How to Backup iTunes

Is there a way to Backup iTunes onto a harddrive? If you drag the iTunes folder to a harddrive it doesn't always copy correctly. I also don't trust iCloud I want a Hard Copy.

  • How to backup iTunes before reinitializing disk?

I am going to have to re-initialize my HP computer's hard drive. The HP telephone support says that the OS is corrupted and so I need to restore the disk to the state that it was in when I got it.
After restoring the drive, I will have to re-install all of my applications, including iTunes.
How do I save the iTunes configuration? That is, how do I save all of the pointers to all of the files that I have added to iTunes? I can backup the files themselves to my external hard drive. But then I would have to re-do all of the "add to iTunes" commands one file at a time.

  • How to backup iTunes .m4a files

In the event my computer ever crashes, is there any way to backup the songs I've loaded onto my iPod in my iTunes library? I see the .m4a files in the following path:
    C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\(folders)\filename.m4a
Is it just a matter of burning these files to CD and then using this as a backup?
    Thanks-

thanks for this - I have an additional question, if I may-
The majority of the songs on my iPod nano, came in with generic names (i.e. Track01.m4a), as I had burned them from non-iTunes or non-commercial CDs. To get the name/artist to register correctly on both iTunes and my iPod, I had to go in to all the songs individually on iTunes and rename all of them (via right-click on the song title, "Get Info" and inputting the correct name/artist info). So the name/artist show correctly in iTunes and on my iPod.
However, when I go into the path
    C:\Documents and Settings\(me)\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Unknown Artist\Unknown Album,
it looks like all of my "Track*.m4a" files are in there. Which, at worst, I'm guessing, I would just have to go and rename them again (not the end of the world). But I would think that since I renamed them in iTunes, that the renaming would have carried over to the folder above? At worst I would have to go in and rename them all (not the end of the world), but still, trying to limit extra effort if at all possible.
    Thanks!

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D
Source:... This is what I did when this EXACT thing happened to me ;D

Now, I understand how the backup and restore the backup features function. However, if I don't want to transfer the music that I have on iTunes to my phone, how do I avoid it? How do I not transfer the music or take it out of my iPhone if it is already there? I really do not want any music on my iPhone because I have an iPod for that. Thanks. Hope someone can help.

When you connect your phone and start iTunes on the left side you will see your phone listed under devices.Click on te icon next to it that looks like a battery. Click on the music button at the top and uncheck the sync music box.

  • How to backup library before an iTunes reinstallation

I run Vista, and I happened to have the problem of my CD/DVD drive disappearing on me. I googled it, figured out how to fix it by deleting a couple registry items and restarting, and it started working again. Only thing is, right after that every time I open iTunes I now get a message saying iTunes can no longer import CD's because something got changed, please reinstall. I kept ignoring it, and now iTunes won't even open up. So my question is, how can I for back up my iTunes library before uninstalling, so I won't have to manually import every song file. I have multiple copies of some songs and I don't want those back in the library after reinstalling. Also, after that how would I go about reimporting my old library?
    Thank you.

External drives (for backing up) are less than $100.
    Backup software will run automatically.
If everything on your computer disappeared right now or you r hard drive died and it would not affect/bother you in the least, you could get by without a backup.
But since you are here asking how to backup some files...
I highly suggest you consider it.

    Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod.... and follow the instructions.
I could not find anything on the link you provided that pertained to your problem,.

    or what could i do

There are two solutions . . . I run my iTunes Library off an external hard drive. However, this may limit the portability of your library. Though a La Cie Rugged external would help with that (I love mine, though I use it for diagnostics and repair, not for iTunes--but it does get around).
You can also upgrade your hard drive as was previously suggested. I've bought my recent hardware from: http://www.powerbookmedic.com
They have lots of parts and great manuals!
    Good luck!

  • How i backup my contacts to other computer in itunes

how i backup my contacts from one pc to another pc

I assume you sync your phone with an address book on your one computer.  Thus it is in your address book.  So to backup you would back up your address book from your computer as you would normally.  It has nothing to do with the iPhone.
Then you would get that backup into the other computer.
How you go about this is based on your computer and what software you use.  Most common is open your address book on computer and locate option to Export.  Then copy that file to other computer and repeat using the Import option.
