How to backup apps

Background: My 3G iPhone was backed up to my MacBook Pro. My laptop was stolen. I have access to another Mac so I can make backups before I purchase a new MacBook Pro, however…
Problem: I'm able to back up photos, calendar, contacts, podcasts, etc. I haven't been able to back up music because it says it will erase it all. That is not the problem, since all my music was backed up to an external HD. The problem is the apps. iTunes warns me that it will erase all my apps if I try to sync. I have held off on syncing since the theft. Now, I desperately need to sync and backup my iPhone since I will be purchasing an iPhone 4 in the next few days. I don't want to lose all the apps I've purchased. Is there a way to get the apps off the iPhone so I can sync them up to the new iPhone without having to repurchase them all. Salesman says the 3G and 4 use different memory cards, so nothing can be transferred over. Please help.

All iPhones prior to the iPhone 4 use a regular sized SIM card. The iPhone 4 uses a micro-SIM card, which has nothing whatsoever to do with syncing, transferring data, or your problem.
All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, AND 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer. All 3rd party apps on your iPhone would be in your iTunes library if you had Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on the computer that was stolen, which should have been selected. With this selected, after downloading an app with your iPhone, the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. This also allows for downloading an app with iTunes on your computer and installing the app on your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, and for removing an app from your iPhone without deleting the app by deselecting the app under the Apps tab followed by a sync. To reinstall the app again later on your iPhone, reselect the app under the Apps tab followed by a sync.
The sync process for music is a one way transfer process only.
Since the apps on your iPhone are not in your iTunes library, with your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This will transfer all apps and anything else on your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store to the iTunes library on the computer being used that is not currently in that iTunes library. The computer being used must be authorized with your iTunes account with iTunes if not already authorize before doing this.
Alternatively, you can re-download 3rd party apps and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally. Not the same with purchased music, movies, and tv shows, which can be downloaded once.

  • How to backup apps and music from an iphone 3g using itunes 11

Hi, my godson has been using an iPhone 3G as an iPod for music and gaming apps. I want to give him my iPhone 4 (not a 4S) and I have iTunes 11 (registered with my appleID) on my Win8 laptop. I've done a Backup of the 3G and then restored to the 4, the settings and photos "transferred" with the Restore operation, but the apps and music didn't "transfer." How do I backup (all apps and music and photos,etc.--everything on the 3G--to the iPhone 4 using iTunes 11. I think I could have done it easily with older versions of iTunes (with the "Explorer" bar on the left side of iTunes), but I can't seem to figure out how to do it with iTunes 11.
    Thanks!

  • How to backup Apps on a Mac?

I need to send in my Storm 9530 for repair, if not replacement. I can back up data, but the apps I downloaded from various sites are not backed up.
How do I back this up? I can't find any info on how to do this on a Mac...

DMFM does not support third party app backup....so you either need to use bootcamp or pc windows version.

  • Just purchased refurb Macbook - How to backup apps

The Macbook seller did not provide an OS disk, it also has iWork installed. I want to back up the apps (in case of drive failure or catastrophic event). How do I back up the apps (and preserve install settings to avoid repurchasing the software)?

You'll want to have an external hard drive, and either use Time Machine (OS X 10.5 or newer) for backup, or make a clone of your hard drive using SuperDuper! or CCC.  I use, and recommend, hard drives from OWC as many of their cases use Oxford chipsets, which work well with macs.

  • How to backup new learned remote-control data for the IR-remote APP???

    Hello @ all,
does anybody know a way to backup the new learned remote control on XPERIA Z Tablet?
    I found a database under:
    "system/vendor/etc/sony-ir-remote/db"
But after I've saved new learned remote controls the date and the size of these DB's
are the same as before. Therefore the IR-remote control APP dosn't save the new data
    in these files.
Furthermore there isn't a button in the remote-control APP to backup new learned remote controls.
And I can't choose the remote control APP in the backup function APP from the XPERIA Z Tablet
to save the data. Also the backup with the Sony PC Companion Software dosn't save the learned
remote controls. Who develops such a dross mobile software?
Sorry SONY, but you have the most unpalatable support I've lived to see!
The first SONY support center refered me to another support center.
The mobile support center does not answer to my questions per mail.
Then I call the mobile support center. The answers were shallow and standard.
The support engineer want to ask the development and call back.
However, I am still waiting for promised recall.

I am facing the same problem.
I have spend a few days to configure and train my Sony tablet to configure for all my remotes such as aircon and lighting. I did a backup using the Sony companion to my PC. When my tablet was faulty and serviced. But the backup did not recover the IR remote settings and codes which I programmed previously. I also tried your backup restore app but it also does not save the configuration.
It is VERY IMPORTANT for me to backup the settings.
Please provide the folders and path of where the IR REMOTE settings and personal configuration and codes trained were kept so that I could back them up. Are these path protected area that required rooted access?
Hope that Sony could update the app to include backup of new trained codes and settings and in the meantime to provide a procedure of how to backup the setting and trained IR codes with or without rooting the device.

  • IBooks does not open. It only briefly shows an empty  bookcase. I have all my important .pdf reference documents in my library.  I was never able to figure out how to backup ibooks.  I am afraid to reinstall the apps risking loss of data. Any way to save?

IBooks will not open with new ipad and upgraded iOS. It only opens briefly to show an empty  bookcase. I installed the most recent update of iBooks. In apps store it says 'open'.  But the same thing happens...a brief flash.  Strangely, the image and list of my collection actually shows in miniature with all the open apps; so I can close it as I do any other app.
I have all my important .pdf reference documents in my library.    I am afraid to reinstall the apps risking loss of data. I was never able to figure out how to backup ibooks. Any way to save without access to the program?

Now that you have your PDFs on your computer's iTunes library you could try deleting and redownloading the app, and then sync the PDFs back to it - as long as you continue to keep a copy of the PDFs on your computer (and preferably on a backup as well) then if the same thing happens again then you could delete and reinstall again (you shouldn't have any problems with the iBooks app, but then you shouldn't have had a problem this time either).
You could try GoodReader (you could have the most important PDFs in both) - but the current version on iOS 7 isn't getting very good reviews in terms of its speed and crashes (it's description page says that a major update is coming soon).

  • How to backup chat history in a messenger app

Please, anyone knows how to backup chat history in messenger app other than imessege, like whatsapp, skype, wechat?
I want to make sure if iturns backup is backing up the apps or the apps+documents (chat history) in the apps.
    Thank you.

  • How to backup purchased app to itunes library and restore

How can I backup purchased app to itunes library ( version 11.0.0.163 ) , what I had found in google was old version with different format
    kindly advice , thanks

Connect your device to iTunes. The device should show at the top right just next to the iTunes Store button.
Or on a Mac to View > Show Sidebar, on a PC press Ctrl+S and the device should show in the sidebar
Backup apps and restore as you did in iTunes 10
    Hope that helps

  • How does apple Configurator Backup App data? Or does it at all?

    Hello,
I use Apple Configurator at two schools. All of the iPads that the schools own are supervised via Apple Configurator.
How does the backup feature work in Apple Configurator? I know it backs up folders and photos and videos. But does it backup app data? And how?
I understand that apps themselves are not backed up. But if an iPad is completely wiped / restored via apple configurator / apps are put back on / then backup is restored.... when does the app data get re-applied (if it does at all?)
    Mac OS 10.9.4
    Apple Configurator Version 1.5 (424)
I know iTunes can backup and restore app data. My question is does Apple Configurator do it? And how / what is the best way?
    Thank you.

When you boot yoru iMac, if you hold down the option key, at the boot meny, do you have an option for "Network" booting  If so, then your machine didn't come with an install disc, it allows for internet restore form Apple servers (although it will need to perform the 4.7GB download if you use it).
If you run the Boot Camp Assistant, you should be presented with an option to download the windows support files from Apple servers.  For machines which didn't come with install/restore discs, this is the way to get the files you need.

  • How to backup a macbook pro to icloud

How to Backup a MacBook Pro to Icloud

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can't back up a MacBook to iCloud, as there isn't enough storage to make backups of a Mac. Instead, you can use services like CrashPlan, but the best way to back up your Mac is by using Time Machine or a cloning app like Carbon Copy Cloner onto an external drive. Doing this, you can be sure your data is with you everywhere

  • Backup.app problems when trying to restore from a MYBOOK drive FAT32

I recently purchased a MYBOOK external drive and used backup.app in (Max OS X Vers 10.4) to backup my iphoto files. When I went to restore the files, the restore failed.
I was unaware (when I used backup.app with the MYBOOK destination) that I probably should have reformatted the drive in MAC extended (journal) instead of leaving it in FAT32. I think this is likely the problem.
I have also recently upgraded to Leopard, which seems to be working fine.
Does anyone know how I can retrieve my photos that are sitting out in the external drive (about 30GB of data.....)

If all else fails, you could go to the backup folder itself, right click on it, and fish around to find your JPEG files. Inelegant but you'll be able to get them... the fact that's a FAT32 file won't affect the JPEG files themselves (they don't have resource forks).
Once you have all your data off there I'd definitely suggest you reformat it as HFS+ (Journaled). In fact, to use Time Machine, you must reformat the drive.

  • How to backup all database settings and data for SOA suite to file(s) ?

During the installation of the SOA Suite a couple of tables and schemas are created
in Oracle database through the irca.bat script.
Later the tables are filled with content by all the servers and services of the
    SOA Suite.
How can I backup all these tables and SOA related stuff to one (or more)
files (for a possible later restore)?
This backup should contain only SOA Suite related tables and data.
Possible other tables (for other applications) should not be considered.
Is there a script (e.g. for sqlplus) or menu which does the
SOA database backup job for me ?
If there is no official backup script maybe someone in this forum
    wrote a personal script.
    Thank you
    Peter

  • Going completely computer-free -- how to backup photos?

My sister-in-law, who is not very fluent when it comes to computers and technology, will be going "computer free" soon and buy an iPad mini. (She will get rid of her clunk old Windows machine.) She only does simple email, Skype, and downloads photos from her digital camera to her PC to look at. I think an iPad mini would be great for her.
I know that iCloud backups up almost all of key data, email, etc. The key challenge, though, will be how to backup photos that she takes with her digital camera, uploads to her iPad, and then deletes the photos on her camera (to save space).
I also know that PhotoStream backups up photos taken taken from the iPad. However, I think she could eventually run into these issues:
    1) If she take more than 1000 photos (unlikely, but could happen)
    2) When you import photos using the Camera Connection Kit, the photos do not go into the Camera Roll (they go in the "Last Import" and "All Imported" albums) and thus do not automatically get backed up. You can select the photos and then click Share --> PhotoStream, but she may forget to do this.
I'd like to find a solution that would back up all her photos automatically on her iPad to a cloud service. The closest I could find is the iDrive Photo app, but you have to manually start it each time and select the photos to backup. Dropbox does automatic backup, but only the Camera Roll.
    Anyone have any good ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Photo Manager Pro.
    1. You can sort your photos by dragging them around
    2. Import photos using W-Fi
    3. Import photos using File Sharing
    4. Run slide show with music
    5. Email more than 5 photos at one go
    6. Hide photos in passcode protected folder
