How to boot a Lenovo G580 from disk

Okay! Apologies if I've missed this exact same post somewhere, I Googled for literally days and couldn't find a sausage about how to boot my Lenovo G580 from disk but I've finally, by accident, found the answer!
So, when you go to the boot menu, it'll look something like this:
(Note: this image is taken from Google, I had no way of taking a picture of my own)
Now, if you're like me, you would think that in order to boot the laptop from a disk, you'd need to re-order so that the highlighted line was at the top! Makes sense, right? Well let me tell you, I don't know what the heck that is but it sure ain't the right option to boot from disk. You need to actually make the 'USB CD' option the first one and viola! It works! I did it on a whim because I'd tried everything else, why not right? Turns out I'm the luckiest person in the world and I did a victory lap of the house.

Hi Daniel,
thank you for your reply.
I just checked again if I can boot the RT-system without the floppy disk, from harddisk only - but that doesn't work ("DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK...").
Of course, the boot order in BIOS is set up appropriately to allow booting from harddisk.
And also, the complete software package was already installed on harddisk via MAX through the previously configured network connection.
Actually, it seems there is no boot loader installed on harddisk at RT-systems for desktop-PC's.
The boot loader has to be launched from the floppy boot disk and afterwards, the further boot program is loaded from hard disk.
Is there anyone who can boot a desktop-PC into RT without the floppy disk? And what do I have to set up in order to make it work for our system?
Thanks,
Tom S.

  • How to boot to Windows XP from Mac Desktop

    Hi
I have just installed Lepard/BootCamp/Windows XP and am wondering how to get to Windows from Mac when I'm logged on to Mac. I can access it via System Preferences but end up resetting my start up preferences to Windows in order to reboot from there. When I installed Windows it put a folder on my Mac Desktop that has the windows info -- does anyone know how to quickly reboot to Windows? On the XP side, there is a boot camp icon in system tray that allows you to choose to boot over to Mac from there. But not on the Mac side. Apple Tech Support told me there must be an easier way than going through the Sys Pref startup options but he was unable to find it. Suggested I try here. Any hep appreciated!

I know about the Option key ... when I power on the computer and hold that down, it gives me the option to choose one OS or the other, instead of going to the one I've set in Sys Pref startup ...
My question is when I have the Mac OS running and want to go to Windows ... the only way I seem to be able to do it is go back into Sys Pref and change the startup OS to windows. It will then give me the option to restart and go there right now, which will get me into Windows but at the cost of resetting the preferred startup OS.
On the Windows side there is the option to set the start up OS as well, so maybe that's the key? I wondered why you would need to set it on both sides, or have the ability. Maybe that's it! There has to be a better way to go from Mac to Windows than via the Sys Pref option.

  • How to boot an External SSD from a cd/usb?

Does anyone know how I can boot an external SSD from a cd/usb? i need to update the firmware on the SSD via a cd/usb before i put it in my mac as the update is listed as a destructive update (meaning it will require re installing a back up). But i am unsure how to do this or if it is even possible on a mac? It would save me the hassle of putting the SSD in my mac updating and removing again if it is critical.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks.

You cannot boot from the CD unless it has the OS on it.  For reasons unrelated to this post I just created a bootable external HDD and installed some software on it from a CD.  I think you have to do the same procedure with your firmware.
Attach the external SSD to your MBP.
Power the MBP holding the OPTION key.
    Select the external SSD.
When the system is ready, insert the CD.
    Do your firmware update.
Shut down the MBP and swap the drives.
This is based on the premise that the external HDD has an OS on it.
As far as the 'destructive update' aspect is concerned, I leave that to Clinton to pursue.  I'm still 'old fashioned' and use only HDDs.  Clinton has the SSD knowledge base.
Trust me, both Clinton and I are here to help you as much as we possibly can.  When I said,
"Am I missing something here?", it was not a challenge but a need for more information and/or clarification.  This medium has its limits in communications.
    Ciao.

  • How to boot up a mac from an external disk?

After a recent update, my macpro starts and I see the program charging line starting to fill up, but all of a sudden it stops, I hear the hard disks stop rotating and the computer shuts down. Can somebody help me?
    Thanks a lot.

clone your system so you have bootable backups, and definitely before you make changes to your system.
as to why you use external for booting, you don't say, nor what type drive interface case which may not seem like a reason, or might.
Invest in multiple backup methods like Carbon Copy Cloner along with others.
And by not  saying if you run Mountain or Lion or earlier makes it guess work whether you have a recovery partition but generally it would be on the same hard drive and that doesn't help if it is the drive or the interface.

  • How to boot new/used MacMini from external drive?

Last week I purchased a used MacMini (2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3) that had OS X 10.5.6 pre-installed. I was starting up from my OSX 10.5 install disk so that I could change the password, but the disk drive got noisy and repeatedly restarted until I ejected the disk.
Starting up from my desktop LG super multi drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GE20LU11) results in the same loop, even though the LG was selected as the startup disk.
How do I get the computer to give up on the broken internal drive and use the LG?

Then your DVD may be dirty or defective or boots a version of OS X that isn't compatible with the Mini model you have. For example, if it was initially released with 10.5.6 and you have a 10.5 DVD, then it will not start that computer. Your DVD also may not work if it is not a retail copy of Leopard, but an OEM disc that only has a PPC version of OS X.

  • How do I get newly installed from disk PSE 8 to initialize?

    I just installed PSE 8.
The disk would not start on it's own so I had to launch installation from the drive.
Looking in my Program files, the PSE8 files seem to be there..
When I try to launch PSE8,  it won't start because the photoshop.com gallery site has gone away so it says Error 400.
I have no need or use  for that feature anyway.

    Hi Brett:
I was not even able to get as far as the welcome screen because the internet connection needed to get past the previous screen no longer exists hence it would err out with
    Internet troubleshooting suggestions.
    That did the trick.
Both shortcuts bring up the welcome screen but the sign in feature is now disabled.
The Organizer shortcut will launch both the Editor and the Organizer.
I would much prefer that Adobe had made a Win 7 Premium upgrade for Photodeluxe 4.0 which I have used for many many years.
For what I do..Using Elements is like hunting a bumblebee with a 12 gauge shotgun and it takes 3 times as long to
for me to do it compared with Photodeluxe. Had I known that Win 7 Pro had an XP feature I would have purchased that instead
of Premium and saved myself a lot of misery.
Thank you very much for the link to the info.
    Best regards

  • Batch List: How to capture clips inc info, from disk instead of tape

We have a client's edit log on Excel, including reel no, in/out, scene, description, log note etc. Usually we import this batch list to FCP, then batch capture from DVCAM tapes, so all clips have all their info - great.
In this case, the material is already digitised and the client has logged from DVDs burned with timecode from the digitised material being placed in FCP sequencecs with timecode generator filter.
Is there a way to 'batch capture' clips from the digitised material, so that we keep all the client logging info, as we would if we were capturing from tape?

Shane has got it right - we want to automatically build a sequence using that batch list. Or somehow have FCP make new clips or subclips from already captured footage... so if your verdict is right Shane, looks like we may have to go the manual route...
although - just occurred to me - for each clip, I could go to the digitised source sequence, duplicate it, open copy in timeline, enter clip's in and out tc in the viewer - and that will give me a copy of each clip as a sequence - rename that sequence as per the clip, and we're done.
But it's still of course more laborious than batch capture from tape; this is a concern going forward as we are switching to XDCAM EX, so of course the route to enable this client-edit-logging ( http://www.creationvideo.co.uk/info/timecode/ ) that we've always offered clients is no longer valid as the material is already online....
    Any suggestions still welcome!

  • HOW do u load sample programs from disk

You would often save them in:
    /Users/J/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments
You can copy the folder. See the manual for the exact directory... Or you can use Project Manager and other integrated functions. Copying as you've described is pretty easy though.

  • How do I install software from disk on Macbook Air?

I have an external CD player but the Macbook Air doesn't seem to recognise it. So how do I get my software from disk onto my Macbook?

I did not get the "This document is not recognised do you want to choose an application to open it with" error message.  It's just that it is not recognizing any content at all on the CD in Finder.  I have used this external CD drive before with this Macbook.  I also tried to open the docs through Word and it again showed that a CD was in "Devices" as a "Remote Disc" but does not recognize any of the docs on the CD.

    2) How to SMI Label/Format a disk while OS Installation in Solaris 11.1?
As we know that ZFS is the default filesystem in Solaris 11.
We have seen in the Oracle documentation that for rpool below are recommended:
    - A disk that is intended for a ZFS root pool must be created with an SMI label, not an EFI label.
    - Create root pools with slices by using the s* identifier.
    - ZFS applies an EFI label when you create a storage pool with whole disks.
    - In general, you should create a disk slice with the bulk of disk space in slice 0.
I have seen the solution that using format -e, we change the labelling but all the data will be lost, whats the way to apply a SMI Label/Format on a rpool disks while OS Installation itself.
Please provide me the steps to SMI Label a disk while installaing Solaris 11.1 OS.

Oracle recommends below things on rpool: (thats reason wanted to apply SMI Label)

  • How to remove dust from inside a Lenovo G580?

    Hi....
I have a Lenovo G580 for more than a year now... got it from my company as a gift, its warranty has ended... it worked superbly for a year, it still does but my biggest concern is that now it always stays 60 - 65 Degree C hot in idle conditions... using any heavy graphics application, it gets shut down automatically to prevent any further damage from overheating... Reason for that is the dust built up in it... I don't have a blower or cool hair dryer to use... the only way I think practicable is opening it's all screws and manually removing all the dust with the help of a brush or may be using a hot-air hair dryer (which I have) from far above... can someone guide me how to get rid of this dust with minimum disassembly possible...? any precautions also plz... I have the hardware maintenance manual with me but don't wanna try opening the lappy before knowing someone else's experience about it...
    Thanks....

I would suggest buying a blow dryer, because you should do cleaning at regular intervals like once in every 6 months. You can refer to the user and maintenance manual for easy disassembly.
    Good Luck!

  • Help please: how to boot from clone/external hard drive because "disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"?

    MBP Retina 15" MID 2014 2.5Ghz
    OS X Yosemite 10.10
I have a external HDD and want to erase and restore my laptop so I can install windows via Bootcamp Assistant but I don't know how to boot from a clone to fix the issue and am not sure if when I erase and restore I will still have Yosemite 10.10? I have no way to reinstall the OS if I lose it. An average user friendly guide would be greatly appreciated please

I do not think you have to erase your MacBook's disk in order to install Windows. First of all you can try a few things before formatting the disk.
The first thing you should do is to check that your MacBook Pro's drive is OK with Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). After opening it, choose "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar and press "Verify Disk". If it gives you any error, you will have to boot your Mac in OS X Recovery (press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up) to repair Macintosh HD (the steps are the same but pressing "Repair Disk" instead of "Verify Disk").
After you have repaired the drive, boot up in OS X and try partitioning the drive again with Boot Camp Assistant. If it does not work, you will have to format the drive and reinstall OS X, but I will give you these steps only if this does not work.
