How to avoid darker color behind a gaussian blur effect?

I have used the effect gaussian blur with black text on top to make a logo.
My problem occures when I try to place the file on a coloured background e.g. a photo and print it. A darker colored area appears behind the gaussian blur. The logo is to be used by others and hence I would like to keep it a vector/illustrator file (not a pixelated photoshop file).
- I have saved it as an ai
- I have all the artwork in one layer
- I have tried object > flatten transparency (but then the area turns white)
- I have tried effect > Document raster effects settings (resolution 1200 dpi / add 35,28 mm around object)

- I use Illustrator CC v. 17.1.0. 64-bit
- the file is cmyk and I only use process colors
- the line is 8 pt and effect is applied with 8 px blur
- everything else in the document is outlines and some text and lines are crossing the blurred object
- color settings: European coated offset ECI
I hope I haven't missed anything. The logo is not launched, but I have enclosed I photo file that is similar and where the same problem occur. The file is placed in InDesign on a blue square and printed from InDesign to a OKIC8660 laser printer.
The light blue to the left is the correct color. The darker blue is not supposed to happen. The yellow is where the gaussian blur is applied.

  • Script to Edit Gaussian Blur Effect

    Hello
I have a complex piece of artwork which has to be scaled up by a factor of 10. No problem except the Gaussian Blur Effect will not scale.
Rather than go through each path and edit the blur amount (by a factor of 10) I had hoped I could write a script which would iterate through every path and if it had a Gaussian Blur Effect edit the value.
Looking in the AppleScript dictionary and online I can't see any way of accessing a path's Appearance or Effects.
I would be very grateful for some advice on this before I start the tedious process of manually changing the values.
    Regards
    Chris

    Hello Mark
Thanks for your prompt reply. I thought as much. It's disappointing really.
The select filters will not unfortunately be helpful because the blurs are different so I can't select all blurred items because I don't want to set them all the same and equally I can't pick one and select all with the same blur amount because I don't know if I have changed all of the items.
I've just got my head down and am selecting them all individually and editing them!

  • Gaussian Blur effect causing black frames when rendered.

I am only using one effect in my video, its the gaussian blur, and in the previewer it shows the effect being applied, however it shows random black frames in the previewer, I thought this was just a random previewer issue.
I then rendered the video but when the blur effect is being applied it is showing random black frames in the video.

Talked to customer support and found out that it was a duplicate Gaussian Blur effect on the same frame causing it to have some issues sigh*
But thank you for the info about the media cache, I did not know about that.

  • Missing tools in Fast-Blur effect, Gaussian Blur effect, ...

    Hey there,
I'm using Premiere Pro CC and I was just about to mask an object in my video with the Fast-Blur effect (Schneller Weichzeichner in german and as it can be seen in the attached image).
But when I apply this effect to my video it won't show me any tool I could apply it with. It's the same with any blur effect, such as the Gaussian Blur.
These tools should be right above the adjuster from 0 to 127. Any idea?
    Thank you
    Peter

If you want to use the mask tool you need to update to CC2014 (8.2). It looks like you are atill on CC7.

  • How to remove background color behind submit button?

    Hey there...
I have customised my submit button using CSS and for some reason a grey background color is still showing up... I have used PNG files with a transparency which is how I can see the background color... I have been looking every where to figure out how to take the grey out from under the images... can some one please help...?
The images are placed using "backgroud-image" in the class "cat_button"
Link to an example is here... http://svx0.businesscatalyst.com/pages/contact

    Hi Liam...
Thanks for the response ... but I am aware that the images I placed are grey...
I mean that their is a darker grey color under the images...!!
..the images have rounded corners with an alpha transparency and in each corner there shouldn't be any color other than the main background... body, container background...?
If you look at the image I have attached... you can see that the corners ... and even all around the button there is a darker grey which I can't find where it is coming from...?
    Thanks...

  • How to avoid lines left behind after effects have been flattened in CS6?

We work in a packaging environment using MAC OS 10.6.8 using Illustrator CS6.
In order to ouput Illustrator files correctly through a RIP, we expand all effects (shadow, glows, etc) before converting them to a Hi Resolution PDF to impose for output.
What we have started to see is lines starting to show up on the PDFs (and the Printing Plates too) where the bounding box of the effect used to be. We have seen lines show up in earler versions of Illustrator but not to the number or thickness they seem to be in CS6.
Is there any way to avoid these lines from showing up (and being printed)?  What methods do other people use to get around this issue?
Any suggestions would be most helpful.
    Many Thanks
    Andrew

So we have been working through the above issue....
    Problem:
    1) This problem started because Illustrator Effects wont print through our RIP unless they are flattened first.
    2) The issue is further complicated by the fact that most of the effects involve spot colours (either directly or under the effect)
    3) The RIP will only read PDFs saved in PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4). Yes, we have checked with the supplier and it IS up to date!
    4) When sending PDFs through our RIP from Illustrator CS6 we get white bounding boxes around spot color effects and keylines around CMYK objects.
    5) These line and boxes are visible on the PDF and print on the plate.
    Solution:
    1) Work the file in the usual manner then split the file into 2 (or more) layers. The top layer for elements/objects/type that have NO effect on it that you wish to remain in vector format (or that can be editable at a later date). The bottom layer for ALL other items with effects applied and any items that will be modified by above effects (items below shadows or glows etc).
    2) Save a PDF copy of the Bottom layer as PDF version 1.7 to maximise compatibility. Keep the other settings as you would normally use for Hi Res or custom output.
    3) Split you PDF in the CMYK and seperate Spot colours. (We used Prinect PDF Toolbox to remove unwanted colours).
    4) You will also need to convert all spot collours to a sigle process colour (ie we use Black) this can also be done through Prinect PDF Toolbox. If this is not done, the colour will split into CMYK at the next stage.
    5) Open all of you now modified PDF files in Photoshop (the CMYK with the Spot colours removed and the Spots with all the CMYK removed)
    6) Drag your spot files into the CMYK version (from the Layers Pallete). You will then need to duplicate the Black Channels and save them as Spot Channels (let me know if you need help to do this) then remove the original black layers.
    7) Save this new file as a Photoshop PSD file.
    8) Place this new PSD in the you Illustrator file in the same position as the layer that you originally saved as a PDF. You can now hide the original export layer.
    9) Output the File as a PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4) in your usual Hi Res method. (We do this through InDesign so that we can include our custom Slug information).
    10) The RIP will now not have to process each of the Effects, just 1 single Photoshop PSD in the background of each file.
I know this is more of a work-around than a solution the the problem... but it's the only thing we know of that guarentees a succsessful result every time.
If anybody reading this knows of any other solutions, please let us know.
    Many thanks
    Andrew

  • Gaussian blur-- posterization

    Hi all-
In a current project, I'm using some blurring effects through time (either a shot starts off blurry and comes into focus, or the reverse direction). All of the raw footage starts out completely in focus.
I have been using the "Gaussian Blur" effect in FCP, but I'm finding that as the blur amount changes through time, the image gets very posterized (i.e. distinct color bands, rather than gradual color shift), especially if there is motion in the shot that I'm blurring.
Does anyone recommend a way to eliminate the posterization artifacts, or a different effect or plug-in that will accomplish my image blurs with a more natural-lens look and quality?
    Thanx gang.
    -Chris

    Yup, that's it, Jerry.
But in another FCP group, a listserve, I belong to, in a recent thread about 10-bit video in Final Cut, some well respected professionals did some testing. Oliver Peters posted this reply:
OK, I've had a chance to get back to this and ran another test this morning. SD input from DBeta to Kona2 using bars from DBeta tape. Captured bars both as 8-bit and 10-bit
    media. Created 5 timelines:
    1. 8-bit with 8-bit processing
    2. 8-bit with HPYUV processing
    3. 10-bit with 10-bit processing
    4. 10-bit with HPYUV processing
    5. 10-bit with 8-bit processing
Applied 3-way CC to the clips and compared no effect, effect rendered and effect previewed (not rendered). When you leave the CC settings at default, i.e. no adjustments, all timelines and all combinations of rendered, unrendered and no effect match each other on the scopes. (Note, that there was a very slight change on the 8-bit processing in the
10-bit timeline.) However, when you actually change the settings, i.e. apply CC changes, then ALL 10-bit and HPYUV combinations show a shift between rendered and preview of
the effect. The ONLY timeline where there was no change was #1, 8-bit with 8-bit processing. Also the 8-bit within the 10-bit timeline had extremely little change, but of course you take a hit stepping down to 8-bit processing. The changes that I saw were minor luma shifts (mainly in the midrange) and subtle vector shifts.

  • Gaussian Blur photoshop effect parameters

    Hello,
Im working on svg format exporter, and what I need to do is to export some of AI effects as SVG filters.
I encountered a problem with Effect -> (PhotoshopEffects) Blur -> Gaussian Blur effect.
When getting the effect parameters there is some binary entry in the dictionary and it is not documented naywhere in the docs what type of data it that.
When serializing a document with GaussianBlur effect info fxg foramt, here is what you can find in the xml :
    <ai:LiveEffect index="0" major="1" minor="0" name="PSAdapter_plugin_GblR">
        <ai:Dict data="B go 1 I PrevDres 300 I dataSize 24 ">
            <ai:Entry name="data" value="AAAAAVJkcyAAAAAAZG91Yj/xmZmgAAAA" valueType="N"/>
        </ai:Dict>
    </ai:LiveEffect>
Attribute value holds the binary data describing the GaussianBlur effect with radius set to 1,1 value.
Can anybody tell how to decode the binary data so that I could dig out the radius value from it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rafał

Ok, I found the problem so will leave the solution, maybe somebody will also need this.
So the value attribute value="AAAAAVJkcyAAAAAAZG91Yj/xmZmgAAAA" is base64 encoded.
When decoded it presents sth like this, where dots "." are zeros (actually below presented data represents gaussian blur effect data for radius == 2, not 1,1 like in previous post):
    ....Rds ....doub@.......
this is same data in hex
    00 00 00 01 52 64 73 20 00 00 00 00 64 6f 75 62 40 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
and last 8 bytes represents a double number in big endian:
    @....... == 40 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
Im working on windows, so after switching it to little endian we get
    .......@  or 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 40
which is our radius in double format.
To be more precise the initial number in the binary data is typeIEEE64BitFloatingPoint, and can be googled in some Python/Apple's header files, here for instance http://svn.python.org/projects/python/trunk/Lib/plat-mac/Carbon/AppleEvents.py.
    Cheers

  • I can not for the life of my apply any color correction or any other effect to a png logo I dragged into my Premiere Pro project.

Someone please help. I can't figure out how to apply a color correction or really any effect for that matter to a png logo. I could have sworn I've done it before but maybe you just can't.

I can definitely apply a Video Effect to a still image that is a PNG file in Premiere Pro CC (2014.2)
Here is what I tried (that worked):
Set the playhead at the start of your still image (shift+drag playhead) in the timeline, you can now see it in the Program monitor.
With the Selection Tool, double-click the still image clip in your timeline.
    Display Effect Controls (Window menu).
In the Effects panel, expand Video Effects > Adjust and drag the Levels effect into the Effect Controls. Make sure you don't have the 'Master' image selected (if it is you'll be making changes wherever the still is used in a sequence),
Now adjust the settings for the fx in the Effect Controls panel, and you should be able to see a change.
Hope this works for you. If not, can you let us know what version of Premiere you are using and what steps you are trying to use?

  • Gaussian Blur is different when Scaling

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem when I scaled one object which has Gaussian Blur effect. Before it is scaled it looks smooth and nice (1st image), however when it is scaled to larger size, the Gaussian Blur does not look the same (2nd image). Please refer to my screen shots for better understanding. Any help and tip is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    David,
Just managing to collect my wits (easier here an hour after midnight).
The Gaussian Blur is fundamentally a Photoshop effect and therefore fails to answer to the Scale Strokes & Effects.
You will need to increase the value as suggested, or you may turn the object into a Symbol before scaling, and then it should behave as you wish.

  • Cs4 urgent - gaussian blur have different visualization on same object

Continuing the before post. As i have write before i have copied and pasted an object from one document to another but the gaussian blur effect are visualized in different way, as the image. Why this?

Thank you, i have find where to set this parameter.
I have another question. I'm designing a graphic library for display on touchscreen, is better if i use resolution 72ppi or 300ppi for the raster effects resolution?

  • Gaussian blur causes clip to displace

All of a sudden aplying a Gaussian blur effect displaces certain clips - it just moves the clip to top left by about 1/4... Looks like it affects certain clips, that are not the same size as the projcet, but I'm not sure.
The thing is that it worked before well, so I don't know what happened...
    I'm on Mac OS 10.5.8, Premiere CS4

    Hi Ann

  • Photosmart 8750 - how to avoid white edges on print? And how to match colors from monitor to print?

Hi all! I´m new here so I hope I ask this in the right forum. Please advice me if this should be in another sub-forum..
First: The white edges around my photos when printed:
I can´t figure out how to avoid the white edges when I print my photos.
If I print in A3 size (or any other size) there´s always the white edges around my photos on the print, and it´s really annoying.
I make the size in Photoshop (CS4 extended) so that the photo matches the size of the printing paper, but still it gets adjusted when printing so I get the white edges.
I either print directly from PS or from Windows Photoviewer. (I have Windows 7).
In PS in the printing dialog box it says Scale to fit media, when I tick this and also have the Show Paper White ticked, it appears that the photo goes exactly as the size is set, but then I can see a thin white edge on top of it, illustrating that the photo will be printed with a white edge on top. If I untick the Scale to fit media, the photo appears to be cut a great deal before printed, so this will destroy my image.
I usually print from Windows Photoviewer as the colours in PS turns out more different than when saved and printed from Windows. (My next question).  In Windows Photoviewer I only have the option Fit to frame, but in the preview it doesn´t look like any of those two options will give a borderless print.
In the printers dialoge box for the Paper/Quality I only use the option for A3 HP glossy photopaper, but I see there are other options such as Photo without edges A3, but then the size says 423x303mm which is slightly bigger than the size of the photo.
Also there´s a box to tick under it, Print without edges and under it Automatic fit without edges.
Is it something here I should tick or untick?
What options should I use to get it to print and fill the whole paper?
Second: How to get the same colours on my print as it shows on my monitor?
I have tried figuring out this, but I gave up. Though I know there´s something about the Profile´s, just not how to set them..
As already said, the colours looks quite different when printed directly from PS than saved as .jpg and printed from Windows Photoviewer. In colours the print is closer to the actual colours when printed from Windows than from PS, but BW photos is quite far from as seen on the monitor when printed, from both of them.
Instead of this nice warm "brownish" hue seen on my monitor, it´s printed with a greenish hue. Really annoying as I spend a lot of time working on my photos to get them as I like.
In the printer´s dialog box (in Windows) I have disabled the ICM colour management.
In PS dialog box I´m sure there´s something to do different under the Color Management, but I don´t know what.
Also there´s probably something different in my monitor´s profile that differs from the printer and PS?
Anyone who can help with either one or both of my problems??
That would be highly appreciated so thanks so much in advance!

  • How do I change beige tabs with white text to beige tabs with black (or some other dark color) text?

Classic Restore changed by FF 29 tabs to beige with black text on the active tab and to beige with white text on the other open tabs. The white text is not visible. How do I change the white text to a darker color?
If this cannot be done, is there a way to reinstall FF 29 with just the security updates (and not all the other gimmicks) so that I can retain my FF 28 settings? Thank you.

    # Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    # Next to Classic Theme Restorer, click the Options button.
    # Click the Custom Colors tab, then the Tab (active/hover/default) tab below that.
    # Below Tab (active), check "Text", then click the color swatch and pick black.
    # Click the Tab (unread) / New Tab tab.
    # Below Tab (unread), check "Text", then click the color swatch and pick black.
