How to back up contacts

So I am having trouble with syncing things like contacts to my phone. Yesterday I happened to drop the iphone in water and today I got a new one at the Apple Store. So I dont have the previous iphone with me because they took it. I was wondering if there was any way possible to put the contacts in my iphone from this so called "back up"? What if I dont believe I backed up my previous phone, what can I do besides putting it in manually? I happen to have Sprint, is if possible for me to some how get the contacts from them if I cannot get it from itunes? PLEASE HELP! I really do not understand how this works and I would gladly appreciate the help

Contacts are not fully included in your iPhone backup. If you have ever synced other phone with iTunes it created a backup as part of the sync process. You can try restoring your new phone from this backup and if may bring some (or all) of your contacts back. Restoring from backup will revert all settings and data on your new phone to those contained in the backup of your old phone, not just contacts. If you never synced your old phone with iTunes there's nothing you can unless you can do to get them back.
Open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences, then click on Devices, then look at the Device Backups list. If you don't see any backup listed here you don't have one. If you do, check "Prevent...from syncing automatically" and then do the following:
Connect your phone to your computer
When it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar, right-click on its name and select Restore from Backup
Select your old phone backup to restore from and let the restore process complete
When done you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and uncheck "Prevent...from automatically syncing"
If you're lucky you may have some/most/all of your contacts back.

You are not lost here download the latest version of Nokia pc suite and connect the device and back it up, oh yes windows7 dont have outlook directly but still u can have the backup stored on to your pc you can also backup ur contacts to memory card and sim card( if u have a32 or 64k sim)

My phone has been acting sluggish lately and I want to do a factory restore. I know how to back up my pictures, but how do I back up my contacts?

Each time you sync, a backup is created. It is also replaced during each subsequent sync. It is not editable, and can only be recovered to an iPhone.
When you sync your data to another application, such as Windows Address Book, Outlook, or Yahoo Address Book this puts your data in another location, it can be edited, and won't get replaced each time you sync the iPhone.

I got it now. Since i couldn't find them in Outlook, i tried to sync it with Windows Address Book & all were there 100%! Thank u very much Lawrence for helping lotsa peeps like me! ^__^
P.S I now made a back-up copy to my external hard drive too just to be safe. Lol! Thanks again!

Curve 8950 upgrading to Q5 - help please re how to back up contacts

Hi - im trying to upgrade from an old and beloved 8950 to Q5. The old BB desktop manager does not recognise the Q5 link SW and vice versa.
Any ideas how this can be overcome to transfer contacts.
The sim in the old phone is deactivated but the contacts can be seen on the old BB.
The sims are different sizes so the old sim doesnt fit the Q5 to check if stored as phone contacts and copy.
Any help appreciated.

I recommend you do a backup with the Desktop Manager from your old Blackberry and also a backup with the Blackberry Protect.

How to back up contacts? Can i store contacts in my itunes account?

I am on the verge of totally losing confidence in the reliability and security of data stored in my phone. I recently lose all my contacts and messages including the contents of the apps/utilities that I've been using. My iphone restarted on its own and the abovementioned data were all lost without a warning. I came to this site hoping to find answers and help and as i was browsing i found out that there are also other iphone users whose contacts were lost.
Can we save and sync our contacts using itunes? Please help me here. There's got to be a way of having a reliable back up for important data and numbers. otherwise we shouldn't save this stuff in our phones at all for fear that the phone will just crash and we will be left at a loss. Thanks much.

Do not sync to an empty contact or calendar application on your computer. Make sure these applications have at least one entry each. This will insure you get a merge or replace prompt when you hit the sync button. Select merge.

Everytime I try to back up contacts from my iphone or ipad it asks me if I want to merge with 142 other contacts and modify several others that are not actually in my current contact list. I removed all the contacts from the windows file and manually typed all the contacts from my yahoo mail so they match. But now I still can't get the 2 updated so they match and everytime I sync the phone or ipad it still wants to add a ton of others that are not needed. I wouldn't care so much if I didn't want to lose my contacts...again but I would like it to modify new contacts and keep a back up of what is actually on my phone and yahoo mail.
Anyone know how to do this?

I use a PC for itunes - I don't have a Mac. But the application I think is Windows and the contacts are maintained in that file when backed up on the hard-drive. But I removed all of those and placed them in another folder someplace else - as back up (so I don't lose them again) so that folder is empty but it still wants to place all contacts available in on all of our devices. I used the cloud for my contacts and now it has groups split out will all and then just mine. I can't get away from the merged files. I just want my own set and his set. I update and change my contacts but if I ever need to retore it I won't be able to because I can never back it up on the computer, it will revise and modify then combine all of our contacts.
I had to re-do our contact lists manually about 6 times now, in all devices too. I just edit and replace/delete so we each have our own but I wish it could update changes made in my phone only. If I don't remember to edit my Gmail or Yahoo contacts those will never be updated with the phone either.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you so much!

How do I load my hubby's backed up contacts from itune to my phone with his new sim - itunes is registering my serial number and wants to load my contacts

We are fairly new iPhone users and my hubby lost (misplace he says) his iPhone but we had an another phone (not iPhone) and want to load his contacts onto a new SIM that he can use on that phone. We have changed his phone number to the new sim. I thought if I put his SIM in my iphone I could go in & add his backed up contacts onto his Sim but can't see how I can direct iTunes to do this as it must be looking at the phone serial number instead of the phone number which I was hoping it would do. I wants to back up & sync my contacts/info to his new SIM? Is anyone able to tell me how I can get his contacts onto his SIM without a new iPhone?

No contact information is stored in iTunes. Contact information is synced through iTunes to a supported contact application on your computer: Outlook, Windows Address Book, OS X Address Book. Unless you own a sim card reader/writer, you're gonna have to manually enter these contacts directly on the phone.

How can I back up Contacts synced from an Exchange server into iCloud?

Hi everybody. I would like to back up into iCloud my Contact (and Calendars too) which I have previously synced to the device ( that is an iPad air running iOS 8.2.1) from an Exchange server. The green flags in Settings / ICloud are duly switched on but no contact will appear under Groups/all iCloud. Is this feature feasible at all or is there something missing in the procedure I follow ? Prior to posting my query I had already checked out the article you're referring me to (whose URL is http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3605). It may well be that I'm not being crystal clear owing to my far from perfect English but the whole point is precisely that I'm not able to import contacts which ALREADY appear on my iPad - being the outcome of syncing my remote MS Exchange account with the device - into iCloud. The procedure described in the quoted article simply doesn't work (for that matter, no such Setting sign pops up under ICloud contacts). In fact, it appears that the only contacts which I'm able to keep under iCloud are those which I directly create from scratch within iCloud Group itself. Since I'm likely to have my MS outlook account ( which is mirrored into a MS Exchange one for remote usage) forcibly deleted in one month time or so, I started worrying about how to keep my contacts alive/ intact after that deletion. Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then see if you can redownload your past music purchases (those that are still in the store) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you are not in a country where music can currently be re-downloaded, then have you not got it on your computer and/or on a backup ? If not then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
