How to be able to import things from a DVD?

I got this Sony DVD Handycam that can only be connected to the computer by the USB Port, and I know that I need it to be FireWire so the Mac recognizes it.
If I plug the cam by USB, the computer recognizes it, but as some kind of DVD Reader, and I'm able to view the movie by using Apple's DVD Player. I could extract it, but the problem is what can I do to be able to import the video in iMovie for then to edit it? Is there a way to convert or something?

If Apple DVD Player can play it and you can extract it out onto your hard drive, then you have a MPEG-2 video data you can convert to DV, then import the DV file into iMovie. I lost my session about two days ago, with a lot of important tabs that just vanished as I upgraded my Firefox.
Now I don't know if it is possile to restore that session. I didn't have the session-manager extension installed..
I also found in:
C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxx.default
some files that I think they might be useful, that are called "sessionstore" (JScript script file).

Same thing is happening with me. IPhoto will not import .jpg from my Kodak! It used to all the time. Now it gives me an error msg saying .jpg is in the wrong file format. Can someone help?

I have a Sony HDR-SR10 camera. I have previously been able to import videos from it to iMovie '08, but now I always get an error :
*An Error Occurred During Import*
There was a problem importing 1 of 1 clips from your camera. Please review the imported movies carefully.
I can't think of anything which has changed since when I was able to import movies, except that I have upgraded to Snow Leopard.

No, I don't have any other software that can convert the videos. Is there any free software which can do it?
I did try repairing the image database on the camera, but it didn't help.
I don't know if this is clear from my previous post, but none of the clips on the camera can be imported; it's not just some of them. There are hundreds of clips on the camera...
Sony have told me I should upgrade to iMovie '09; do you know if this is likely to help? Could the problem be caused by running iMovie '08 on Snow Leopard?

Try the following to fix the iTunes Can't Connect issue that you are having:
Open Settings.
Open General.
Open Date & Time.
Switch the Set Automatically setting to Off.
Open Set Date & Time.
Set the date to a year ahead.
Go back to the Home screen and open Passbook.
Tap the App Store button. The App Store should load.
Go back to Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically.

We only have 1 single domain, 1 domain forest, no subdomains, only alias. I had replied to the other post as well. But I am happy to paste it here in case anyone want to read it.
So, after a few months of testing, capture and sending logs back and forth to Apple Engineers, we found out there is a setting in AD, under User Account that prevent us to log into AD from Mountain Lion. If you would go to your AD server, open up a user account properties, then go to Account tab, the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" option is checked. As soon as I uncheck that option, immediately I was able to log into AD on the Mac client. Apple engineers copied all my AD settings and setup a test environment on their end and match exact mine AD environment. They was able to reproduce this issue.
The bad part about this is... our environment required the "Do not require Kerberos preauthentication" is checked in AD, in order for our users to login into some of our Unix and Linux services. Which mean that it is impossible for us to remove that check mark because most, if not all of them some way or another require to login into applications that run on Unix and Linux. Apple is working to see if they can come up with a fix. Apparently, no one has report this issue except us. I believe most of you out there don't have that check mark checked in your environment... Anyone out there have any suggestion to by pass or have a work around for this?

Can you import video from a DVD? I have some home DVD's made on my PC. My PC program (Roxio) allowed me to pull clips off of a DVD, but I can not seem to figure out how to do it with iMovie on my Mac.

Hi, I'll see if I can help. The only way I know of importing directly from iMovie off of a DVD is with a converter box hooked up to an external DVD player. However there are a few freeware programs you could try. One is Handbrake, with it you can convert your DVD into a MPEG-4 file, this is incredibly easy however the quality will be a little lower than that of a DVD. Another program is MactheRipper which will rip the entire DVD onto your hard drive but you will have to hunt through all the files to find the ones you want. I hope this helps.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

Hi there. You are using Network Magic, right? You can reconnect them by manual configuration which means you have to open the wifi settings on those devices and connect to your wireless network from there. If it does not work you might want to restart the service for your Network Magic. How? The steps are as follows (I found this from an online website before but I am not sure if it was from purenetworks.com):
1. Open Computer or My Computer.
2. Open drive C
3. Open Program Files
4. Open Pure Networks
5. Open Network Magic
6. Open Support folder
7. Double click serveme
8. Serveme icon appears on the tray. Right click icon and click on StopNMservice. The icon turns red from green.
9. Right click serveme icon and click on DeleteNetworkLib.xml. Right click again and click Force First Run.
10. Restart your computer.
That will restart the service for your NM software.
