How to avoid mail from erasing old mails

im getting kind of frustrated w/mail erasing old emails i think they last about 3 - 4 weeks im not sure ... but is there a way to just keep everything and only erase them whenever i want to erase them?... thanx

Who is the provider of your email account, and is it IMAP or POP? If you are using an AOL IMAP account, for example, their policy is to remove messages from your Inbox folder after 27 days. More info, please, as Mail does not have any setting within it to remove messages from any Inbox.

Restore the new Ipod from the backup of the old one.  When you first connect the new iPod to the syncing computer, iTunes should tell you that it found a backup and would you like to restore the iPod from that backup or as a new iPod.

....... is there a way for me to get my old music library (which was controlled by my dad's apple ID) onto my new mac, but from that point on, start using my own apple ID for purchases?........
Yes, once the content is in iTunes on your computer, just click it to play and authorise your computer to play it by entering your Dad's ID and password.
Log into your own account and start purchasing your own content which will then be added to the existing content.

  • How do I migrate from my old mac that lost its display to my new mac?

How do I migrate from my old iMac that lost its display to my new iMac?

That can depend on what model iMac is the old one. With some models it's relatively easy to remove the hard drive. once out, you can use a device like this:
Newer Technology Universal Drive Adapter USB 3.0 - connects any 2.5", 3.5" or 5.25" drive
to connect the old drive to the new Mac. It will show up exactly as if you had an external hard drive in an enclosure. Them you can access the drive.
Can you give us an idea of what iMac variant the old one represents? The are four broad families: G3; G5: G5, and Intel. You can usually find the processor information the same tag that has the serial number.
I believe that, if you enter its serial number in tis Apple web page:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
it will give you a description of the computer with the pertinent information.

  • How to avoid outage from db level

    Hi All,
I'm having task as, I need to give *15 diffrent ways/ideas/scripts to avoid outage from Oracle DB level in general* within short period(3 weeks). Where we need to focus and what are the stuff, need to do to complete this.
I guess, Outage means DB down, bcoz of this, user's can't to the db through appication. is it correct?
1.By genetal, how the people are avoiding outage there environment?
2.when we will get outage, I mean in which situation we will get ?
    3. I guess,we can do in parameter level. But, I dont know, what are the parameter we can use here?
Please guide me and advice me, to complete this task.
    Thanks in advance.

2.when we will get outage, I mean in which situation we will get ?Usually when you run out of some resource you can get partial or full outage.
I.e. when there are too many connections - new connection will be rejected and will see it as outage. Old ones will work. It is a partial outage.
Or when disk space is totally consumed - selects may work, updates wont.
Or there is no virtual memory left some sessions may fail.
Full outages are rear things - usually caused by H/W failures or environmental disasters.
1.By genetal, how the people are avoiding outage there environment?Different ways.
    - Planning for resources according to consumption analysis and predictions.
    - By monitoring of resources and environment and taking proactive measures.
    - By establishing High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.
    - And finally by establishing Business Continuity plan where is is no IT at all (using pencils and papers, abacus, fingers, and brain to run business as 120 years ago).
    3. I guess,we can do in parameter level. But, I dont know, what are the parameter we can use here?Oh it easy - put the parameter WORK_ALWAYS=ON into your config file and its done!
Seriously, there are many parameters that you can tweak depending on your planned resource usage.
But not everything can be done by just parameters tweaking.
    See reply on #1.

  • HT4522 How do I download from an old time capsule to a new one or to my computer?

I have a new 2T time capsule but have somehow lost all the old material I originally copied from my old time capsule. How can I go into the old capsule and re-copy all those files onto the new capsule?

Check the disk capacity left on the new 2TB, as the files are likely there.
Are the files TM backups? You handle those somewhat differently to regular files.
Check Q18 here for moving TM backups.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
Otherwise it is standard copying of files via finder.
I strongly recommend using ethernet.. turn off wireless. This is going to be a bit slow because the copy has to take place via the computer.. ie all packets are copied.. old TC--Computer.. Computer--new TC. As such it can take ages if you use wireless.
Bridge the old TC and plug it into the new one. Then you can mount the TC disk .. open a second finder window makes it easier to keep things open .. create a new directory in the new TC.. for old files .. do not just dump them under the root directory. And then copy away.

  • How to get songs from my old ipod to my new hard drive then to my new ipod?

Recently my computer crash and in order to fix it I had to get a new hard drive which means all my songs' files is gone! I had over 2,000! So I was wondering if there is a way in which I can take all the songs from my ipod and transfer it back to my computer now that it is fixed?? Also, my situation is a bit more complex because I am planning to get a newer ipod.
My old one is a ipod photo (I believe it is the 4th generation) and I am getting the 5th generation ipod video. Is there a way where I can transfer my songs from my old ipod back to my computer or itunes first then plug in my new one so it can update my old songs from my old ipod and my new songs' files in my computer all into my new ipod.
I reinstall itunes because I still use the program to listen to new songs that I have on my computer so I don't know if this information is useful or make things more confusing. I don't know if I should delete this version itune and reinstall the disk that comes with the ipod video? Or is it the same itunes version?
I really need help here I'm so confused on what to do and I am afraid of plugging my ipod in because it would update to my new song on my computer and delete all my old 2,000 songs from my ipod that I do not have backup files too because my old hard drive crash!
Any suggestions, advises, or comments are appreciate!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Installing FF to a new hard disk, how to transfer passwords from the old installation?

I have FF installed to Win2k on a hard disk. I have installed Win7 on a new hard disk and I want to move passwords from the old installation to the new one.
It would be great if I could move all the links I get when I click the http://........ field also.

You can retrieve these from your old Profile. See [[Profiles]] which explains what they contain, and [[Managing Profiles]] for an explanation of how to move your data to the new profile.

    iTunes prefs > Advanced.
Make sure the iTunes media folder location is set to where you want.
Tick Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library.
iTunes menu File > Library > Organize library > Consolidate.
This will copy any files in iTunes, which are outside of the iTunes media folder set above, to this folder.
