How to blur out background

How do you blur out the back ground of a photo?

Hi,
Hopefully, you have found the Guided edit mode and can see the Depth of Field in the Photo Effects list.
The simple mode just produces a circle of the image that is in focus. The Advanced mode enables you to pick out an irregular shape section to be kept in focus.
Have a play with it and if you need more help then come back.

  • How to blur the background, CS6 (64 bit)

    I am new to photoshop.
I want to blur the background of some image to use them on by blog
    how to do this quickly

It's more tricky than it sounds.
First of all you need to select the main subject and place that on a separate layer on top. Then you also need to knock out the same from the underlying layer, otherwise it will contribute to the blur.
Second, none of the blur tools in Photoshop give a credible result. It doesn't look blurred as much as viewed through frosted glass. Even the lens blur filter gives this frosted glass effect. A proper lens blur is a very complex optical phenomenon, and to create that illusion in software requires very sophisticated mathematics.
There is a plugin from Alien Skin that is the most convincing I've seen to date, it used to be called Bokeh but is now apparently called Exposure with some added functions. Even so, use very carefully and sparingly; it's no magic bullet. Nothing's worse than easily spotted slapped-on effects.

  • How to blur the background behind the AIR application?

Dear fellow developers and Adobe gurus,
With the BlurFilter, I can easily blur everything inside of
    an AIR application.
But, figure this for a moment: I'll have an application with
some sort of transparent background, which results in all the items
and programs behind the AIR application shining through. Further
imagine that I have some kind of blurred background in my
application from which I want the UI components to stick out nicely
    and sharply.
But here's the suprise: no matter how I blur the contents of
my AIR application, everything behind the app stays sharp and
    crystal clear.
Now my idea of the whole picture is that the Flash Player
somehow "hands through the application" what is behind it when
system chrome is off and transparency mode is on, but it only seems
to "pipe" it through without applying any effects/filters to it.
So, my question is: is there a good reason for this (maybe it
would be a serious performance and/or platform alignment issue), is
there a workaround (like "plugging into" the piped stream of
background information), or will there some first-hand solution in
    the future?
    Best regards
    C.

Thanks a lot for this quick, plausible, and clarifying
    answer.
I feared it was something like that... it leaves me a wee
    disappointed.
I was hoping to be able to create some sleek blur effects in
the background of my application with AIR...
With the fullscreen capabilities of the Flash Player in mind,
I was also hoping it was possible to create some kind of fullscreen
blur-fade effect, with all the other items fading/blurring to black
when turning my app into fullscreen mode. Something like the effect
of the Steam Media Player, if you happen to know that. But since
that is built upon the Windows Media Player, I already feared that
it would be something specific to WMP in combination with the OS.
I also understand that it would be very difficult to achieve
a similar effect with something like screenshots since it is almost
impossible to do that real time.
Is there any faint chance that AIR/the Flash Player might be
able to do something like filtering/affecting what is shown behind
    the app in the future?
    Best regards
    C.

  • How to blur the background, CS2.

I want to know how we create this background effect on trees? Thanks in advance.

The obvious way is to shoot with a large aperture / higher focal length lens and set the depth of field by choosing an appropriate f/stop.
Assuming you already have an image where the background is within the DOF (i.e., everything's in focus), what you want can be accomplished, but  it's not trivial to do, and it gets MUCH easier in Photoshop CS5 and newer because of two new functions (Refine Edge and Content Aware Fill).
Generally speaking, you can do it something like this:
    1.  Select just the subjects you want to remain in focus.
    2.  Make a new layer using the selection as a mask (Refine Edge in the newer Photoshop helps with this).
    3.  Fill the subjects in the lower layer with stuff that looks like the background.
    4.  Lens Blur the lower layer.
That sounds simple, but the devil is in the details.

  • How to blur out someone's face in video?

I am new to video editing and I am using iMovie '06. I have imported a video I shot that I want to upload to my You Tube and my web site, but I need to blur out someone's face for their privacy (I don't have a signed release from them.)
Is there a way to do this? If so, can someone explain it, or point me to a tutorial? I've done some digging online and in this forum, but I can't seem to find the information I need.
    Thanks!

I need to blur out someone's face for their privacy
    easy...
    .. but you need a plug-in, e.g.
    Geethree's *Slick 6*
    http://www.geethree.com/slick/galleries/d_v6.html
it allows keyframing, so, the 'blurr' can move with your 'hidden' object ...

if your background jobs do not start running while you have still enough background workprocesses (do i read your question right?) check the following:
start one of the jobs or any report you know and proceed it in background mode. open a new mode and check in sm66 or sm50/51 whether your programm is running. if yes, you had a temporary problem which is no longer there. if no, do further analysis. check in sm21 if there's errors recorded. check the dev_w* files in AL11, depending on what you found out up to that point, a quick peek in other dev_files cannot hurt. anything significant? search SAPNet for clues ...

  • How to avoid the canvas showing after crop/how to cut out background&side objects

    Hi
Thanks in advance for any help!!!
I've tried in vain for hours to work this out....I am shooting against a white background and I need to chop off the lights/other objects in the shot at the side of the video- how is this best achieved?!
I've trimmed the video but then I'm left with a white or black canvas at the sides....and I can't work out to make the video fill the frame once I've trimmed!
I'm using the white screen to avoid having the key all the videos (just bought the white screen after the green sreen had too many issues with staying inside the greenscreen and having to be so far forward to light the green screen enough - I'm shooting large products!)
I'm new to FCP (I've got FCP X 10) so sorry if this is an obvious answer but I'm banging my head against the wall on this one!
screenshots attached of what I'm talking about!
even giving me the correct terms to google would really be appreciated!! ive tried everything i can think of!
    Thanks

You have to fill it with something. How good are in Photoshop? Take a frame and airbrush and clone the "white" into the surrounding area. Place the Photoshop image on a layer underneath the crop video. Rather than crop it using the mask effect and feather it so it will blend better with the underlying graphic.

  • How to even out background color

I have recently purchased Photoshop Elements 11, and I am having problems trying to make the background and foreground the same colour. I was taking photos of my granchildren in my friends studio and because of the lighting set up the bottom sheet looks grey against the perfect white background. I would like to make it all white but I am having problems with this. Any suggestions please.

    Jim,
I used the Selection brush tool to select the boy, and placed him on a layer (CTRL+J)
I used a levels adjustment layer on the background layer to lighten the entire background, yet retain the folds in the cloth on the floor. Otherwise, he would look as if he were floating in air.
I went back to the layer with the boy, increased the brightness & contrast with an adjustment layer.
Also sharpened the boy with unsharp mask
    Added 3px black stroke

One of the best Track Matte Keying tutorials that I have ever found is Curt Wrigley's. His is built around PrPro and "softening skin tones," but translates well to "hiding identity," etc. It can be found HERE.

    Hi Kevin
I found a YouTube clip explaining how to blur the background with free draw bezier tool and it also said to invert the mask, but it still does not track forward. I really hope there is a solution.

Any suggestions on how to remove an "aura" from around a selection in an image?  I shoot pictures at rodeos.  To make the rider stand out, I create a mask around the rider and then blur the background with Gaussian Blur.  This results in a noticeable blur around the outside of the selection.  I have tried using Feathering as well as other Refine Edge Tools.  The only thing that works is to go around the edge with the Clone Tool.  This is time consuming and not totally successful.  So, my two big questions are: (1) Is there a better (simpler) way to avoid the aura? and (2) If not, is there a way to remove the aura that is simpler??
    Thanks in Advance,

Sorry, what with the long title I had neglected the body of the message and your statement
The only thing that works is to go around the edge with the Clone Tool. This is time consuming and not totally successful.
seems to answer my first question.
Did you do that before or after blurring?
Have you alternatively tried using Content Aware Fill?
