To add to the above, since you're running Windows your choices are Outlook if you have it on your computer (the full version, not Outlook Express), or the MobileMe service. You would load contacts into one of those two places, and then sync them to the iPhone via the settings in iTunes.
Well sort of Outlook Express. Outlook Express uses the windows built in Windows Address Book (found in Accessories). And you can sync with the Windows Address Book (as I do).

  • Restore contacts from the iPhone to our iMac?

Recently the hard drive in our iMac crashed and needed replacements.  We want to restore the contacts from the iPhone.  How do we make that happen?

Copy everything from your backup copy of your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you would have to enter a unique contact in your computer.  When you first sync, then you should get the option to merge.

  • How to save contacts FROM an iphone 3GS

My main computer with which my iphone has been synced (grammar?) has irretrievably died. I have backups of most of my music, apps etc. can be downloaded again but I have about 500 contacts on my iphone which I need to keep and save on my new iMac. Not surprisingly when I plug in the iphone iTunes asks me if I want to erase it and sync with the new computer. Presumably if I do this then all my contacts will be lost.
Is there some program I can use to save my contacts from the iphone to the Mac and then re-sync them back again onto the iphone?
    Thanks

The iphone, by design, will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. That's what the message means you're getting. Since you've backed up your itunes library & added such to your new computer, this won't be a problem. Regarding your contacts & other data, do the following:
If you restore all of your data(photos, music, apps) to your new computer, including your itunes library, you'll be OK. Remember, the itunes library sync is one way, computer>phone. Same with photos not in your camera roll, one way, computer>phone. Just do the following:
    1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes.
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in Address Book & iCal. The entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
Your phone should look exactly like it did when you started, but now you're syncing to your new computer.

  • How to sync MobileMe contacts from the iPhone?

    Hello,
Initially, I had the same contacts database on MobileMe and on my iPhone.
Both contacts lists originated from my Mac Address Book.
Syncing was not switched on - I simply forgot about it.
Since then, many additional contacts have been added to the data on my iPhone - that's where I casually enter new contacts during the day, not my computer.
Now I realize, I would need to sync my enlarged contacts data from my iPhone to MobileMe.
Or, back to my Mac Address Book.
When I want to switch on syncing, my iPhone says "Syncing with MobileMe will remove your existing contacts from your iPhone".
    This is not good!
I want it just the other way around: MobileMe should be overwritten with the iPhone data!
Is this syncing a one-way street? It can not be...
Could anybody please help, how I can solve this?
    Thankyou.

When first turning on over the air syncing for contact information on your iPhone, it is in one direction only - from what is available at MobileMe to your iPhone. Afterwards, the sync process is bidirectional.
Sync your iPhone with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process. Then sync the Address Book on your Mac with MobileMe. Make sure the Address Book on your Mac has been synced with MobileMe before turning on over the air syncing for contact information with MobileMe on your iPhone. Leave it on and any contact information entered on your iPhone will be synced with MobileMe and vice-versa from then on.

  • HT201269 How can i sync my contacts from the iPhone to my mac pro?

    Hi
I am trying to sync my contacts on my IPhone to the mac pro but it seems not work.
Any one faced this issue and solved, Please advice.

If you want your contacts to remain in sync across iOS devices, then you can use any Exchange-type of account.  For example, once you have a "clean" set of contacts with no duplicates, you could upload that into iCloud so that any change you make from your iPad would be reflected on your iPhone.  You don't have to use iCloud for e-mail since your devices can pull a contact from iCloud for use with GMail or Yahoo.
But you can also set GMail up as an Exchange account if you don't want to use iCloud.  The GMail account type in iOS is not Exchange, but you can set it up that way:

The benefit of doing this is (a) your Google contacts remain in sync across all your devices, and (b) your GMail will then support Push notification.  Just one caveat, when you do this then the default behavior when you delete an e-mail is such that it is archived to your "All Mail" folder in GMail.  The only way to change this behavior is to use your device's Safari to navigate to m.google.com/sync and change the setting on Google's server for each of your devices.  This is a one-time thing, but important if you want trashed e-mails to really go to Trash.
As far as Contact Management Software options to clean things up, Google search is the only recommendation I have

  • How can I sync my contacts from the iPhone to google contacts while checking for duplicates?

I have been using Outlook to sync contacts and it works well.  Now I would like to get rid of Outlook and put the contacts that I have into my gmail and Yahoo contact accounts and keep all 3 in sync.  When I do it the first time, I'd like to be able to check for duplicates.  Is there a way to do this?

    I have an E72.
How can I access the company directory from the recipient field of a new mail or a new meeting invitation?
Mail for Exchange is configured correctly, syncing of mails and calendar works fine. Yet there seems to be no way I can access the company directory to write mails to people who are not in my local address book.

I had an incomplete backup of my music on an external hard drive.  I had to have my hard drive replaced.  I now have music on my iPhone that is not on my MacBook Pro.  It is music that was not purchased from the iTunes store, but it was uploaded from a CD (which I no longer have).  How can I transfer music from my iPhone to my MacBook?

Turingtest2's user tip will help you with this.
Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
