I have read dozens of books on various aspects of programming in college while gaining my degree in Computer Science, and then dozens more afterward. When I have to learn a language, I have found by experience: there just isn't any substitute or shortcut except to go straight through project by project.
Keep in mind each language has it basic fundamental elements: loops, conditionals, some kind of IO or various levels of IO. Lean the fundamentals and then learn the syntax for the specific language you have chosen.
A writer writes: a programmer must create (do it each and every day in the language you are learning--then do it a lot more).

I read java ee 6 tutorial and know basics of that. what is another step to become a true developer? i am confused with spring and swing and others.

How to remove a java script pop up

Hi,
I imported a robohelp document from another company and i am
catering it to my company's needs. The problem is they have popups
which refer to .bmp and it is in java script. If i highlight the
word which has the pop up and remove the popup and then highlight
the normal word again and refer it to my topic in the project
manger; it still refers to their image and not mine. It is strange
but true. I don't know how to remove the java script cos each time
i hover over the highlighted text there are 2 red squares on the
left and right hand side of the word highlighted which i want to
change from their image to mine.
Any help would be much appreciated .

if you could paste this code on your word doc and try to
search for .bmp it exactly shows where it is used i tried removing
that line but it acted strange as even when i added a pop up to a
word it does not show anything in the view mode.

How & where to start with?Do you have any experience programming in any language? If not and you want to start with Java, look up Java Tutorials on google. Or check out java.sun.com for tutorials and examples that are good for beginners. At least learn the basic syntax and structure of the Java language first. From there you can move onto other things like algorithms and design patterns.
Any dress code?How you dress doesn't make you a better or worse programmer. However, if you work for a company you should follow their dress code.

They should be reported to the moderators.
Now, with newbies, I, at least, strive to be gentle, by for example, sending them an email asking them to read the Rules of Engagement, and to try to search first. I even suggest what keywords to use. But if they've a few hundred posts, then they'll get a stern rejection. Even then, some people just don't pay attention. sigh On the other hand, some people manage to get a stay of execution by showing, and proving, a desire to change. One of our best contributors came very close to guestification in the early days, but "heaven has more joy over one sinner who repents...!".
My goal as a moderator is to keep the forums clean and useful. Not just as a place to ask questions and get answers, but also a searchable resource. Otherwise, we might as well just delete all questions older than a month!

Hi friends,
Thank you for trying to help me out.
Let me explain it a bit to remove the ambiguity.
I have 10 documents nested under a book. Each of these documents have 'n' number of pages. I want to apply my custom made master page "First" to the first page of all these 10 documents in one go. The remaining pages of the documents have to be in default "Right" master page format. How will I do it?
I tried selecting all the documents and importing the formats from another document with the custom made "First" master page. The master page format is getting imported but the first page of all the documents still remain with the default "Right" master page format.
I think now my question is more clear...

How to Generate a Java file for a JSP Page

I am using weblogic11 .
I am working on a JSP page which nearly consists of 4000 lines of code.
I need to debug the file , but weblogic server is not generating the java file for the JSP pages .
Please let me know how can i genertae Java file for the jsp pages ??

JSPs are compiled into servlets automatically and those classes are stored in WEB-INF/classes folder. Servlet engine handles servlets.

Try setting the check boxes in Edit>Preferences>General for the following:
- Make Hand tool select text & images
- Make Hand tool read articles
- Make Hand tool use mouse-wheel zooming
Adjust these as needed but does it make any difference?

get a decompiler and run your class file through it--I'll assume you want the source code back and that you are not trying to recover a missing class file by attempting to use the class file that is missing--if it's missing, then I've not a clue on how to get it back by using what is already missing.
BTW: many of your compilers have source control--if it does, just restore your missing file.

Im not too sure about the Java project. But single normal java files with public static void maain(String [] args) are very simple to execute.
1. Write the java code somewhere lets call this class A.
2. Make a dummy page flow.
3. In the begin action of this pageFlow, call the main method of the A class directly using A.main(null) since main is a static method. your code will work fine.
4. If you have to pass a String[] as parameters. Before calling main, create this String[] and then pass it.
In this way you can make a jsp and take the input from the user also.

Hi Smita,
you just need to create an object of that class,thats it. Then you will be able to execute each and every method.
e.g.
you have developed A.java and B.java, both are in same package.
in implementaion of B.java
class B
            A obj = new A();
             //to access A's methods
             A.method();
            // to access A's variable
            //either
           A.variable= value.
           //or
           A.setvariable() or A.getvariable()
