How to backup in recovery mode

Tried to update my ipod and it went into recovery mode and now i have to restore my phone but dont have a recent backup. How can i back it up and restore it after? [I'm sick and tired of apple's BS]

I have a 2009 Macbook pro which will not start up. One day I turned it on, but will not get past the Apple loading page. Since then, I have tried everything to solve this except formatting and reinstalling. Before I do this, I would like to back up the contents of the hard drive (they havn't been backed up before) to a time capsule.
How can I go about doing this? I can open disk utility in recovery mode, but the time capsule doesn't appear (when plugged in with both usb and ethernet). Why isnt time capsule appearning in disk utility and how can I backup my HD?

Once an iOS device is in recovery mode there is no way to back up anything on the device. The best plan is to regularly back up photos and data in the event something happens.

You could try a hard reset
- hold the home button and the sleep/wake button down at the same time
- the phone will turn off, when the apple logo appears release both buttons
More than likely after this you will still be in recovery mode. If so then you would need to restore the phone through itunes on a pc/mac.

Before you roll your eyes, the problem I am having is obviously using bluetooth keyboard, on rebooting, it puts the keyboard to sleep so pressing CMD R whilst rebooting doesn't seem to register. I tried holding down the buttuons how you are suppose to on two different i touch's and it never worked. I need suggestions to a simple program to help get out of recovery mode.

My iPhone randomly popped up with a "connect to iTunes" error message. I haven't backed up recently so I don't want to loose all my recent data. Is there a way to back it up while it's in this "recovery" mode?

No, there is not. That's why its important to sync on a regular basis, as the first thing done when you sync is a backup. The only thing you can do in recovery mode is restore your phone as a new device & resync your itunes content or restore from your last backup.

Yes, you loose everything. Sorry, but there is no way to make a backup now - you really should have been backing up regularly all along, in case something (like this) happened.
All you can do now is restore as new and start over again.
Anything you have purchased from iTunes (apps, music) can be re-downloaded after it is restored.

Take the device to Apple for an Out of Warranty replacement or find a local repair shop. Without a functioning power button it is impossible to determine if the issue is the battery or something else.
