How to block yahoo messenger and msn messenger

Hi everybody hope u r doing find,
please I want to block user from using yahoo messenger and live messenger; for that I have an ASA 5510 like perimeter equipment, all internet trafic passing through this ASA; in the same time, I also want to block internet traffic what I did by blocking http and https traffic, but I thought that by blocking these two types of traffic, it will also block yahoo messenger and live messenger but it is not the case

Inspect IM supports MSN Messenger 7.0 (Build 7.0.0816), Yahoo Messenger 7.0.0.437.
The option was to use http inspection to drop msn packets using port 80.
We provided this config. for the customer and he confirmed that it works.

Anyone know how to block yahoo's new option of messenger being in the
yahoo mail beta? I know we could just block access to yahoo mail, but
that hasn't been a real problem at this point (according to our logs
anyway) but now that messenger has been added there, it certainly could
become a problem.
Have already blocked webmessenger for yahoo and msn, are there others
now? we have the other general blocks for the clients (port
redirections etc)

Most of the JABBER Server (clients), have more IM client compatibility. Meaning,
the way it was explained (that link), so just like you add a msn adress you can also add a Yahoo nickn.
Youd should search for a Jabber server that handle a yahoo protocol connection too. If so, you can add yahoo too..
anything else or help just add me on iChat.

You could try the one at http://in.docs.yahoo.com/messenger/download/unix.html - should work fine going up the OS, although it depends on whether it checks the OS version before installing. Sometimes a quick tweak of the install script is all that's required to bypass any such test.

I friends I have a Cisco ASA 5520 with an AIM Card (IPS), I have enable the IPS, but It is not working properly because I enable the skype and MSN signatures ( and I put the block inline connection, and TCP reset connection), but all the PCs can login into Skype and MSN, I did the actualkizatiosns, versions, signatures, OS, but the problem continue. If you are sending the traffic to the IPS, and can see hits for the signature "MSN Messenger Activity" and if you only want to block this for certain IP addresses then the solution to your problem is to use 'Event Action Filters' for the existing Signature. By default the signature is disabled so you will have to enable the signature first.

Your service providor can do this for you but a lot of them are not able to do this, i'm on Vodafone & they say they cant....there are 3rd party apps from the Play Store that you can get who will do this but call your providor first

I generated a config.xml called nothemeuiconfig.xml and changed this:

Opened a case with Microsoft, sent them:
the XML's I'm using
the command I used to generate the config.xml
the command I used for scanstate
the log files generated by scanstate
the command I used for loadstate
the log files generated by loadstate
Summary result of the MS case:
After much review & scrutiny, the command line and XML files are syntactically correct and rules are sound.
The articles I referenced in the ticket are indeed old and speak of an older version of USMT, so I can accept the possibility that something may have changed between USMT versions that render those suggested rules & instructions invalid.
Despite using
unconditionalExclude to unconditionally globally exclude objects, something else is trumping that rule, and there’s no way around that.
Even using
MigXmlHelper.DestinationPrioity() won’t help us here because, like above, something else trumps that rule, and there’s no way around that.
The last proposed suggestion is to disable the shmig component, which may or may not break or otherwise adversely affect the backup/restore of other things. (This may be too difficult to detect easily or in initial testing and the uncertainty doesn’t
give us confidence problems won’t arise as a result of this change. Also,
Ned Pyle's post post says NOT to, but then again that's an old post.)
Is this no longer possible or am I'm just doing it wrong?

I'll admit, even before reaching out to MS, the logs clearly show that the themes/backgrounds are all part of the 'Microsoft-Windows-shmig' component but dang it if I want something of substance (read: official documentation) that covers what exactly that
component handles. (I like to know what I'm potentially getting myself into.)
