How to back up without losing anything?

BlackBerry Q5.
I've had my phone turned off for a week and had switched my mobile network off. Yesterday I attempted to turn it all back on but my emails were not coming through. Then I discovered my WhatsApp was not working either. So I attempted to re-download it and it failed. It said to try again and then restart if that doesn't work.
So in the end I restarted my device. However when it reloaded my BBM, texts and previous emails had all been wiped from my phone. I managed to redownload WhatsApp last night but this morning it has disappeared again. I am able to make and receive phone calls but am not able to send or receive texts. Internet Browser is temperamental too.
I had used BlackBerry Protect on my previous devices but this one only uses BlackBerry Link and I have never been able to back it up through there as there were always connection errors such as ‘Cannot communicate with device’ when I use an USB cable for it. Even though I am able to copy media files through it via WiFi…
I presume this is a problem with my phone and not my network provider? Any help would be deeply appreciated.

From your post, I assume that all of your data is already gone, and hence your subject line is a "future" thinking request rather than something you need now.
I agree with your suspicion...something about your device is not working correctly.

If you continue to get USB errors, they please try other USB ports and/or other OEM BB USB cords, and also search the public KB database using the exact error message(s) you are presented with. You will need to ensure that your computer can properly communicate via USB (not WiFi) before you can complete any of the attempts below.

I recently updated my Apple ID with a new email address. Now my iCloud account does not match my Apple ID.
On my iphone, when I press Settings> iCloud> Account> iCoud Account Information: Apple ID
The Apple ID is shown as my old email address, and there is no option to press this and change the sign in information. Therefore, I cannot backup my iphone.
I tried to delete iCloud, but the warning said that everything would be deleted from my iphone if I deleted iCloud. I obviously want what is on my iphone or I wouldn't care about iCloud at all. If the Account name is wrong in Settings>iCloud you'll have to scroll to the botom and tap Delete Account, then sign back in using the correct ID.

I just got a message that I need to back up and reformat my external hard drive. I know very little about this process and would like to know how to do so and if this is possible without losing anything on it.

If you reformat a drive, you will lose whatever information/files are on it. So, the only way to save your info is to copy it to another drive temporarily, reformat your drive (use Disk Utility and format using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the GUID Partition scheme under Options) and then you can copy your information back.

Lost the HDD on my PC and had to reload on a new disk. I have an old backup of iTunes (not very recent) and would like to be able to synch my iPhone without losing contacts, play lists, etc. I can recreate the library from my laptop.
I think I have three options and am wondering which will get my iPhone synched without losing anything:
Recreate library from laptop and synch iPhone (I think this will lose the playlists and contacts.
Backup the iPhone, synch (will probably lose contacts and playlists here) than restore the iPhone from the backup. Will this put the contacts and playlists back?
Restore old iTunes DB from backup, synch phone. Will this copy contacts and play lists from the phone over to the PC so nothing gets lost?

I'm stumped and hope someone can help
My iphone just wont back up on my PC - and I've tried deleting the old backup on the Edit/Preferences tab in iTunes - in fact there is no backup for this device listed there at all.
Without being able to backup, my iphone can't sync, so i can't get music onto it - which was one of the whole blessed points of the bloomin investment.
Can you help?

Use your backup copy of your computer.
Type "move itunes library" into the Google search bar. You will find instructions there.

No. Eventually, Time Machine will delete it from the backup. Time Machine is not a storage concept, it's a backup concept. If you need permanent file storage, then get another drive for that.
