How to beautify ma LabView panel?

Hello there,
I want to beautify my LabView panel, but how?
How can I change the colour of my Background?
Importinga "picture" file in what format/size?
How to rescale a tank?
Please help me, Ruth.

Hi Ruth,
You can change the color of your background by first going to set color tool from the Tools Palette. You make choose any color by clicking on the two squares(it would appear like the one in Paint file). Also in the front panel you have the option to choose the size, color, font, etc. You can do that by dropping the menu "13 Application Font" (by the pause button).
For rescaling any object you can select the Select/position/size tool and then move(drag to englarge or srink)the tank to resize it.
Also below I have attached the link to a document where it describes in detail about the customization.

Hope this helps !

how to add silver front panel theme for labview 2010

    Mahisnair wrote:
yes i had tried this way but the vi built with silver theme doesnt look good in 2010 :-(
wish if there was a way to include silver theme in 2010
The only way I see to make it like that would be to recreate the theme in LabVIEW 2010 with external bitmap objects. Unfortunately it won't be as functional as the silver controls in various terms such scaling (bitmaps scale very badly) or transparency and click through functionality (a bitmap assigned to a control part will always catch all clicks and never allow a click to pass through anywhere to a lower layered part).
The silver controls are using special internal graphic objects that were added in LabVIEW 2011, so recreating silver controls with the same functionality in earlier LabVIEW versions is impossible.

  • How to make a remote panel file dialog open remote directory from any computer

Hello to everybody. I am using Labview 6.1 and I would like to know how to make a remote panel file dialog open remote directory from any computer (Not only from a specific computer. If I open the file with a specific computer, I have to conect the path of the remote machine, but if I don´t know which remote computer is going to run the aplication, how can I do it?)?

    Hi!
first you have to know progammatically the name of the remote pc connected to your server: this is a problem!
I did not find a straigth way, LV 6.1 doesn't allow much progammatic control on the remote panel connection feature, but I'm confident that in the next LV version this will be improved!
The point is that the Remote Panel Connection Manager (from the Tools menu) has all the informations about the connection: client name, server vi and whatever.
This application is embedded in the \PROJECT\REMOTEPANEL.LLB and consists of a set of password protected vis.
So here's the trick: use VIServer to grab data from the rpcm Get Server Data.vi when the Remote Panel Connection Manager is in run mode. By this you get all the informations (not only client name)o
f the remote panel connection. See my example.
By the way use client machine name to build the file dialog function input path.
If anybody has an alternative method it would be more than appreciated to share it.
    Good luck,

  • How do I install LabVIEW 6.0 over the evaluation version? I can't un-install the evaluation version.

I get the message that another version of LabVIEW 6.0 is already installed and it won't let me install 6.0. How do I get rid of the evaluation version?

I don't have LabVIEW in my Add/Remove Programs. I may have at one time, but
can't remember. The removal must have been incomplete becasue LabVIEW 6.0
says "Another version of this produce is already installed." The same thing
happens if I try to reinstall the evaluation version.

  • How to resize the front panel to fit different resolutions

    I m using LabVIEW 8.2 on Windows XP SP2
I've tried both “maintain proportions of window for different monitor resolutions” and “scale all objects on front panel as the window resizes” selected but just messed up everything when i switched to another different resolution. It's annoying since I'm using 22 inch monitor to do the coding but the user supposed to run it on laptop or wince.
    Any solutions to it?
    Thx in advance.

Thank you all. Following is the reply from NI support.  I think the best way is to edit vi in low resolution.
One of the easiest ways to tackle varying screen resolutions is to design
the front panel to the lowest resolution that you expect it to run on. It
should then look acceptable on any screen larger than that.
However, you can get a bit more tricky by programmatically determining the
computer's screen resolution and then dynamically changing the size of your
front panel objects. Use an Application Property Node and select
Display>>All Monitors to return the current screen size. Then, according to
the screen size, you can size the control or indicator programmatically
using the Size property node for your front panel objects.
Ultimately, these issues have often been a result of font size issues.
Specifically, this can be a problem when two machines have different
desktop theme/font settings. If your objects are coming out in different
sizes on different computers, you can setup up LabVIEW to use the same font
on different systems by modifying the .INI file.
The easiest way is to do this: use Tools->Options->Fonts from the LabVIEW
GUI. You can then set the system fonts to anything you want. After you
have done this on one machine, open your INI file (it is in the same
directory as the LabVIEW executable) with any text editor and copy the
corresponding entries to another file. Add these entries to the INI files
on any machines you want to lock to font. You will probably run into
issues if you are supporting different platforms (Windows and Mac or Mac
and Linux, for example), since the fonts you want may not be available on
both platforms. There are Windows fonts available for both Mac and Linux
platforms, so this can be somewhat ameliorated.
This is all I can think of, but that's not to say these are the only
solutions. You might check the Discussion Forums, as many of our LabVIEW
Champions have tackled similar issues and offer their expertise as well.

I want to make a DAQ card using pic 18 microcontroller which has a built-in usb protocol. I have the firmware of this

Which labview version do you have. Up to labview 7.1 it was no USB raw communication options. I have heard it did not work well in 7.1, but from 8.x most of the errors were fixed.

  • How do I position to panels in a single frame?

    Hi,
Can someone tell me how i can position two panels in a single frame using the BorderLayout class.
I have included my code below. When it is run it shows two JPanels positioned at the top and the bottom, a text area to the right, a panel in the center and a panel on the left. I want to get the panel on the left - the yellow panel - to be positioned in the lower third of the center panel. I have tried to use the BorderLayout.SOUTH statement - but this positions the panel across the very bottom which causes the bottom JPanel and part of the text area to disappear.
Can anyone help with this please???

One solution would be to create a new panel, bothPanels and adding the two panels that you need to this panel.
Once you have done that, you can add bothPanels to contentArea.add( bothPanels, BorderLayout.CENTER)

  • How can I use LabVIEW to send the equivalent of a CTRL D (in VT 100 format) out the serial port of my computer?

I am trying to write a vi that interfaces with a piece of OEM equipment that is set up to talk with a VT 100 terminal. I can't seem to locate the ASCII equivalent string (if there is such a thing) of a CTRL D. Is there a vi that emulates VT 100 commands?

If I recall, CTRL-D is EOF on most ASCII tables.
You'd probably have to use an escape sequence
or if you can use an unsigned 8-bit that might be
    easier.

how to program in labview to capture those two packet and then combine it together
so i have 10 bit in lab view
    thank you

Close, but now quite. You need to specify to the VISA Read how many bytes to read, not how many bits. Thus, the input would be 2, not 16. It's also not clear why you're trying to use the "String to Byte Array". The Type Cast will give you a number based on what data type you wired. You're basically telling it how to interpret the string. In this case we're telling it to interpret the string a 16-bit value, so we'll get a 16-bit integer. I know you said you wanted a 10-bit, but you can't have that. You'll get a 16-bit with 6 bits set to zero. Note: I did not completely understand what you said so we may need to change this slightly, but we want to get the communication and reading collection working first.
Also, since you seem to be setting this in a loop you probably want to monitor this or to collect the data. For that you need a shift register. See attached for a modified version of your attempt. You need to set the datatype to I16 or U16 based on whether the value you get from the PIC is signed or unsigned.
