 photos which I exported to JPEG with 3 different colour spaces, they look different when viewing outside of Lightroom, ie. IrfanView. But when importing those JPEGs into Lightroom, differences are extremly slight. Is that because Lightroom operates in ProPhoto, which covers all colour spaces which I used, and other programs work in sRGB and those photos differently?
    And the last question for now: will the hardware calibrator help in monitor which is, let's say, medium cost and medium quality? I mainly use it for preparing photos to put them on the website gallery, but would be nice if I could print better ones with a bit of certainty about what I will get from Lab.

    When you export a photo from LR, it converts to the colour space you select (e.g. sRGB) and embeds the appropriate profile in the exported file. 
    If your monitor were calibrated and profiled, and you view with a colour-managed viewer then images should look pretty much identical no matter which colour space you export in.  (W7 Photo viewer is colour managed, the XP equivalent isn't, Mac s/w generally is.  IE and Chrome aren't properly colour managed, Firefox is for all images, Safari is for images with embedded profiles.  Other viewers vary.)  With colour-managed viewers, the only difference should be with very highly saturated colours outside sRGB colour space (and then only if your monitor can display those colours). 
    LR is colour managed.  If the monitor isn't calibrated/profiled then I think LR assumes the monitor has a colour space equivalent to sRGB (which is generally roughly right but won't be accurate).  Internally LR uses ProPhoto RGB colour space in develop module, but uses Adobe RGB in Library, and previews are stored in Adobe RGB.  However, the colour space LR uses won't explain why other viewers show things differently.  It's simply that LR is colour managed (which means it converts to/from the image colour space), and I guess the other viewers you're using aren't; they just throw RGB data at the screen without converting. 
    Is it worth calibrating and profiling your monitor?  Quite possibly.  Does the colour and brightness vary with viewing angle as you move your head from side to side?  If so, it may be TN technology, and perhaps not worth profiling.  If it looks reasonably stable with different viewing angle then probably yes.

    You’re asking for fairly archaic things here.
    You can put in a feature request but you’d need to explain how this would benefit the entire user base and IMO you’re going to have a rough time doing so.
    Bob, it might be archaic, but it's still used a lot in the publishing world. 
    in the book world, the new trend is for firms to do books in a co-edition format. The idea is to have one firm do all the work (normally in english). But then other firms from other countries and other languages will simply send a PDF of the text ONLY without the colors (cmyk).  So when I export the PDF I only need ONE color. I do not wish to export the whole CMYK.
    Do you understand where I am getting from.
    So in simplified terms.  The printer has 4 plates for the colours of the book and will simply change a 5th plate to the desired language.
    5000 copies
    CMYK plates
    5th plate: german text
    10 000 copies
    French
    exactly the same CMYK plates as german
    5th plate: switch to the french plate
    50 000 copies
    English
    exactly the same CMYK plates as german
    5th plate: switch to the english plate
    and so on....
    The cost is greatly reduced for everyone, but we need an option to export the TEXT only.
    You will simply say, but have the text in a separate layer. That is true, but in reality, it's not all the files that are built like that and most graphic designers will have the text on a separate spot color instead of a separate layer.  Unfortunately when I receive the file it's too late to do the changes.

    Using Lr4.1 on PC w/ win7pro laptop with external NEC multisync mmonitor-calibrated,  I've taken Raws made LR adjustments, then imported 3-10 images into photoshop layers for masking, merges, few if any color changes.  Then save as all layers as a psd, then flatten the psd and save as a tiff.  When I open in LR for any other minor tweaks, sharpening, dust spots, and do an export into SRGB or Adobe rgb, the colors are terrible.  Look nothing like what I see in LR.  I've heard people have minimal issues, but I am having major changes,  many times the collors will become dull and flat or very saturated when viewed.  As an architectural photographer I need these colors close to what I took.   If I edit in CR into PS I don't have this problem.  I assume its related to the prophoto RGB color changing, but I really don't know what's going on with the color space.  The color will appear different from my laptop monitor to the NEC by a lot which I understand a pro monitor will show more colors, but the color space shift is making a lot of work done in LR useless if I have to redo it all in CR.  How can I get LR to export the colors I see in LR into a srgb jpg and Adobe tiff?

    Lots of steps here:

    How do you get them into PS?  What do you mean by "imported 3-10 images into photoshop"?  Do you mean you use "Edit in.." from LR, and choose "Open as layers in Photoshop..."?

    How do you open in LR?  The normal process, after "Edit in..." is that you save in PS, and the image is automatically stacked in LR against the original (or one of the originals, if you open several by "Open as layers in Photoshop...").  How does it look now?

    Only now they look terrible?  They looked OK in LR originally, OK in PS, OK when back in LR, but when you export they look bad - is that right?  And as Victoria says, how are you viewing the exported images?

    It certainly shouldn't be due to colour space changing.  The whole point of colour management is that it deals with this. 
    Final points:  you say your monitor is calibrated.  You do mean calibrated and profiled with a hardware instrument (Spyder, Colormunki etc)?
    And, color settings in Photoshop, they should look something like this:
    Choice of working space should be ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB or sRGB, but not a monitor or printer profile.  Policies should all be "Preserve" and I recommend all the "Ask When" boxed be checked (so you are warned of mismatches).

    We recently upgraded to SQL 2012 from SQL2008 R2. I'm having a strange issue with SSRS2012.
    One of the report has conditional formattings on cell background colors. Everything works fine when render the report in browser or preview mode. However, the conditional formatting stop working when export the report to Excel (no issues if
    export to pdf). All cells are high-lightened with pre-defined color although it should only high-lighten those cells that fulfil the condition.
    Has someone encountered this issue before ? Thanks for any help.

    I have test the scenario in my testing environment, however, everything goes well when exporting to Excel format. The issue might be related to the expression for the conditional background color. To make further analysis, please post the expression as well

  • How to keep User Order when exporting a collection?

    I made a collection of about 300 VC's, chosen from many folders in my catalogue. These images were taken over a 10 year period, using 3 different cameras and having different names and file types. The collection was sorted by "User Order". I spent a good deal of time organizing the collection so that the images made visual sense when shown as a slide show on a digital album.
    I exported the collection to my hard drive as jpegs, and checked the box to place them back in my catalogue, in a designated subfolder within my parent folder. All went well except they are now completely out of order, and that order makes no logical sense whatsoever - not by date, metadata, filename, attributes, nothing that I can figure out. I have to start all over again to reorder them - something that will take several hours.
    What did I do wrong? How can I keep my designated user order when I export a collection? 
    I am using LR 4.3.

    Lightroom does not maintain user order upon exporting. It would make no sense when not exporting back to catalog, but when exporting back to catalog I can see that it may be desirable - consider making a feature request (Idea) here:

    In the mean time, I *think* what most people do to assure export ordering is to name the files according to desired order, then sort by filename. I could be wrong about that, but that's all I got.
    Beware: If said approach is adopted, one would not be able to do incremental exports and maintain such ordering (e.g. when single image added to publish service), so all files would need to be re-exported if such change was made.
    I have requested access to sort order and added-order via plugin for plugin-assisted remedy, but so far no go.
    Another idea (which may not be acceptable) is to use capture-time to maintain sort order of exported photos (via a plugin like Exportant), then it would be easy enough to maintain user order by manipulating capture time (of exported photos I mean, post-export), but then you'd lose the true capture-time, granted: capture time could be put into some other field, but that might foul things up downstream... hmm - sorry for rambling/brain-storming out loud.
    Maybe somebody else has a better idea.

    Or create the PDF in Illustrator and use Acrobat (Pro) afterwards to make links.

    Edit -> Preferences-> Security (Enhanced), Click on "Add File", and browse to your file.
    Click on "OK" button and check.

  • How to maintain pixel size when exporting?

    When exporting an edited image (ex: 20 MB) from Aperture to a desktop folder, I choose file>export>versions>jpeg original.  When I open the exported image in the desktop folder (it opens in preview), the Tools/Inspector window says that the image is now only 2MB.  This has not always happened.  Can someone tell me what I might be doing or not doing that is causing this, or what settings I need to change?

    JPEG is a lossy format that relies on two ways of reducing the file size. The first is the lossy part that throws away data that is percieved to be unimportant for human vision, the resulting data is then further compressed losslessly using the same type of compression zip uses (this is why zipping a JPEG doesn't lead to further size reduction).
    The more you throw away in the first part, the more likely the image is to suffer from 'compression artefacts'. The number you select on export determines how much data gets thrown away.
    I don't know what '12' officially means for Apple, but from eyeballing files, it seems like it throws away pretty close to zero. So a file output with 12 is top quality.
    Aperture has always worked the same way here, it hasn't changed during any update.
    However, some things that may affect it are:
    1) The effeciciency of the both compression algorithms seems to improve over time.
    So a year ago, a 20 Mega Pixel image might compress down to a 5MB file using a quality setting of 10. Today that very same file may compress down to a 4MB file at quality 10. But it's important to note, the quality of the file will be the same, quality 10. All that has happened is the more efficient algorithm has allowed an extra 1MB of file space saving.
    2) The raw converters periodically get improved with new rendering. One area that has continually improved in Apeture is noise supression and more natural sharpening.
    These impact the first part of the compression process. A noisy image with harsh shapening will compress less than a clean image with more subtle sharpening. So better raw processing can also impact the exported size. Note, this one works in both directions, an improved conversion that resolves more details will output a larger file size, whereas an improved conversion that gives less noise will output a smaller file size.
    So in your case, I think what was happening was you were not losing quality, just gaining file size efficiency, and now you have changed to quality 12, you are exploiting that file space saving by now outputting higher quality files.

    When i enter a data in page 1 ie Expense and move to next page page2 "AMOUNT_DETAILS", and enters data in page3 "SUPPLIER" and when i come back to page1 "EXPENSE" and also Page2 "AMOUNT" the data get cleared in Tab pages. There is no data again i need to enter the data manually.
    Can any one suggest me how to avoid this clear data.
