How to backup VM in HyperV (Windows Server 2008 R2)
Hello,
Beginner's question: How to backup my VMs on an external
USB disk?
NB: I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2. It's a test machine, don't care with downtime. I want to backup only the VM (VHD files and VM configuration, not the whole server)
Thanks
Hello,

How to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1
hi i am bhaskar ... how to create restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1 and how to restore system from a restore point in windows server 2008 service pack1.. is this option available or not ? what is the difference between shadow copies and
restore point ? instead of restore point we have this shadow copies option in windows server 2008 ?BhaskarAFIK, Restore Points doesn’t exist in Windows 2008.
Volume Shadow Copy option can be used to achieve:
Creating consistent backups of open files and applications
Creating shadow copies for shared folders
Creating transportable shadow copies using a hardware provider — for backup, testing and data mining scenarios
Quickly recovering and restoring files and data
It is more like a file, data, application backup.

I have applied IPsec policy on local machine(ip address:10.82.138.76) with windows server 2008 ent r2 installed, only permit local machine to comunicate with itself, one other server(ip address:10.82.138.77) and the gateway device(ip address:10.82.138.1).After
i asigned this policy,i can ping the gateway (ip address:10.82.138.1),and the other server(ip address:10.82.138.77),but i can't ping local machine itself(ip address:10.82.138.76),could anybody tell me why and how to solve this problem? When i applied the same
policy to windows server 2003 ent,i can ping the local machine ip address.Hi,
Thanks for your post.
First, try to ping the loopback address 127.0.0.1. If the loopback test succeeds but you cannot ping the local IP address, please post the unedited
ipconfig /all and route print of the problematic computer.
For test purpose, you may refer to the following lab step by step guide to deployment Tunnel Mode IPsec. Hope it helps.

please if any one can give me any solution to run my database console. i don't know any method. i'm new to the oracle.
Thank youI have checked that. but i also say that oracle 10g (10.2.0.4 ) support for windows server 2008 r2 X64.
Windows Server 2008 x64
Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4 or later) for Windows x64 is certified on Windows Server 2008 x64 (all editions). 32-bit Oracle Database Client (10.2.0.4) and higher versions are supported on Windows Server 2008 x64.
I don'y think it's problem of os version or oracle version. Because when we purchase we asked from them what is the recommended version for our os. they told that 10g 10.2.0.4 is ok. previously i have installed this successfully. But now i can't.
however thanks for tried to help me. if u can find out any other reason\s please late me know..
thank you very much. -
How to join srever osx to windows server 2008
Hi
Can any one advise me on the best way to join OS X Server to Windows server 2008 DC.
My ultimate aim is to manage ipads using OS X server by pulling users from Active Directory within Server 2008.
ThanksYou need to join the OS X Server to Active Directory just like any other Mac. This is done usually using Directory Utlity but can also be done via the command line.
Once you have joined it to AD, you then in Server.app switch to showing Network Accounts. These accounts can then be used to authenticate services in Server.app -

Things I have tried:
1. I tried to backup manually to external HDD using wsb snap-in, but it has failed in the same way.
2. Stop and re-add protection.
3. I have researched the error, some results suggest that some bad sectors might exist, however, when I run the command, it forces me to schedule the command on next boot. when I reboot, it loads windows after that gives a message "Cannot open the volume
for direct access"
How to end this loop? please help. Thanks for considering my question ...Hello Ebttikar,
Please try clean boot then test how the issue goes. Following are the detailed steps about clean boot:
Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.
On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Click OK, Choose Don’t show this message again and then click Restart.
Please check if RDP session issue is still the same.
Please let me know the result.
Best regards,
Sophia Sun

How to get dumpel.exe on windows server 2008 R2
I am new to this so please bear with me. I want to use dumpel.exe to extract security event logs on Win Serv 2008 R2 server. How do I get dumpel.exe recognized by the OS
If I use the wevtutil to send the security logs to a text file, my text file is not readable.
wevtutil epl Security c:\Logs\log.txt
This creates the text file with data but it is not readable. When I try to use the format /f:Text, I get syntax error or message that the parameter is not correct. If you go into the Security Event log and right click on an event and do 'Save Selected
Events' as Tab delimited *.txt. See below.

How to install Oracle Instantclient on Windows Server 2008 Web Edition
I am trying to install the Oracle Instantclient on our Windows Web server (x64).
* I downloaded instantclient-basic-win-x86-64-11.1.0.7.0
* Extracted to c:\instantclient
* appended the directory to the path
* created system variable 'SQL_PATH' with same path
* gave everyone all rights to the instantclient folder
* gave network service explicitly all rights to the instantclient folder
* rebooted IIS
* rebooted the server
But still my application keeps returning with System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.
What am i missing/doing wrong? It seems i have mixed and merged all possible solutions which Google would return.Since System.Data.OracleClient is a Microsoft library, you'd better ask them.
Or use Oracle's provider:

I am using Windows Server 2008 R2. I want to enable hibernation on server 2008 R2. I have checked the feature in power options but it dose not show any option for sleep & hibernation. I have tried to enable from command prompt by using powercfg -h on
but getting error message that this feature is not supported by firmware. I have updated the firmware but still getting same error.
Also checked with powercfg /energy & getting given below errors.
Platform Power Management Capabilities:System firmware (BIOS) does not support S3.
The hardware in this computer does not support the S3 sleep state.
Platform Power Management Capabilities:System firmware (BIOS) does not support S4 (Hibernate).
The hardware in this computer does not support the S4 (Hibernate) state.
Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility
with the hardware in this computer.
Can anyone suggest me how can I enable hibernation on windows server 2008 R2 64 bit.
Thanks.Hello,
I hate to suggest the obvious, but i'd say your hardware does not support sleep or hibernate.

Upgrading windows server 2003 domain controller to windows server 2008
Hello friedns :
We have a company with about 2000 users , and two windows server 2003 domain controllers , one of them acts as a primary domain controller , and the other acts as secondary domain controller , all the FSMO s are on the primary DC ,we have decided to upgrade all of our servers from windows server 2003 to windows server 2008 , the first step is to upgrade the domain controllers to windows server 2008 , our domain controllers are so sensitive and has to be active 24 hours a day , i have stress upgrading it to windows server 2008 , what is the best solution to upgrade it with no risk ?
( i have an opinion but i am not sure and i dont have any guide about it , i want to install a windows server 2008 and promote it as an additional domain controller to the windows server 2003 DC and the transfer all the FSMOs to it , and then promote the first domain controller !!! is that possible ? if yes , is there any guide about it? )
If there is a guide available for it please let me know . (Specially if there is a tip & trick)
thank you guys.

How to Upgrade Domain Controllers to Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee522994(WS.10).aspx
For your convenience, I have list some general steps for your reference.
Since the following operation have potential damage to Active Directory database, it is highly suggested that you'd better perform a full backup of Active Directory (System State) firstly. Also it is better to test the following procedure in a similar lab environment first.
General Steps:
=============
1. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to the current DNS server.
2. Make the new server become a member server of the current Windows Server 2003 domain first.
3. Upgrade the Windows Server 2003 forest schema to Windows Server 2008 schema with the "adprep /forestprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /forestprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the schema master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
Drive:\sources\ADPREP\adprep.exe /forestprep
4. Upgrade the Windows 2003 domain schema with the "adprep /domainprep" command on old server.
Please run the "adprep.exe /domainprep" command from the Windows Server 2008 installation disk on the infrastructure master. To do this, insert the Windows Server 2008 installation disk, and then type the following command:
Drive:\sources\ADPREP \adprep.exe /domainprep
5. Insert Windows Server 2008 Installation Disc in the new server.
6. Run "dcpromo" on new server to promote it as an additional domain controller in existing Windows 2003 domain, afterwards you may verify the installation of Active Directory.
Please refer to:
How to Verify an Active Directory Installation in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816106
7. Verify the new server's TCP/IP configuration has been pointed to current DNS server.
8. Enable Global Catalog on new server and manually Check Replication Topology and afterwards manually trigger replication (Replicate Now) to synchronize Active Directory database between 2 replicas.
Please note: It will some time to replicate GC between DC, please wait some time with patience.
9. Disable Global Catalog on the old DC.
10. Transfer all the FSMO roles from the old DC to the new DC.
Please refer to:
How to view and transfer FSMO roles in Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324801
11. Verify that the old DNS Server Zone type is Active Directory-Integrated. If not, please refer to:
How To: Convert DNS Primary Server to Active Directory Integrated
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816101
Note: Active Directory Integrated-Zone is available only if DNS server is a domain controller.
12. Install DNS component on new server and configure it as a new DNS Server (Active Directory Integrated-Zone is preferred). All the DNS configuration should be replicated to the new DNS server with Active Directory Replication.
13. Make all the clients change TCP/IP configuration to point to new server as DNS.
14. You may configure TCP/IP on all the clients, or adjust DHCP scope settings to make them use the new DNS server.
Please note: It is a good practice to make the old DC offline for several days and check whether everything works normally with the new server online. If so, you may let the old DC online and run DCPROMO to demote it.
Hope it helps.

Wilson Jia

You need to configure folder redirection.
Folder redirection enables access local folders during the remote session. Click the + button at the bottom of the dialog and choose a folder you want to have
redirected.
Configure Folder Redirection:
1. Click the + button.
2. In the Add Local Folder window, enter the following information:
l
Name: Set a name for the folder to be available during the remote session.
l
Path: Select the path to the folder to be available during the remote session.
3. Click the close button to save the remote desktop.

Offline data synchronization in azure mobile services on windows server 2008
Hi,
I have a class library which insert data into tables in azure mobile services on windows server 2008 OS for windows universal C# platform. I am trying to insert data using offline data synchronization.
I had installed SQLite runtime for windows 8.1 and windows phone 8.1, but unable to add reference 'SQLite for Windows Runtime(Windows8.1)'.
Please guide me whether windows server 2008 OS supports offline data synchronization in azure mobile services.
Thank you.I also have a Windows Server 2012 R2 system using Azure Backup, and I don't have the problem. However, you probably noticed that you use a different Azure Backup installation download for Windows Server 2008 R2 vs. Windows Server 2012 R2. Although both
show the same Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent version 2.0.8692.0 installed, my Windows Server 2012 R2 also lists Microsoft Azure Backup for Windows Server Essentials version 6.2.9805.9 installed as well. It could be the case the my problem with the
CATALOG FAILURE 0x80131500 errors is something specific to the version of Azure Backup installed on my Windows 2008 R2 servers.

Error Exporting Printer's Queue Windows Server 2008 ENTERPRISE SP2
When I try to make a Backup the printers on Windows Server 2008 with Printer Migration
I get the following error:
Windows Encountered errors during the migration process.
please anyone can help me.Most likely someone performed some registry edits that although they got the print server operational, it blocks backups up through the Windows 7 version.
I have referenced a couple ways to get around this issue in the forum. Here's a post with your issue.

Weblogic 11g on windows server 2008 - run WLST
how to configure weblogic 11g on windows server 2008 to run a simple WLST script
I managed to get so far on Windows to run a WLST script. Most examples are in Unix
I am in Dos, and ran our set environment variables.
Run java weblogic.WLST
To use WLST in interactive mode:java weblogic.WLST
I get as far as wls:/offline> connect('weblogic','weblogic','localhost:7001')
This works,
So now I am trying to figure out how to display the server state of the server, most examples are for unix.
Would any one have one that shows the server state, number of connections, and the number of active threads or stuck.
Just a a pointer would help me.
CheersYou can refer this

Windows Server 2008 R2: Using PowerShell to send a MSI file to all workstations
Hello!
We are currently using Windows Server 2008 R2. In the upcoming months, we are releasing new software. Instead of touching all the machines with gpupdate /force, we would like to know if we could somehow use Windows PowerShell and send that
command to all the computers in our organization? We are currently in the process of using Group Policy Management to set up the new GPO. After we create them, we would like to send the MSI file to all workstations. I know it is SUPER easy to do within Windows
Server 2012... as I have read articles and seen screenshots. I am just having a hard time figuring out how to make it work with Windows Server 2008 R2.
Thanks!
MeganNew-PSSession -computername Computer
where Computer is one of your remote computers. If that succeeds, great! But I'm guessing it won't and enabling that on all of your computers would require more effort than what you're trying to accomplish in the first place.
Psexec is free to download and you don't have to deploy it:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx
As far as identifying your target computers, it really depends on your environment. Get-ADComputer is effective, but the example I provided above would get literally every computer in your active directory - is this something you want to deploy to
any and all servers, workstations, etc? How big and complex is your AD? Is this something you need to coordinate with all your systems around about the same time, or can it be staggered? Do you expect your target computers not to reboot between
now and then? I know that's a lot of questions, but your question is loaded and not easy to answer without knowing more about your environment.
What about this?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134201.aspx
There is a requirement to have certain firewall exceptions on your target systems, but hopefully they are because that is the best approach.
I hope this post has helped!
