How to batch change filenames in iPhoto 09?

I have a dilema... The photos I've taken with my Leica have a certain filename convention (e.g. L0001, L0002, etc.) and the photos I've taken with my Canon have a different filename convention (e.g. IMG_0001, IMG_0002, etc.).
When I import these photos into iPhoto they are arranged my date and time, which is what I want. When I upload these photos (all one giant Event) to my MobileMe gallery they are uploaded and arranged chronologically but by filename, meaning all the Leica photos are first in their order, then all of the Canon photos in their order. The MobileMe gallery does not match my Event.
How can I fix this?
-Keith

you can not change file names in iPhoto - it is critical that you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the content or structure of the iPhoto library
YOu can export the files using the option to sequentially name them
You can change the file names prior to importing to iPhoto (use image capture to download your files and use a program like name mangler to batch rename them)

  • How to batch change the standard value of routing

    Dear all,
I meet a problem, and need you help.
As you know, we can use T-code "CS20"  to batch change a component's quantity in different Bom by a factor.
           for example:  Component a in Fert. A,  quantity change from 6g x 0.9 = 5.4g
                               Component a in Fert. B,  quantity change from 8g x 0.9 = 7.2g
now, my question is how to Batch change the standard value in routing. (select by work center)  CA85N can select the value, but seems can not batch change by a factor,
           thanks in advance

Change the dates on the photos. Then, to force iPhoto to revise the ctalogue, flag the photos and go: Events: New Event from Flagged Photos.

  • Will Apple add the "Batch Change" option from iPhotos into Photos?

Will Apple add the "Batch Change" option from iPhotos into Photos?  It appears to be a major complaint across the board and a severe limitation.  I see complaints about this all through the forum.  Apple?

We have no idea.  But to help them make that decision tell Apple what additional features you want in Photos via both http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html and http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html  since they don't have a feedback page for Photos as yet.

  • Can I batch change titles within iPhoto while keeping the original IMG_(4digit) filename/title as PART of the new title?

Using iPhoto '09/8.1.2 on a MacBookPro, with 40,000+ photo library, having the (apparently common) problem of CD burn errors (with Toast and with Disk Utility) when 2 photos end up having the same underlying filename assigned by the camera.  To try to avoid this, I want to retitle pictures within iPhoto so I can utilize the "use title as filename" option when exporting (because I guess I can't burn CDs from WITHIN iPhoto because of this problem, right?).  I was hoping to create new titles that were a combination of the existing 4 digit filename assigned by the camera, combined with new descriptive text (either date, or event title would be fine), and hoping to save time by using Batch Change (which I've never tried - just seen it mentioned here in perusing discussions).  I've also seen reference to "Automator" (which may be over my head), but again not sure if that can be used within iPhoto to combine existing/new title text.  (Also, I saw mention of a script written by Toad at Toad Hall site, but the link to it was bad - may be over my head, also: never tried a "script" before...)  Thanks in advance!

No.  Coming out of iPhoto you're limitied to the Title, real file name, Album name or (in the Export window) Text  with or without sequential number.
However, if you export out with the orignal file name to a folder you can use a file renaming app to add whatever common text to the beginning of the file name so you would get XXXX XXX-IMG 1234.jpg.  Some renamers can remove the IMG bore adding the text at the beginning.
The app that I use and like best is Name Mangler.  Very powerfull.

  • How to change filename in iPhoto?

    Hi,
I can't seem to find out how i can "rename" the photos in iPhoto - so it also changes in "Finder"?
("Rename them for eks. "IMG001.jpg" to "Sunrise.jpg")
I've tried to rename them in "Finder", but then iPhoto can't recognize them anymore.
Is this a fact? Or is there a way to do this?
    Help? :o)

When I click on a photo in Iphoto and I look to the bottom left of my screen where it shows the "information" box, the first line states Title, that is where it shows my new name I gave the pic. What I do is select all photos in an event, click batch change, and then click title and then type my new name (ex. 2009-01-09).
That’s how you do it. No problems there.
My canon (an apple product) came with its own program for downloading pics (imagebrowser).
Canon are a large multinational all of their own. Apple don’t own them.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to batch change a date in aperture

Is it possible to batch change a date in aperture the way I do it in iphoto (command option B)?  I dont want relative dates, I want a group of scanned pictures (negatives) to have the same date, but separated by one second.

    Dale,
Aperture does not support this. I wrote a little Apple Script to adjust the data and time like iPhoto and posted it on my web page. You may have a look and take this as a starting point. I wrote the script last year; so it has only been tested with Aperture 3.2.4 and Lion, not with the current version: The script is here: Adjust Date and Time in fixed increments
But no guarantees given for the current Aperture version 3.4.3.

  • How to batch change in new Photo app

I switched over to the new Photo app. I imported my photos from my iPhone, and then went to batch change the titles (which I use to search for specific pictures and places). I can't find an option anywhere to change anything more than one photo at a time! I uploaded over 200 pictures, I can't make modifications a photo at a time.

Batch change the titles in another app before you import the photos  into Photos, for example in iPhoto.
Or use keywords instead of titles. You can select multiple photos and assign a keyword to all photos at the same time from the Keyword Manager.

I posted this problem in another forum and think it belong here.

How can I change all the files in the directory over to read/write? Is there an easy way to do this?

BatChmod is a good GUI application for changing permissions.
Or you can try this in a Terminal window:
chmod -R u+rwX [spacebar, drag folder to Terminal window, press return]

  • How to batch change year only?

I would like to batch change the year only (leaving all other metadata, to include day and time, the same.  In a recent 5 day shoot I have discovered that my camera was set on 2013 rather than 2014.  Is this possible?  The date, to include year, does not seem to be an option under metadata batch change.  If I select all the photos and then change the year, it seems that all of them will also be set to the exact same day and time.  I am looking for an option other than changing the year on each one separately.  Thanks!

    bobio wrote:
The result would be that all photos have the exact same date (month/day/year) and exact same time.
    What am I missing?
The small print! (in the dialog to change the date/time). It says: 'The original date and time of the primary selection is shown below. Adjust it to the correct time and all selected versions will be time-shifted accordingly".
What it means is based on the time difference you give it for the primary image, it will apply the same difference (time-shift) to all the others.

  • How to batch rename filenames based on metadata tags

    // Hello,
I have a few hundred photos I need to batch rename pulling the info from the metadata caption tags (Each caption is unique).
What I need to do can happen just on export if necessary. I've tried Aperture 2 and Automator but no luck.
Any advice would be great. Thank you,

I would like to batch rename all of the files (masters and versions) with a consecutive index (1, 2, 3, and so on).
Select the images in the project and then use ( from the main Aperture application menu)
         Matadata -> Batch Change (Shift-Command-B)
Set the Version Name format to one of the "Custom with Index ..." or "Custom with Counter ..." formats and check "Apply to Master Files". Make sure you disable all other changes that you do not want, like Time Zone correction, or keywords.

  • How to batch change all iPhoto imported movies and keep them in same event?

I have several years of AVI movies that won't be read in iMovie 08 but can be viewed and played using QT from iPhoto 08.
Anybody know how i can batch convert the entire library of movies in my iPhoto library to mac happy format and keep their creation date, save them back into the same location, and modify iPHoto database to re-path to new clips then remove old? I must maintain organization as these videos are labeled, and dated and sorted according to my daughters entire life! I don't want a new folder with 1000 vidoes, I like to keep them in the 'event' folder they live in and have iPhoto point to them instead of the .avi files that iphoto has no problem with but iMovie does.
Sounds insane, but it's the only solution i can think of to use iLife products with one of the most popular compact digital camera's in the world which saves in a format that works perfectly everywhere else within my mac other then iLife.
I'm sorry if i sound a little peeved.. i've been desperately trying to make a solid pipeline for personal media out of my mac since i've switched over, and found that unless your media is born and dies in quicktime, the mac isn't really that friendly.

Not quite an answer, but perhaps the way towards an answer:
You want to round trip these avi files out of iPhoto, convert them to a different file type and the bring them back into iphoto whole preserving all of the arrangements you have for them in iPhoto. Correct?
You cannot do that for a very simple reason, and that is converting the file type will create a new file with a new file name.
SO we have to be clever... and this might be a way to do that:
    1. Title the files in iPhoto to use their Creation date in the title (so we get Jan 01 2005 - Her First Steps.avi, or somesuch.) I suggest this, but there may be a way to change the file date on the new movies that I don't know about.
    2. Export the files in batches - month by month say - to the desktop and there, process them into the new format. (You'll need to research the Software for that job yourself, I'm no help there)
Now we have a file called Jan 01 2005 - Her First Steps.mov (or whatever the suffix is going to be.
    3. Create a new library in iPhoto (hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto, choose 'Create Library' Give it a distinctive name: The great library fix, or somesuch)
    4. When you have the new library organised to mirror - as much as possible, delete the avi's from your main library, and use iPhoto Library Manager to move the reformatted files back...
That's an approach to the issue. Have a think about it, maybe it'll spark you - or someone else to come up with some improvements - or a whole better model.
Or, we could try and get v7 to read the movies like v6 did... what are the symptoms?

  • Using Iphoto 11 how do I change filename on photo so when it exports it does so in same sequence as Album created in.  Finder does not have option to keep as is... Thanks to anyone who can help me with this !

The photos must be viewed in sequence as prepared with the filenames I have chosen to describe them.
How can I just simply transfer this over to a dvd ?  Any help is appreciated !
    Thank You

There are two ways to export photos so they remain in the same order as you put them in the iPhoto album:
    A:
1 -  select the photos in the album and use the Photos ➙ Batch Rename  ➙ Title to Text menu with the option to add a sequential number to the file name.
2 - Export out of iPhoto via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export with the option File Name = Title.
    B:
1 - select all of the photos in the album and export via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export with the option File Name = Album name with number.
Both method will produce file with the following file name format:  xxxx-01.jpg, xxxx-02.jpg, etc., which will be in the order you had in iPhoto when view alphanumerically in the Finder.
