How to Back-Up Mac through Recovery Mode?

I'm not to good with computer terms or stuff like that, so please bear with me. Every time I start up my MacBook Pro, a loading bar comes up and then when it completes, it restarts, with the same thing, a endless cycle of loading bars. So I looked at quite a few threads but couldn't find a specific answer to my problem. I want to do a reinstall of new copy of Lion but back-up my data first (there is only 50 GB). I can start into Internet recovery mode. I did the whole "Verify Disk" in the Disk Utility and it said that "The disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk". In which I click repair disk. But then it says "Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files".  All I have is a 500 GB Seagate External hard drive for Mac, no additional Mac or time machine to back up to. So is someone able to give me step by step on how to back-up my data in my specific situation? I tired to create a New Image of "Macintosh HD" but it says "unable to create "Macintosh HD.dmg". (Error -61)". Also, the Macintosh HD is dimmed (grayish) in the left, but I can still click on it. I don't know what that means. Is there also any way to move files in recovery mode through terminal, from the HD to my external hard drive. As a alternative back up?
Please, any help would be awesome.

In order to follow the guides below, you will need access to another Mac and a firewire cable.  Your hard drive is failing. If you make an Genuis Bar appointment at a local Apple Store, they will be able to perform this. If you choose the latter, make sure to bring an external hard drive to which your data can subsequently be transferred to once it has been recovered from the failing drive.

Delete the .ipsw file on the computer.
Put the device in DFU mode.
Restore as new, once the restore completes, then try restoring from backup.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

How can I get out of recovery mode without restoring my iPod?

    Try using Yamipod.
    http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/downloads/
Make sure iTunes is closed before you use yamipod.
Another issue I have heard about if are in Windows is a Parental Controls conflict with iTunes and your iPod trying to access the iTunes Server for the Restore Software Update.
Make sure there are no firewalls blocking it if you are on a Mac.
Try that, if not, post again.

  • How to recover iphoto library from recovery mode

My macbook pro suddenly went on Utility Disk Mode and can only be accessed through recovery mode. I cannot even view the files. I'm willing to let everything go except for the photos and videos in the iphoto library. I don't know how to access my photos on icloud and when I did, it was just my iphone's photos that are there. is there any way I can view my photos in my locked macintosh hd in other devices or computer?

Thanks for the response BDAqua, I did use Migration Assistant to transfer her data from the SuperDuper backup.  Are you suggesting that I use Migration Assistant to transfer data from the Time Machine backup?  Will that result in duplication?  Sorry, but I've no experience at all with Time Machine backups and don't know whether you can 'pick and choose' what to restore from the Time Machine using Migration Assistant.
    Cheers

  • How to fix iphone 5s stack recovery mode..Please help me

How to fix iphone 5s stack recovery mode..i have tried So many ways and aloso tryed with  3rd party software but nothing happens...i trying with iTunes but error 14  message appare..i am from bd that's why in my country doesn't have any apple service center

Error 14 is typically a hardware failure, but can be caused by security software...anti-virus, firewalls, etc. Given what you've posted, I suspect a hardware failure, & if that's the case, you won't be able to restore the phone. You'll need to find a service center to confirm.

    Hi aaaaherman,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPad 2 is in recovery mode and you’re running into an issue restoring it.
Take a look at the article linked below which provides a lot of great information about recovery mode, including details about the restore process and what to do if the device isn’t recognized by iTunes.

  • How to unlock Macintosh HD in recovery mode?

    Good Evening,
Have a little dilemma. Went to update my wife's Mac Book Pro to OS X 10.9.5 today and ended up in recovery mode. Looks like something messed up during the update. There are files that have not been backed up on the drive which makes matters worse. I have attempted to reinstall OS X Mavericks in recovery mode but it won't let me do it because the Macintosh HD is locked. How do I unlock this drive without erasing all the contents in it?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Fix Permissions for a Locked Drive
Open Terminal in the Utilities folder. Paste the following commands at the prompt. Press RETURN after each. The first command will prompt for you to enter your admin password. It will not be echoed to the screen. After entering your password press RETURN again.
    chflags 0 /Volumes/*
    chmod a+rx /Volumes/*
    killall Finder
An alternative is to download BatChmod and use it to fix the permissions.

  • How to recover a datafile in recovery mode

    Hi,
We have a datafile that's 0 bytes in size and is in recovery mode. I see that the datafile is showing as available in dba_data_files but in v$datafile, it's showing the status as recover. This is in Production and the tablespace has been in this mode since last november. We are not able to offline drop the datafile as it is in recovery mode. How can this be corrected without bringing the instance down? Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

I would definitely contact Oracle support for something like this on my production database.
Here are some ideas, but some will require some production downtime to complete.
    1) Export everything that is in the tablespace that contains the datafile. Drop the tablespace including contents, create the tablespace and import everything back in......Not a good solution but it is a solution...of course there are a lot of things to consider like triggers, foreign keys and similar. This should be tested a lot.
    2) Create logical standby with corrected structure and switch to logical standby for production when complete. This will take a lot of work and testing on a test system.
    3) Another possibility would be to move tables within this tablespace to a new tablespace and then drop the old tablespace. (Performance hit but safe and no down time).
    4) If indexes then drop and recreate new indexes (Performance hit but safe and no down time.)
Once you get everything cleared out of the tablespace you should be able to drop it including contents and storage.
Of course I would try any thing I do out on a test environment before doing anything to my production environment.
    Regards

  • Backing up from within recovery mode - trying but its not happening....

So my MacBook pro has gone into this weird mode. I'm not sure but I think it's the safe mode (grey Apple logo, a circling 'loading' thing and a bar). After the bar loads fully, the laptop just shuts down itself. So after a few tries, I googled on my phone and on many forums, they said to press the option key to go into recovery mode. Now, I wanna back up my files into an external hard drive. I have one with more than 400 gb free.
And I followed the instructions for backing up in recovery mode: choose the Mac hard drive and make new image with destination as the external hard drive. The Mac hard drive is just about 160 something gb, more than enough space available on the external hard drive but every time I try making a new image, it says 'Unable to create "Maxi tosh HD.dmg" (file too large)'. I really don't understand what to do. I have my English assignment in there and my deadlines already over, I'm desperate. Please help!
My laptop is a MacBook pro 13" mid 2012 model. I will seriously be really grateful for any help, at all.

sorry I've already asked this question

  • How to get iPad out of recovery mode without restore?

My iPad randomly went into recover mode when I was updating to the latest ios software, 7.1.2. I had already downloaded the update, and this happened while it was installingthe update. I had not backed up for a long time now, and I am getting really scared that I will lose everything. Can anyone PLEASE help me by guiding me to get my iPad up and running again without losing my data. After all, I have done nothing wrong here.

If you are already in recovery mode, then your data is already lost. Your only option is to restore through iTunes then reload your most recent backup which you say was some time ago. This is why you need to backup everything at least once a week. Then when problems arise, you haven't lost a lot of information.
