No - the Word files do not need to be saved in any other format if you have Pages on your iPad. There are other apps that provide better compatibility than Pages but it will work for you. You have to have DropBox on your PC and the free DropBox app on the iPad to use DropBox to transfer files.
To send the file using DropBox - make sure DropBox is running on your computer. Then place the file in one of the folders that you have set in your DropBox folder on your PC. Launch DropBox on your iPad and find the folder that you placed the file into and tap on that folder. Find the document and tap on it. It will open in the window on the right. Tap the arrow icon in the upper right corner and select Open in Pages.
If you have pdf files in iBooks that you want to put into Pages you have to email them to yourself and use the Open In feature when you open the email. You cannot send a file from iBooks other than to email it - at least I am not aware of any other way.

as far as I can tell you have to convert to an ipad compatible format first. If you google "how to convert wrf" you will find options for conversion. I dont know if your on mac or windows, so the search is going to be your best bet for now.

My backed up files on ipad

Hi,when u sync an ipad it creates a back up file.I synched my ipad last night and it created a back up mostly the files were Safari history so how can i view that on my computer? It was only safari history because i have not yet downloaded any apps and that on the back up there were only 43 files. Would those 43 files be web history? If you view a website and only cleared it on the browser not on the settings,when you synch the device would those website history still be backed up? What about photos can you still get them back when it is deleted,from you phone after restoring without backed up? I need all of my questions answered thank you.

You can use yor back up to restore to a replacement device.
Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and install any updates available.
Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. You can't really.
You need to use DHTML in the swf-wrapper HTML file, usually a
division wrapped iFrame, and load the PDF into the iFrame as an
overlay to the Flash.

How do I save files from iPad to Dropbox without connecting to computer?

I understand how to move files from iPad to a computer using email or ITunes. I would like to be able to save a word processing file directly from my iPad wirelessly to my Dropbox folder. I assume that you have Pages and the DropBox app on the iPad ... so do this and it will work.
From Pages - email the file to yourself. Tap the Wrench icon and select Share and Print - and then select Email Document. Select the file type from the pop up window - then email the document.
Go to the mail app - open the email - tap and hold down on the document icon - select Open in - Open in DropBox.

How to delete CR2 files from iPad

I recently used the camera connection kit to download photos (JPEG and Raw) from my Canon G12 to my iPad. Since I have gotten home, I have been transferring the photos to iPhoto on my MacBook Pro. When I try to delete the photos from my iPad, it will delete the JPEG but not the CR2 Raw file. Since the Photos app on the iPad doesn"t "see" the Raw files, I can't delete them directly on the iPad and there doesn't seem to be any way to do it from iPhoto when my iPad is connected to my MacBook Pro. Help with corrupted HD: how to back up files

ok so i had a problem yesterday: when i hit the power button, my macbook would stay at the white screen with the spining load indicator and the apple logo. same would happen when i started up while holding the option key. anyways i started it up with the original OS disk. in disk utilities i tried to repair the hard drive, unsucessful and is says this:

ERROR: DISK UTILITY can't repair this disk...disk, and restore your backed-up files
how do i back-up my files?

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
When there is an issue like that, often Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro can fix it. Disk Warrior is generally the preferred program. http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/index.html
You can then back up the files once you get the drive back in shape.
