How to avoid video file transcoding

Hello,
This is something I have been struggling with for quite a while.  Perhaps you could help me with it.
I am using Photodex Producer to create slide shows from pictures and videos I take.  Then I get Producer to generate an HD mpeg2 video file (other formats are also available) with mpeg audio format.  Finally I feed such files into Encore 6 to create BD disks.  Producer allows for a few parameters to be set but I could not find a way to generate the mpeg2 video files so that I could avoid transcoding in Encore.  I looked at the Encore Help | Importing assets page and the recipe there seems to be simple but it does not work for me...  Perhaps it is too simple?  It does not seem to be enough to use mpeg2 video with mpeg audio and 23.976 fps.  Encore always insists on transcoding these files.
Here is an example of one such file (courtesy of mediainfo):

Could you please help me with this?  What is it in this file that forces the need of transcoding in Encore.
Thank you,
Peter

Stan and Jeff, thank you for your comments and help.
I finally found a way to produce a lossless .avi file from Producer.  In ver. 6 of Producer it is under "Publish->For Computers->Custom Video File".  In the window that pops up you select Format Type: Custom and Format Settings: Format: AVI-Uncompressed.  They allow you to set the resolution, frame rate and a few other things.  The resulting .avi files were about 10GB for each minute of video (1080p, 23.976 fps).
In this particular project I had 4 files each about 100GB in size.  A bit awkward to deal with, size-wise, but still manageable.  I imported these files into Encore (did not go through Premiere) and BD transcoded them using all the high quality options I could find.  The resulting BD is ok.  I think it is noticeably better than what I was getting when I generated mpeg2 files from Producer and then had them transcoded in Encore.  The main difference is less distortion in fast changing scenes.  I just noticed that in Producer there is a "high-quality" option that I did not see (I used "normal quality").  I'll try it next time (likely will give even bigger .avi files).
I like this new approach as it improves the quality of the final product.  I will likely use it as my new workflow.  Again, thank you for your help.  Please comment if you see anything that could be improved in this process.
I will mark this question as answered.  Well, the question was not really answered but the proposed workaround appears to work well.

How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

I am going to have to write a technote about this, because it comes up a lot.
Flash Player itself is designed to play SWF content as a browser plugin or as an ActiveX control (when it's IE Windows).
There is a standalone Flash Player, but that's something Adobe  provides directly as a feature of Flash CS4 Professional. It gets installed with Flash. We have made some standalone players available on http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, but not all (and I don't know why.  Looking into it)
There are numerous 3rd party standalone SWF players out there though.  Some designed to just play video, others that play full SWF. I suggest a google search of 'play SWF standalone' and read the results.
On the Mac, consumers who want to play SWF content off their desktop can use the Adobe Media Player. You can import a local SWF (and FLV and other video) and play it in AMP.  Get it here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaplayer/
That's Mac only, doesn't work on Windows.

  • How to avoid db file parallel read for nestloop?

After upgraded to 11gr2, one job took more than twice as long as before on 10g and 11gr1 with compatibility being 10.2.0.
Same hardware. (See AWR summary below). My analysis points to that Nestloop is doing index range scan for the inner table's index segment,
and then use db file parallel read to read data from the table segment, and for reasons that I don't know, the parallel read is very slow.
AVG wait is more than 300ms. How can I fluence optimier to choose db file sequential read to fetch data block from inner table by tweaking

Its not possible to say anything just by looking at the events. You must understand that statspacks and AWR actualy aggergate the data and than show the results. There may be a very well possibility that some other areas also need to be looked at rather than just focussin on one event.
You have not mentioned any kind of other info about the wait event like their timings and all that.PLease provide that too.
And if I understood your question corretly, you said,
How to avoid these wait events?
    What may be the cause?
I am afraid that its not possible to discuss each of these wait event here in complete details and also not about what to do when you see them. Please read teh Performance Tuning book which narrates these wait events and corresponding actions.

  • How to avoid output file and error lines when condition does not match

    Hi Experts
A customer want to send purchase order files to several vendors and each vendor has their own requirement to content and file format. I have prepared scenarios for each vendor and a template is (conditionally) called when CardCode matches. It works fine, - PO file is generated when CardCode matches, but error lines are written to SAP B1 Control Center each time CardCode does not match the one defined in a scenario (100 or more times per day). Problem is that these error lines does not get automatic deleted. Conditional processing are made in this way:
Result Message in SAP B1 Control Center when CardCode does not match:
I tried to avoid an error line in SAP B1 Control Center when CardCode does not match in this way:
Then no error lines are written to SAP B1 Control Center, but an output file is generated each time (order file when CardCode matches and an empty file when CardCode does not match).
Any suggestions on how to avoid both errors types (error lines in SAP B1 Control Center and empty output files)?
Or - can lines in SAP B1 Control Center be automatic deleted?

    Hi Steen,
using <b1im_skip> should be the right approach, if you're working with B1 OUTBOUND.
Following extract form the B1i help describes the usage to skip the outbound processing:
    1.1 Skipping Outbound Processing
If you do not want to hand over the message to the receiver system, the scenario step can create a special tag that indicates to generic processing in the integration framework to skip the message processing.
Add the following to the final transformation atom (atom0):
    <b1im_skip xmlns= ”” info=”my info” msglog=”true” msgout="yes">
If the integration framework skips the message, it puts the message log information to the Filtered section, if the message log is switched on. The result message contains the Message skipped by vBIU logic information.

To display an individual message, define it using the info attribute.
    msglog
If you want to avoid an entry in the message log, introduce the msglog attribute and set it to false.
    msgout
To display the skip information in the Success section of the message log, use the msgout attribute and set it to yes.
In case you don't want any MsgLogEntry in case of a skipped message, please enter the following in final atom0:

  • How to detect video files in Aperture Applescript?

    Hi,
I'm writing Applescript for exporting images based on certain criteria. I do not want to include my video files in the export. How can I determine in the Applescript that a "image version" is actually a video file? Or even better, is it possible to get a list of "image version" items from an album excluding video files?
My starting point is to get "every image version" as below, and this returns also video files (which I do not want):
    tell myAlbum
set myAllImages to every image version as list
    end tell
Aperture Applescript reference doc does not contain anything with words "video" or "movie", so I'm quite stuck here...

    Hi,
the aperture suit in apple script does not know about media kinds, but once you have selected the image files like you planned, you could use the Finder suit to parse the file name and return the file extension. If the extension is "mpg" or "mov" or any other movie type then exclude it from your list.
set myfile to -- whatever you select in Aperture
    tell application "Finder"
set theext to the name extension of myfile
              return theext
    end tell

  • How to convert video files on an SD card to play in iMovie

I am completely stumped! New to Macs, so assume a really basic level of knowledge!
A videographer gave me an SD card that breaks down into a folder called DCIM and a folder called Private, which breaks into JVC>BPAV>CLPR, TAKR, and a a few random files. Inside of CLPR there are numbered files, and inside each of those are MP4 video files. These MP4s can't open in anything but VLC. Quicktime doesn't recognize them. When I open then in iMovie, I get green screen with no audio.
Does anyone know how I open this/convert this so I can edit it in iMovie?

  • How to convert video files so they render in FCP?

I'm having trouble converting video files and using them in FCP. My problem is I have to keep rendering a clip every time I modify it in FCP. I know how to fix this issue with audio by exporting a file to the correct sample rate, but with video I can't find the correct option. I've tried converting my video to MPEG-4 and Quicktime movie but nothing works.

Convert it to a nle friendly format like DV, Pro Res, etc. Mpeg4 is not nle friendly.
    Import the video.
Make sure the sequence settings are the same as the video clip--i.e. if you converted the video to DV NTSC 29.97, the sequence setting should match that.
If your sequence settings match your video, you won't have to render unless you add an effect or transition, etc.
